I found the horror element to this game

  • This game could be called a lot of things but scary is a stretch. Yet my last play was nothing but horrific to say the least.

I was doing a merchant voyage and it had me get four snakes. This was something I was waiting to test!

I always thought it could be a good strategy to keep a bunch of snakes in my hold while I play solo as it would make a natural defense against some a boarder.

So I went and put my snakes about in my hold, spreading them out to make sure a foe couldn't skirt them.

Now I felt pretty good about going and getting more loot, I would play music to get my look into my hold and be on my way.

As I was letting the wind take me where ever it wanted I ended up at a island that unfortunately had skeleton cannons on it.... in fact all over it.

As I got close the cannon beat on my ship blowing holes in the hold making me have to abandon the helm and subject myself to the horror that I created to same myself and my ship.

I had turned off all the lights in the hold to make boarders have a harder time seeing what was going on down there. So I didn't have time to turn them back on.

I raced down under into the knee deep water in the nearly pitch blackness desperately looking for the holes... the snakes struck.

I was being bit all over and blinded even more, not being able to see and now seeing the water nearly over my head I just had to keep working as I was bit over and over in the darkness. The ship slammed into the island and made more holes and I had to fix those as well.

I crushed banana after banana into my face hole to try and stem the poison but it was a balance between that and fixing the ship.

When it was all said and done I had nearly sunk but saved my ship and even the ungrateful snakes. But it was by far the most horrific thing I have had to do in this game thus far.

  • @lucrativedoor8 Black magic, them snakes be....Aye, black magic indeed.

  • Lol now this is what i call " making your own adventure"

  • Might be a good strategy for when you're exploring a large island. Otherwise not worth the risk. And those suckers spit through solid lumber! Mine always go on the bowsprit, or as I like to call it, The Snakeplank. B*****s can't spit at ya' from there!

  • @nwo-azcrack haha it was the most stressful moment I have had in this game so far!

  • @captain-arcanic that's a good idea but as I enjoy the merchant voyage (not pigs) I found one problem with keeping your animals on deck. If you are attacked and they are hit with cannon fire it kills them. I lost a whole lot of chicken that way sadly.

  • It's also "fun" when a snake spits at you while fighting 8 skeletons during the night...

  • @boshko-com lol! such FUN

  • @lucrativedoor8 Ya i use the snakes aswell for an defence from barders. Well for a sloop i seen it wasnt a good idea because of that reason but i do use it on galleons all the time. I put one on the other side of cpts qaurters door and below each steps down th the brig and i hide chest guarded by snakes. And it works it saved me and my crew from hurt survivors that tried blowing our ship with barrels. snakes saved me.

  • This has just become my favorite story on this forum so far haha, as I can relate and share your horror. I honestly get into character in the game sometimes when solo, which might be a social issue but what ever, but I would have drank at least a cup of Grog before going down there to add to the insanity haha. What a terrifying story! FYI I keep every snake I catch in the crows nest, they are annoying and not an effective defense mechanism like I too once thought.

Thank you for posting, this was a fantastic read haha!

  • I hear if you keep enough chickens on deck the sound will drive boarders crazy.

  • Crazy! Glad you were able to save your ship from being sunk!

  • @lucrativedoor8 Lol! xD

  • @lucrativedoor8 lol great story!

I had 7 last night on deck, and honestly started to consider eating one in front of the others to make them be quiet...

They should totally make that a thing. Death of one in proximity to the others shuts them all up for 5 minutes. LOL.

And listening to the anguished groans of a hungry pig makes random pirates randomly jump off the ship.

  • @captain-arcanic oh man, do not get me started on pigs. I know this post is about snakes, but, pigs, suck.

  • I really want to be able to let them go on the ship too.
RARE, please give us an open crate/coop/basket option. We shouldn't have to kill them to get them out.

OMG, can you imagine the SoTPETA ship? How rad would that be?

Or just sneaking onto someone's ship and letting a bunch of animals go, and them with no crates and cages to recapture them!

...I think I just answered the question why RARE doesn't allow this. But it would be awesome.

  • @captain-arcanic could you imagine the chaos of letting a grip of pigs go on another ship? Especially if the pigs could get into their banana supply.

You just made me realize the next animal needed in game! Monkeys!!! They could escape their cage after capture and steal resources and run away!!! You have to feed pigs, but you have to “entertain” monkeys with music when they whine or they get loose!
