I can't believe Fishing was not introduced.

  • Huge part of every day sailors life and this game forgot about it. We need to sit down, relax and just fish. Use fish to smack someone face or just cook it over the fire?

Come on Dear Devs. Make it happen.

I think it's highly likely that they will down the road. WE WANT FISH!

  • from the AMA:

Exactly where we started on if we can expect it or not

  • well we can conclude that 2 of them think its a good idea.

  • I also think it's quite bizarre not to have it it's why I am ultra hesistant with the game so far. I got a vibe in my stomach if the game isn't generating tons of players they are going to make a battle royal mode instead of generating content to do besides PVPing and fetch quest all the time.

  • @jaxograverot
Unfortunately big boss man doesn't :(

  • Given that after a couple weeks the 3 faction grind will lose its appeal, fishing could have been a space filler for the repetitive grind for shiny skins.

  • @windcatcher87 pretty sure fishing was no part of a pirate's life. If they wanted to sit down, relax and fish, they wouldn't be pirates, they'd be fishermen.

  • @uberkull yup it's what i've been saying the people who are vigorously defending it at the moment might eventually break out of their hype phase and see it as well, after the buzz wears off we will start seeing how the community really is. It's why GAMEPASS is a blessing. lol

also pirates ate a lot of fish and turtles/seals/penguins

  • @lifewcoke said in Fishing:

If there isn't fishing in the final release I am going to riot!!!

  • @uberkull
I can't think of much more boring than fishing in a video game lol, but if that's your thing then why not I guess.

  • I doubt we'll see fishing in the initial launch but if there's enough outcry for it they could patch it in later.

I don't think they forgot to include it. I think they just felt like it didn't fit in well with the core game mechanics and what they were going for in their design. Maybe that will change.

Where did I state fishing would be a exciting game changer? Space filler. Read better.

  • Im all for fishing, it would be really nice!
But as a friend of mine said when i took it up, he said "fishing would be really nice, but forget that for a second, what i really want is fishing on a bigger scale. What if there was whale fishing? Harpoons on the boats, throwing them at the big whale to kill it and sale for profits ala Black Flag" and ooooh man, my imagination ran wild ^^

  • @uberkull
Where did I say that you said that fishing would be "an exciting game changer"? Use better logic. And I'm not against fishing even though I'd never do it. I am simply stating my opinion that it is boring to me.

  • I'm all for more to do in the game, but I don't see how they add fishing to this particular game, and would be willing to bet they don't add it based on them saying they don't want mini games that take you away from the actual game world.

For this game, I would rather see more dangerous sea creatures added besides sharks: oversized angler fish, sirens, hammerheads, whatever. Add a harpoon you can throw into them and pull them around, or they pull you around. Would be more fun in this particular game's style.

  • Maybe, just maybe there is fishing. Maybe they don't want to announce that yet. I mean you can read the writing on the wall. They see the comments here, they have a fish logo on the banana barrels on your ship. I would say they are being Koi (pun intended) and maybe keeping quiet about it.

  • @nightmare247365 lol i wouldn't hold your breath if i was you.

I bet they're also keeping poker, starting camp fires and cooking food a secret too... i mean they see people have asked for those as well. I've seen harpoons in the shop too. They must be used for whale hunting and latching onto enemies boats on launch day. Im sure they are just keeping quiet until the 20th! Sarcasm if you can't tell... :(

  • @windcatcher87 Here is my thoughts on fishing. (keep in mind I like fishing. )

    1. What are you going to do with the fish ?
    2. So many people already complaining about hostiles sinking them. Who really wants to anchor up and fish?
    3. they would need a whole other building as then the community would want a variety of fishing rods and reels and bait/lures.
    4. I'm no computer whiz but the programming/coding would be LARGE I imagine anyways having to put in fish that are aggro to lures and line tension/break.. who knows maybe im wrong and thats easy.

still would be weird to have sea of thieves fishing.. maybe trolling off the back of the boat at half speed?

    ^this

  • @hudson-rl Poker/C***s is out for sure. They had said in the AMA that they worked on a dice mechanic, but I doubt actual games will be in the game.

They want you to be creative. So giving you the tools to do so is creative. Basically, we will give you dice/cards, but no specific press (key/button) to sit down and play poker. You would have some interactive cards and from there you can do with it what you will.

  • I don't get the fishing hype. If someone asked me to list pirate activities, fishing most certainly wouldn't be on that list. It could probably be fun if it had a solid implementation, but I totally understand why it's not a feature at release date.

  • I'm not really for fishing, but to answer your questions, they could be sold to the merchant alliance, equipment vendor could sell rods/bait and there seems to be interest from the community in it.

I'm sure they tested some ideas with it. And as some others have said... maybe it's a surprise coming with launch.

  • @fuzzymaker I am in the same boat har har har.

I think of us today as a human race and we have deep sea fishers and nets. I am not sure that pirates would have had the technology for deep sea fishing. Nets for sure, but they could not pull up a shark or swordfish unless it was in a net.

Now smaller surface fish like a cod/bass for example maybe something that they could have used for food/resources. I also think that IRL they would have planned well ahead of time, packed their food/water since they are too busy making sure to keep an eye out, rowing/casting the wind, and doing other things on the ship that fishing was only a food necessity if they ran out of other options.

  • @sir-rhavi really?

  • @church420710 if ya have to catch chickens and pigs why not fish?

  • @nightmare247365 a dit dans I can't believe Fishing was not introduced. :

    Yeah no.

  • @windcatcher87 This is a really interesting image, but it almost looks like that person was on an ironside of a ship. It could just be the drawing, but I would have put this Late 1800s early 1900s.

  • Monster Hunter has a nice fishing mechanic. Obviously, when i first think of Monster hunting i don't jump to fishing but its a nice inclusion to the overall experience. You can fish with your friends. catch the fish, then eat the fish, sell the fish or use them for crafting.

I'm fully aware it doesn't sound too exciting for most but we spend 99% of the game at sea! Let us do something while we have a slow/dull journey from point A to point B. Sea of Thieve's isn't the most exciting game at all times. Give us something to do during the downtime. The only way to get health back is by eating bananas. Why couldn't we eat fish too to give us a great health boost.

im just disappointed its not in. the game looks great and when everything falls into place its a brilliant experience but far too often i'm left thinking about how empty and souless the world feels. I can't sit in a chair. I can't use the camp fires at a beach. Everything feels like a decoration.

Use it as a weapon (smack faces) - similar to Vomit.
Cook over camp fire on many islands. Sit down relax, cook fish and play a tune.
Use cooked fish as a health platter for your crew. (All can grab a piece during a fight).
Collect fishes and earn custom Fishing rods, Hats and costumes.
    Complete daily fishing quests
Load cannons with fish and let it rain causing very slippery conditions on deck ))

  • @aenima123 You are entitled to your opinion. It may very well be right, but we will not know until release what entirely is in the game. They did say that at this time Drums did not make it in, but are very close.

  • @windcatcher87 said in I can't believe Fishing was not introduced.:

    @sir-rhavi really?

Oh wow, so pirates would occasionally fish over the side to bolster their rations. The picture even shows the guy fishing with nothing but string over the cannon, if it was a regular thing they'd have nets, rods, etc. If we add every random task a pirate might have done, why not add s****ing over the rails and sewing pant holes?

  • @nightmare247365 said in I can't believe Fishing was not introduced.:

Royal Navy 17-18 century. Just a fact that proves fishing was a common thing during the age of sail.

  • @windcatcher87 However, the golden age of Pirates were the 1400s not the 17-1800s. That is a huge difference. Even in the Americas (New World) many would not fish too far from the shoreline. Sailors in the 1400s were still scared of sailing off the edge of the world or that Giant sea monsters were out in the waters, I am not sure many of them would hang off the boat via a cannon like this guy.
