My crew and I have been trying to get a rough estimate of roughly how many squares on the map represents a nautical mile. Since there are commendations for travelling so far for journeys it'd be nice to know roughly how many we will gain depending on how we travel to our destination! Thanks all!
Nautical Miles
@fatgrizzlybear well for me i don't know but i just roughly assume/chose that each box is about 1 Naut. And do to that i just count the number of whole box's (then add the guesstimation number of partial box's if you want) and there is your Naut. Until someone tells me otherwise.

Well if were talking real sailing an old Pirate sloop may get 10 knots if the wind is in the right direction and strength.
assuming a square is 1nm it should take you approx 5 minutes 30 seconds to cross a square at 90 degrees
time yourself and you will know :) i think a square goes by quicker so possibly not accurate for the sake of gameplay, otherwise there would be alot more sailing.
and lets not talk about tides... because that could add hours to journeys
I do not recall the precise results, but I timed sailing across the map a while ago, and it takes between 15 and 20 minutes. Speed of a period sailing vessel was ~8 knots. This would indicate that the entire map is about 2-2.5 nautical miles across. That would put one square around .1 nautical mile across, which sounds right because you can traverse a square at full sail in the blink of an eye.
@fatgrizzlybear a square us about 500m
You have xbox stats and can check ot before/ after for distance
That means every 3 squares is about a naut@lucid-stew said in Nautical Miles:

15-20 mins real time~15-20 hours in game
If you really want to time it use the in game clock to set the baseline@rattlyfob said in Nautical Miles:

If you really want to time it use the in game clock to set the baselineby this logic, you can run about 1000mph. The distances and times I referenced were verified using physical distances as a baseline, mainly the height of the average character. While that probably has a fairly significant error rate, its not 60:1.

Again tho, you have a way to measure distances provided in the game. (Xbox stats) so we can accuratrly measure game distances as well as time.
From there we can get accurate real world anf in game speeds to compare.
