Make mermaids take longer to appear...

  • So today I ran into an exploit... We were chasing a ship and they were using a good tactic of sending one man overboard to try and board us and drop our anchor. Completely valid tactic and im not against that at all.

But this same person would do it over and over and over... If he missed his mark? He just zapped back on a mermaid and tried again. So my idea is simple, make the mermaid spawn slower, im thinking make it the same time as a death respawn. It makes the the strategy risky while at the same time preventing the sort of abuse that is currently happening with it.

Thoughts? Again, not against people jumping over and trying to board, just the mermaid zapping abuse with no negative effects at all.

Random additive thought: This would actually also buff people trying to board ships. You wouldnt have the Mermaid popping up and giving your position away. Just something I thought of.

  • Currently a mermaid spawns if your ship moves about 200-300 meters away from you, which imo isn't the best idea. There needs to be some type of time limit as well. Maybe something like 20-30 seconds.

Regardless, this community really against the idea of chasing other players. So this example isn't the best.

The only instance where this would help is when people shoot themselves from a cannon, miss, but then just catch a mermaid at the other side. As long as you shoot yourself far enough, you can just catch a mermaid.

Either way, I like being able to shoot myself out of a cannon with no penalty :P

  • I definitely wouldn't mind a time limit added to mermaids, on top of the distance limit (or in place of it).

I mean, to be fair, who doesnt like to shoot themselves out of cannon now and then? :P

  • @xrekkoffx mermaid tax! 500 gold for their services or your ship has to stop and pick you up?

  • Until they fix lagging off your ship id say it need to be quicker

  • @danqrl Eh... Not a fan of gold tax of any kind... Would ruin the ability to be derpy. But if it took a while to get back to the ship, that could be cause enough to stop for someone. :)

  • @xrekkoffx yeh I wasn't serious it's ok 😃 Every one will be so rich in the future that a charge wouldn't matter. Elite dangerous is like that, costs you money when you die but most people have so much money nobody cares. I genuinely support your point though there should be some sort of downside to constantly leaping off your ship time after time after time.
