Rapiers, Daggers, Boarding Axes, and Grenades

    Rapiers: Another sword option would be add some variety to melee combat and I nominate the Rapier. They can be a fast attack stabbing option but it can’t block heavier weapons. Blocking other rapiers can result in fencing sessions between other pirates.

    Daggers: Pirates could duel wield daggers and pistols allowing for quick melee after firing. Pirates should also be allowed to wield a dagger while carrying skulls or trinkets.

    Boarding Axes: Why this needs added really doesn’t need any explanation besides historical accuracy. Boarding Axes should be sold in quantities of 5 and are meant for throwing but melee should always be the first option.

    Grenadoes (aka The Smoke Pot): Small throwable explosives with multiple varieties (ie: explosive, incendiary, smoke to obscure vision, etc). Please please please

    Maybe if the goal is to poke people, unless you have proof I call bs. Not saying being stabbed is no big deal but I’m pretty sure it’s still who’s holding the sword that matters. My moneys on a viking with a long sword over a guy with a rapier and a puffy wig any day.

    @commandrew I can’t argue the guys opinion and he clearly knows what he’s talking about, but my point is still that it’s less about the sword itself and more about how it’s used. I could post a video about how katanas are the best or that Ulfberht viking steel was ahead of its time, it’s all just preference to some degree, as well as training, skill and inherent physical advantages.

    I guess in a one on one duel without shields a rapier would be better than most swords because of the range and size advantage.

    On the topic of SoT I would prefer other new weapons before sword variations, such as boarding axes or daggers.

    I like the ideas of grenades but it shouldn't be infinite like ammo is. I would honestly be okay with paying like 250-500 gold for them with a Max holding capacity of 1.

    I also want to see dynamite. Similar to a powder barrel but has a ten second fuse. The fuse could be cut with a sword or throw water on it to put it out. Don't think you should be able to shoot it either. If defused properly, it should disappear. Or if you couldn't defuse it with those options maybe make it so it has to be thrown overboard after an enemy has lit the fuse. Ten seconds to get it off your ship.

    Boarding Axes and Boarding Pikes (possibly with harpoon and trident skins) are my votes for rounding out the Melee weapon arsenal. Then we would have a melee analogue for all three firearms (close, mid, and ranged). Though I feel melee combat needs a bit of a rework before then; it's a little clunky.

    As for Grenades, they (also known as Powder Flasks) could be a fun addition. As opposed to being able to buy them (which would constitute a huge balance issue), I would prefer they be discoverable around the world, like Gunpowder Barrels. The explosion damage, of course, would be negligible against ships, but it could have the advantage of being thrown at a group of enemies for significant anti-personnel damage.
