Why not make ships drop Barrels of Bananas, Cannonballs and Planks when sank?

  • When my crew and I fought a galleon and sunk it, we did not have enough resources to carry on with our voyage and had to scuttle ship to regain bananas, planks, and cannonballs. When scuttling, an Idea popped up into my head; Why not make the sunken ship "drop" or spawn barrels of resources like the ones you find roaming around randomly?

It would also help while doing a skullfort raid and defending your sloop or galleon against other players. When a ship sinks and that ship had loot in it, the loot floats to the top, they could make the barrels behave like that.

I consider that this small but useful feature would be a great addition to Sea of Thieves because it would stop the hassle of scuttling ship various times just to get resources and it would add a more rational reason to engage in PVP combat. This could also be implemented into the skeleton crew ships in the upcoming update.

  • @omardelpino there is already a thread for this
And by the way, it is already spawning barrels near the sunken ships...not immediatly but in a 1-2 minutes

  • @schwammlgott Well in my experience I have not seen barrels spawn when I sink ships, maybe its a broken feature? Also, can you link me the thread?

  • I have seen sometimes in the last patch that barrels don't spawn. It has happened to me sabotaging a ship.

  • @omardelpino couldn't find it...search for yourself

I'll have to keep an eye out for this to see if it's true. I think it's a definite maybe but the spawn point is not where the loot pops up. Perhaps near where a ship sunk. I can recall seeing barrels in the vicinity of a recently sunk ship, but no 1 to 1 correlation as far as I've observed.

  • @aliasmask I didn't know that either, even didn't believe the guy who told me in the other thread, but than I looked closer and almost every time a ship sunk a bunch of supplies appeared near it

  • They do already wait a few minutes after sinking a ship.
