So yeah... Was sailing along near keel haul fort and ran aground on nothing but ocean... Clear deep water all around, but I got a good 4 holes in my sloop from hitting nothing...

@tundra-793 It wasnt 20 yards from some barrels I was looting. I was in the water and couldnt see the bottom.
@xrekkoffx If you'd be so kind as to indulge me; When the ship began taking damage, did you immediately repair, whilst letting the ship sail?
Or did you correct course before beginning repairs?I don't have the map memorized, but I do know that there's several shallow islands around Keel Haul Fort, and at least 1 uncharted group of islands near there as well.

Not saying it wasn't some kind of glitch, but the Sea of Thieves can play tricks on you.I watched my ship lurch and bounce from the impact, looked over the bow and sides, then rage quit. :P I was about 12 Gally lengths from the fort at that time.

I know that there's an unmarked island/atoll with some really shallow reefs south of that particular fort, as well as shallow islands to the north, and north east.
Along with several large rock formations surrounding the fort.If you rage quit the second you started taking damage and didn't note your exact position, we might never be able to solve this nautical mystery.

That actually could be. There was a Gally up front of me a ways off. I was not aware they had collision though?
Ahoy mate, if you suspect it was a bug then please raise a ticket via Support with plenty of details.
Is it possible the gally crew detonated an explosive barrel under your ship?
Have you been able to replicate the incident? (bit hard I know on a random patch of sea)There are a number of uncharted reefs and islands, which we're not always made aware of in patch notes and left to discover for ourselves.
I'm unsure whether mermaids have collision, to be fair.

Ray could be right! I have taken damage when 'hitting' an enemies mermaid whilst in my sloop! So pretty certain you take damage from them. Maybe they had left someone at the fort or maybe someone tried to board you making the mermaid appear.

Sometimes if you hit the crest of a wave and fall straight down into the next one the impact counts and it smashes a hole in the ship.
As opposed to riding alongside the edge of the wave.Not sure what any of the nautical terms would be for this so apologies IRL sailors!

I know that feeling. Being ex-navy I have been in some rough seas, and sometimes our ship would rise up on the peak of a large wave and "fall" down into the trough, just as another wave was rising up. The noise of the ship crashing up into that rising wave would make a heck of a thud on the hull of the ship. It was quite scary the first time I experienced it.
