Underwater weapons

  • Has this been entertained already?

I think being underwater should protect you from gun fire that’s shot into the water, if not 100%, at least partially.

Canon fire would still be deadly if hit under the water.

While underwater, guns should be unusable, or have a high drop off rate if they can be used. Then we have a perfect opportunity to introduce a speargun. It could be used for offense, or hunting/fishing as part of a future update.

I just think having some differences to account for between above and below water combat would add to the strategy, and coordination of crews

I felt the same way. It would be better if flintlock weapons weren't usable underwater and had to rely on spear guns for range and swords for up close. Although, I kind of doubt Rare would change it at this point. Unless most players felt the same, but I doubt we'll have majority.

Also, I would only fully support it if the speargun didn't take up a weapon slot and was automatically equipped when underwater...but that's just me.

Maybe so, but it sure would be a nice way to "stir things up" even for those who have been playing a lot, and provide everyone with a new learning curve and we'd see new strategies formed.

  • I agree. As far as physics go, water is non-compressible. Even a modern .50 cal sniper round won't go more than 8-10 feet into water without completely slowing down to a non-dangerous speed. Not to mention flintlock weapons wouldn't fire if the air was too humid, let alone being submerged in water

Imagine if in storms or after swimming your gun could malfunction and would need to be reloaded or just forgotten for the moment to use a melee weapon in the heat of battle. I would love that and it would make swords more viable, take the stun lock off of them and it would be balanced imo.

This would also nerf ladder boarding as the main means of ship combat, and likely have other positive affects when it comes to pvp encounters by making small arms not take precedent over other forms so much,

  • i think that players should just simply not be able to shoot so long as their head is underwater. that away, they could reload and fire from the water's surface, but they need to be exposed in order to do so.

personally, a benefit that i would look forward to with these changes is that sharks would be way more threatening than they are now, and it would require either patience or teamwork in order to avoid them.
