Defend the forts from enemies! Light the beacon and challenge other pirates to take your treasure!

  • Hello everyone, today I'd like to present to you what I think would be an interesting addition to the game, combining both PVP and PVE in a new activity using already implemented mechanics in the game (with some addtions of course).

In this activity you fight against other crews for the control of a fort, the crew who defended it successfully against skeletons and pirates alike will get access to the vault and its treasure!

My idea is to use once again the cloud system, for this activity I think two crossed bones would fit nicely, or maybe a castle tower or a shield? So you head to the fort, the first crew to get there gets to be the defender, to simplify the activity and not make it a Skull Fort 2.0 I think the fort should be empty, no skeletons. The defenders start to prepare their defenses, placing traps like hidden gunpowder barrels, snakes, ambushes in the bushes, ecc...
Now, once ready you can light a beacon on the top of the main tower (using the Festival's mechanic), a timer starts (this could be represented as a clock with a skull on top of the vault door) and the cloud changes color, maybe a menacing red as to signal other crews that the fort is now being occupied. Others may choose to attack the fort and occupy it themselves, to do so they'd have to light the beacon again.

    (beacon? brazier?)

When the timer reaches its end the vault door opens, revealing its riches. From then it proceeds like a regular Skull Fort. Meaning you run (sail) for your life to the closest outpost then get ambushed and get all your treasure stolen from you, as usual.

Now, some of you might be wondering: "BUT OfficerRavioli! What if no one shows up to attack? Wouldn't that be extremely boring for the defenders??"
Well, they added skeleton ships for a reason didn't they? In addition to other crews, waves of skeleton ships would start to rise from the sea around the fort, firing on the island. Then skeletons would spawn on the shore and attack the defenders. This could also be seen as an advantage as the skeleton would also attack other crews trying to take the fort, and also could provide as a nice source of gunpowder barrels.

OK, the end. As a final note I would like to say that this activity should be restricted to certain forts, as some of them are too wide open and hard to defend, but most of the currently inactive ones are perfect for the task. These are far more complex in structure (probably the reason why they are inactive) and provide sufficient cover from incoming cannon fire.

Thanks for reading, hope you like my idea.

  • I like the idea of using the forts for something other than the usual skull fort, especially since half the ones on the map serve no purpose other than for stocking up.
Meg should circle round the island too chomping into any ships that get too close once the beacon is lit.
What would happen though if all pirates and ships were annihilated? Would the timer reset or would it be a race back to the fort?

  • @lottyloo91 The beacon would have to be lighted again, I'm not sure that the timer should restart though, like when the same happens with Skull Forts and the waves don't get reset.

  • That sounds really fun, though it would definitely be a challenge for Sloop players... Maybe there could be a single item to keep skeletons from attacking one player in a certain radius? And trying to take it away from the island makes it explode.
It could also be a strategy for oncoming players to find this item and steal/destroy it.

  • @nefnoj To be honest it's ok that solo sloopers would have a harder time than bigger crews, it works the same for regular skull forts, skeleton ships, ecc... But, as for all these activities, people would get good at it, find exploits, the "perfect spot" or tecnique, YouTube videos "How to defend the fort as a solo sloop!" and stuff like that. Players always find a way.
