Tried playing solo

  • There is no use of having solo mode. Its impossible, i've seen the threads about playing solo being hard. I played some in the beginning, and thought it was fun and not to hard.
But now, I get what you're saying.
If frustration is something you're dreaming bout, then it can be something for you.
And NO it has nothing to do about "scouting the surroundings" or "Oooh you have to play careful and play smart, BS"

The solo experience has become something ill never turn back to again.
Solution, make servers that only allow solo players to join.
and keep gallions and 2 player sloops in another server.

  • Solo was nice in the first few days, now it's just annoying.

  • I still do solo all the time. Usually make more rep and gold when I do also....idk.

  • I find solo a ton more enjoyable than trying to find a random crew online just to then sail around attacking ships while they are the most uncoordinated crew ever and just end up sinking, to then do it all over again...

Sounds like someone got their stuff stolen by 2 man sloop or galleon :)

  • @fenrirsfury Absolutely my view as well. Every couple of days I try match making into a random galleon crew. 10 minutes later I'm back to solo slooping.

  • @tuukkatl Well yes. And all of them happened when i was carrying the last treasure to the boat.
It was x 8 marked treasure maps.
and i was scouting surroundings as often as i could.

Losing your treasure is part of the game ;) Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Don't let it stop you from trying ;)

  • TBH I play solo all the time, and quite enjoy it, yeah I get chased from time to time, but I can out maneuver a galleon around islands rocks and using your sails.. Quite fun to watch a galleon keep up with me. However, a 2 man sloop is a little harder.. But if you know how, line your sloop up the best you can straight. Preferably with the wind. Jump off the front of your sloop trying to keep the other sloop seeing you jump. Swim under your sloop and attempt to board thier boat.. |Either try and kill them or just simply drop their anchor.. After a few times of that, they'll usually leave you alone.

  • Solo is pretty much my standard. I have never even played on a galleon. I love it but that's just me. And I am not one of these epicly grand soloers who take on galleons for breakfast. I live a sheltered existence avoiding all other ships.

With the removal of "scouting the surroundings" or "Oooh you have to play careful and play smart, BS" I don't really know what to say. Without those strategies I am either the luckiest person to ever play Sea of Thieves or you and other's who have shared your experiences are the unluckiest. Under this framework I don't question you so much as I question why life has decided to be so kind to me in this of all video games.

I stopped reading there. I did this all by myself, I've been sunk maybe three times by other people since launch and not robbed once. You're doing things horribly wrong if you think it's even remotely near impossible, hell it's not even very difficult; it's just time consuming.

  • @kaptenfisk Posts like this make me feel like a god. I can solo successfully.

  • @nyadc85
This exactly. I'm rounding up on 30 on all factions and the only time I have played with others is 2 man slooping with a friend a friday night here and there. It is far from impossible.

  • I don't understand the people who have such a hard time with solo. It's more of a challenge for sure but that is why most of us who mostly play solo do it. The challenge is really not even that difficult if done correctly. If there were just solo servers that would elimante pretty much all risk for those of us who are already really good at it and that would not be as fun.

Get some friends together, or make some new ones and duo or get on a galleon. I have made quite a few new Xbox live pals thanks to SoT's.

Solo just doesn't sound like it's for you.

  • @kaptenfisk Have to disagree with you I'm afraid. I solo a lot and have always made steady progress. Sometimes I get in to scrapes, and sometimes I lose those scrapes. For the most part though I avoid conflict using just that "BS" you mention.

Solo is hard, it's suppose to be hard, but it's also rewarding in its own way.

  • Really not impossible. I'm currently 34/35/34 and I got there by playing solo.
In all this time, my ship sank only 2 times to other players (the rest is my fault :D).

It has everything to do with being aware of your surroundings. I ran away from others, sank ships and completed a skull fort while fighting others as well.
I'm really not an amazing player, I just play it smart.

Gotta say though, people really exeggerate all the time. What happend to learning from your mistakes and improving? It feels like everyone is complaining on the forums the moment they are having a bit of trouble.

  • I sail solo because I can't stand millennials and seeing as how the majority of gamers are from that generation I'd rather bang my head against my boat than group with one.

  • @cronan73 why don't you try talking to some of these "horrible millennials" in a party. That's rather hateful of you.

Is that a map with 8 X's, or 8 maps?

Either way, 8 chests on board is pushing it for solo play. If it was 8 maps, you should definitely be stopping off at outposts every two chests or so.

And even if it was all on one island, I still might break it up into two or three trips. Scouting is important, but just as important is efficiency and speed.

If you have loot on board, hanging out for too long on the same island is not a good idea. Also, with fewer chests you can actually take them off and hide them ashore to try and fool any pirates that happen by.

Also, as a solo slooper, there's the unfortunate truth that sometimes a play session just doesn't come together. The majority of my sessions are just fine, but it's not uncommon for bad luck to kind of screw me over.

If you have the choice, I would recommend playing solo earlier or later in the day. Sometime out of the peak play times. It'll be a bit easier and can help you ease into it a little more smoothly.

  • @dusk-killaz no need buddy I talk to them in the real world. No need going through that agony in my recreation time.

  • @cronan73 Alright then. Enjoy your isolation from a fresh perspective. Not all of us are what you think. With each generation the amount of stupid increases significantly, with that said half of my generation has shown an unprecedented amount of stupidity. You get good with bad as well.
Also I am not you buddy, pal.

Quite the contrary. In an attempt to enlighten you and any others out there feast your eyes on this video. 100% solo, only sword:

It's all a game of weighing and assessing risk vs. reward and time, if I have five Seafarer's chests on board I'm not going to worry about taking on another quest loop, if I lose those then it's kind of whatever. But if I've got like a Villainous Skull, two Captain's Chests, a few Marauder's and some other stuff I am going to dump that off before continuing.

You have to weigh the value of what you have on board, the risk of leaving that stuff on board to get something else and how much time and energy it would take to regain that value in the event you lost it.

  • @dusk-killaz I'll stop because there's no chance of me getting the last word. Take care

    lol me too.

OP, the solo sloop life just isnt for everyone. If its not for you its not for you, find a good galleon crew and stick to that.

Some solo sloopers are crazy though lol. Did a skull fort with my galleon crew last night and this lone solo slooper was trying so hard to steal our treasure. I almost felt bad when I boarded his sloop, killed him and sailed his ship into rocks, he was trying so hard.

Sounds super weird. I have been playing solo since release and still am. Nothing frustrating or difficult here. 38/39/27

  • @combatxkitty
I see this all the time. Whats funny is the solo guy could have rolled up and said: hey guys ill give ya a hand if i can get a treasure or 2. And alot of crews would have said sure

  • @nwo-azcrack Oh yeah we totally would have, we are such friendly pirates. We saw him sail by us on way to the fort and then when we were heading to the nearest outpost there he was, clearly waiting for us. We decided to head to plunder and he was chasing us down with all his mite. Thats when I had enough and killed him. Oh he came back though lol. We saw him sailing past plunder while we were selling, totally missing us. After we sold our stuff we see him coming over to us he tried to kill us and sink our ship lol. He may have failed but he gets an A for effort.

  • @cronan73 Enjoy your small world.

  • @dusk-killaz and see I had to post showing how it was absolutely impossible for you to let me get the last word in. In my day that was called talking back and it got you an a*s beating. Your generation was told hey that's wrong don't be bad, now go finish what you were doing. Sad part is my generation is to blame for raising you that way. Not your fault pal.

Consistent bad solo player in disguise. Nice try. You would've gotten away with it too... 😂

  • Um, my mrs plays solo and has been sunk once /shrug

  • I made a thread myself on how playing solo had become very hard, for me, since the last update, i was seemingly always spawning in very close proximity to other ships and it turned out that those ships were NEVER friendly on the seas. I was struggling to get anything at all done. I had thought that perhaps Rare had begun to add extra players per server of something. But after reading many other people post on it about how they have been playing solo still and not encountering too many ships, i come to the conclusion that i had just been getting some real bad luck for a few days. So i went back to some solo play. First log in, i gathered some supplies from the outpost and sailed for less than 1 min, and was attacked by a player i just didn't see coming. It was dark and stormy, so perhaps i was not looking hard enough, anyway. Left game, restarted and joined new server. Then i was back to normal, i did see many other ships in the distance, and it was always possible to keep my distance to them. My faith was restored. It is possible to play solo! And complete some quest and cash them in. Yes, it is harder. But doable.
So my advice to you is. Leave the game and rejoin again if you are having bad luck on a server. Good luck out there.

No , it's not impossible. There's plenty of solo players that show you are factually wrong.

Actual solution ? You know it folks........

  • The only thing that is almost always difficult solo is the OoS voyages.
Just try and keep other ships at the horizon.
Hide treasure before sailing off an island.
Always have one or two gunpowder barrels.
Stay away from storms and keep your lanterns off.
If you still get sunk over and over I don't know what to tell you, extreme bad luck?
Find good crews on the hubs and groups maybe, the game wasn't made to constantly play solo, even though it's is doable and fun for some people, including myself.
