Let me bury my own treasure...

  • Small items of treasure that can't be sold until I have a full chest - these could be drops from Skele's, found in locations etc. I amass them but have to store them somewhere until I can trade them in to a merchant. So I bury my own treasure, the location to which gets marked on my ships map. Steal a ship to go off and find someone else's stash of loot. (See stealing ships idea).

  • Was going to make this suggestion at least in the sense of being able to bury your own treasure. Would be another great way to combat being chased down as a solo player. Could also be expanded to add in a way for players to create treasure maps (i know, big undertaking I am sure) and add player generated mini-games of a sort.

  • I think it should have you X marks the spot maps (one for each island that you hide stuff on) It could even be denoted with a diferent icon like 'message in the bottle' maps. This would also limit the amount of treasure we can hide and still makes it all session based as the map will be lost at the end of the session like normal.

What would happen if two pirates on the same server session tried to bury their treasure in the same place? I think there's some serious coding issues with the idea.
You would also need a better reason why the treasure couldn't be turned in at an outpost. Right now I can think of few reasons to go through the trouble of burying my treasure.

The only way I see it working is if there were voyages that required you to collect a certain amount of treasure before being able to turn it in AND there was a way to keep your valuables between server sessions.

"Collect 20 Curios and treasure chests and return them to Ancient Spires Outpost on the 25th of May for additional reward and reputation."
Then you can designate a spot on an island as your cache. The only way to access the cache is to have your Cache Map, which could be stolen off your ship and/or person.

Lots of new mechanics there, but it would be cool!

  • I wanted players to be able to bury their own treasure. I would suggest that, once you've buried your treasure, you automatically get a map of your treasure location in your map inventory. That map can be dropped as a 'message in a bottle' by the player, or if the player is killed.

I'm not sure if the map should be kept after logging out, but perhaps if you did log out with your treasure map, then it would spawn as a 'message in a bottle', perhaps at your log out location. That way, your buried treasure 'might' be safe when you log out, or someone might find it.

It would be fun to write your own riddles, but that would get seriously abused so no-one but the treasure map owner would be able to decipher the clues (or they'd just write nonsense, then write down the treasure location on a bit of paper etc..).
