Is it worth $60? [Edit on March 21 after 5 hours played] - Review

$60 US, absolutely. However if you're in another country you may have to think twice.

I heard someone in New Zealand say it costs him $120 NZD which is about $90 US

It‘s 70€ in Germany which is about $85 US. Still, I preordered it because I just love the emerging gameplay that happens with SoT and friends 😁
Unfortunately it is Windows 10 only so about half of my usual group of friends won‘t be able to play it (yet).

    If you are a...

Playing on console is fun too. I own a nintendo for example and enjoy those type of games as well. You need to chill the heck out. People have preferences.

    [mod edit]

Man, check out the grammar on this guy calling people morons. Would have thought you'd have a grammar checker on that PC of yours. Oh, and learn how to use the ellipsis; failing like you do here is one of the biggest indications of a low quality mind, in my experience.

For note: Anyone using the phrase "Console Peasant" unironically, really is a little deluded. Have you see now much a One X costs?

  • Do you know this game is only £6.99 in the UK?

We buy an Xbox Game Pass & can play SoT & hundreds of other games for free!

I even got my Game Pass on eBay for £3.

So Sea of Thieves for £3 is a bargain!

  • @nightmare247365 duderino, no more betas you fool!

  • Yes yes and yes

  • @ksi-problematic
Firstly, that sort of language is totally unnecessary and not allowed on these forums. Secondly, different people like different things. The whole PC vs console debate is incredibly silly. Let people play whatever they want however they want.

The short answer to is sea of thieves worth it: yes.
    the long answer: yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees

But thats for you to decide for yourself. If a game is worth it to you.

  • 3 scales tests and 1 beta with almost 20 hours already invested into the game, all lost now ready for the new server start on Tuesday.

More than happy paying my £49.99 (which interestingly on conversion would actually be $69.82 at present but that has been discussed more than once) though to start it all again and continue my fun.

Each to their own I say but definitely worth the price compared to some of the other fetch-quest garbage that exists out there bringing little new content to the table.

  • Are you and your friends on xbox? If so I would say yes, Xbox game pass lets you play this game for $10 and that is a great deal.

Otherwise I would recommend you to wait, you won't miss anything since there isn't any stat based progression.
People will be on the same level as you even if you play it 6 months later.

  • Well, I've payed $90 because of my country's .vat so I'd say $60 is a pretty good deal for an AAA game, the standard deal at least, that's for sure.

If you're uncertain and are not about collecting the Black Dog Pack pre-order bonus, wait a few months before more content drops. But despite all the worrying about possible lack of content, even the little things will keep you occupied.

  • @bookoftheblade I 200 percent agree. Me and my gaming group lost a whole weekend to this game in sheer Glee. It has left us wanting more and the wait is too much!

  • @dustlessboot Duderino.....You do realize this was a necromanced thread and my post was 8 days ago. Before last weekend's beta. So congratulations at paying attention to details. Good luck finding where the X is on your treasure maps.

  • I know I will get my dollars worth out of it, especially with the updates being free.

  • I would pay more, heck I was going to buy the game for me friend but he came across some money and bought it already. Bottom line, if you buy that Game Pass for $10, I guarantee you will just end up paying for the game($60) anyways, totaling out to $70....Just buy it :D

  • 60 Dolla and u asking if its worth man o man wish we paid that for this game. Lucky b*****d!

  • @uldra11 Even though you're worried about the lack of content, I think Rare might be holding some stuff back (I could be completely wrong). Plus, they will continuously update the game for what they (and I) hope will be 10 years. If you are still worried about the lack of content, the wait about 3 months after the games release when the first major content update comes out. Personally for me, I love the game and have already pre-ordered it. I hope I could help!

  • To some yes. To some No. It's all a personal choice.

  • @seldros I still don't understand the whole "lack of content" thing. Have people been playing the full release without folks being aware?

  • Jesus C****t how many of these price threads are going to come up. The game comes out on the 20th with a free trial on game pass for XBL if you are really that concerned just wait and see -_- this entire conversation is ridiculous.

I’m sick of everyone throwing tantrums based off the content they have seen in a BETA grow up and be patient stop throwing tantrums over the content of a game that hasn’t been released and wait to see how well it goes off. Waiting a week after launch isn’t going to mean the end of your life.

    It’s a video game.

  • For me, yes. I have paid significantly more than that for other things and didn't have nearly the time and quality of fun I had playing just the scale test and beta version of the game.

Then again, I'm not looking for

    • Hardcore PvP
    • A fishing simulator
    • A place to play card games, darts, and shuffle board with friends
    • A personal lair to upgrade
    • Crafting, cooking, and spell/potion making
    • A range of ship types to functionally upgrade with specializations
    • A safe zone/social hub/knitting circle
    • An MMORPG
    • A massive map filled with hundreds of ships
    • Etc.

I've not had two years to craft a wishlist of ideas that I am emotionally tied to. What I played in the scale tests and beta, as well as the content announced in the most recent videos has been more than enough.

  • @nightmare247365 I saw it was 8 days old after I posted... Finding the X is always easy! usually between z and c

It's unjust for the community to jump down people's throat when they don't use the search function, and then also get mad when they find a place to post rather than starting a new thread.

  • @uldra11 we pay over 90$ for the game here. to say smeone wont get more than 40hr or enjoyment is really just personal preference ,i have over 140+ hrs played and I plan to go hard for at least the first 24 hrs on releaase ..... as for there are no hidden story to dicover, maybe you haven't explored enooough or played the game enough to find it. (keyword is hidden) ........we all think differently though as I think blackwake is trash and kingdom come is NOT WORTH THE PRICE with c**p graphics and clunky playstyle why wouldn't a person just play skyrim or something...... To sum it up I think I will get more than my monies worth out of this game .. I already have actually

  • To repeat what others have said, it will be worth $60 to some people (myself being one of them), and not to others. It really isn't like other games out there. The fun is primarily in the social aspects of the game. The cliche about the journey and not the destination applies here.

I'm not sure if Game Pass works for the PC version, but no one on Xbox has to pay $60 to play. You can pay $10 per month until you get tired of it. If you already use Game Pass, it's just another game for no additional cost. Microsoft games being available at launch on Game Pass really is a game changer (no pun intended).

  • @doomed-panda you cant really pay 10$ per month until tired of it , as gamepass changes it's available games every 14 days. so sot will be gone on the 14th . it's more to let you tttry the gaem for longer than a demo to rope you into purchase .. you may not know that as it sounds like you are on pc

I'm not on PC for SoT, and Game Pass does not change available games every 14 days. I know this because I have Game Pass.

Edit for Clarity: Sometimes games are removed from Game Pass, but it isn't on a set rotation. It's likely that Microsoft exclusives will remain on Game Pass longer than others. I traded in my hard copy of Halo 5 and got game pass so that my friend who I'm game sharing with can play with me, and Halo has been on there for quite a while now.

  • @doomed-panda I don’t think The game pass is available on PC. They might just have to watch videos of GP to see for themselves. But the first 2 weeks of the game pass is also free so potentially if you don’t have game pass your first two weeks of SoT is totally free on xbox o.o

But that only applies during the trial. After you’ll have to pay like everyone else

  • @doomed-panda weird how games change and disssapear on me tho.. So I looked it up and your right , it doesnt change every 14 days , sorry for the misinformation. but they do pull games off everyy few months it says.. also apparently (new thread for ppl)

  • @p0pc0rnh3mer01d No worries! Obviously, I can't really predict how long Sea of Thieves will be on there. It could very well be removed fairly quickly, but I have to imagine the Microsoft exclusives will stick around for some time.

  • @toastywrath game pass works on PC.

  • Just watch a Blackwake gameplay video and then a Sea of Thieves one and you will answer your own question.

  • Lol only 40 hours? I plan to have that in 2 days binge gaming. You and your crew need to get on a whole other level.

I can spend 40 on hunting other players and still want more.

Yes! As much as i love MMORPG’S, i am not looking for something like tjat in this game. Well said pirate!

  • @diknak LOL Well there you go XD the game is basically free for two weeks.
