To AFK or not to AFK..........

  • There have been many suggestions on how to deal with an afk player and suggestions for them. Mostly people ask for a kick button. Some suggest button input while in brig. Honestly you should bring them with a random button input at random intervals when they been in the brig too long. This is because some of the players have auto button use. Which means the program automatically sends signals to the game as if buttons are being pushed or the rubber band their controller to keep the input. So a random button input at random intervals after the player was brig for x amount of time would force the player to be present at all times turning this afk player into a toxic player.

Now I do understand people have things they have to deal with outside of the game so this suggestion is for those that been briged.

The next suggestion is for those that need to tend to real life matters like their kids or kids having to go eat. On several occasions I had a crewmate go before we could turn in because they would have been afk far to long. Often we allowed them to go afk so they can get rewarded as well. I'm suggesting a "take a break" button for players that half to go afk. This would make the players character become an NPC controlled character while the players afk. This allows some help instead of a dead weight crewmate just sitting there. The idle character would only repair the ship and heal itself but it's better than them just sitting there. While they are idle there name will show they are idle with (Idle) right before there name to identify so afk players can't abuse it as much.

  • I like the part about the legit AFK players and them having an option to have their character become a basic NPC when on the ship, I am sure that this can be done especially that they have coded the functions to the skeletons for the ships.

In the case of the other types of players that abuse the system, this is why you see them go right to the ferry of the damned and lay down to block the names from showing at the front of it and it makes it harder for the rest of us to report them when they do this until someone has joined on them and catches whom it is from that side.

They should have added a kick function on the ferry for people that spent to much time there. And even if they are in the ferry they are still considered to be in the brig. As well as can be found from crew management.

But between the ferry kick system and random intervals button input it should make afk players regret trying to do it. Because they will be forced to pay attention to the game instead of doing or going somewhere else.

  • @kin-h4chi Are you having problems with people afk in open crew, closed crew, or a mix of both? As for the ferry, I have a couple of friends go there often to propose an alliance.

  • @br0crastinat0r

I usually don't have a problem. And the players that go afk aren't trying for free loot. But they do need to go afk to handle personal matters so why be down a crew member if they can be of use as idle players.

But I always see and hear complaints about people who join and just go afk so the random input after being in brig for too long would sort out afk players

  • @kin-h4chi I love that idea mate
