Loot Weight: Effect on the ship.

  • I saw another thread mention stacking (limited amount of space) in a ship. But, I wonder, should the game change so that if you are carrying more loot, the ship is heavier, and thus it would sit lower in the ocean? This would effect Galleons so they would need to patch up the second level if they have say, 20 or more loot items on board.

It would tell other players when a ship is hauling a big load, and also it would give a bit more risk to carrying more loot at a time since ships would have to keep an eye on both the lower and middle decks.

I've heard this mentioned a few times but the issue is that it would greatly unbalance the game. If you have loot YOU are the one who has everything to lose. If you are weighed down you are at a disadvantage to any fresh spawn wanting to take it from you. This also causes a split making not all players and ships equal. They really can't add something that punishes you for playing the game and doing well at it. All it would take is even the most unskilled ship catching up on you to harass your ship even if they don't sink you you are still at a disadvantage. Personally I am agaisnt the idea because I like to think about any decision of the underdog.

I had suggested something similar in a post about a month after launch. And it would make the ship slower as well, as more displacement means more friction against the water. Upvoted!

Yeah I thought about that as well, but I am not suggesting that the ship gets slower. Just that it is more risky to be hauling a big load. It would basically just make it easier to sink Galleons and give purpose to shooting the second level of the Gally

  • @enginefear Good idea. I think it would be something to note and do to help de-incentivizing crews carrying too much loot if hoarding loot becomes an issue and too easy to do.

What we need to do however is try to get people to carry more loot while also making sloops less desirable to be attacked.

I would much prefer them to remove the clipping that takes immersion out of the game, then doing a very subtle notification to pvpers that this particular ship is loaded as a way to balance out hoarding. This is because changing water lines doesn't encourage galleons to hold more items then a sloop.

In my opinion, the cargo limit should be tied to an incentive to hoard items on your boat. My main suggestion is to add value to an item the farther it travels. This give you an advantage if you want to be a hoarder because you'll have more space to be able to hold more goods, thus your profit increases.

With right now probably the avg number of items on a boat is probably around 3-5 items.. we aren't getting anywhere close to capacity for even a sloop, let alone a galleon.
