Yes I know it's a bit strange to talk about the future of Sea of Thieves, when the game hasn't even released. But when I have been playing both the Alpha and Beta with random people, I tend to find ideas for future major DLC brought up. And hey who knows, Rare might start up the DLC concept stage, shortly after release.
Anyway, the two suggestions i find most common for major DLC, is a new faction (such as the Navy) or more islands. So I'm wondering, if you had to have one, which would you pick ?
In my opinion, whilst being able to be part of the Navy would be really cool, i think there would be a lack of balance between factions. I really do think most people won't transition to the navy and remain a pirate. You find this in cops and robbers games. Whilst there are people that do want to be police, the vast majority would rather be criminals. As a result, overtime the Navy faction may lack support, becoming neglected and forgotten.
On the other hand with new locations, having to start a fresh to visit them isn't applicable. New islands can also bring significant change environment-wise.
An expansion inspired by Piracy in the Sulu sea and Chinese sea would be wonderful in my opinion as well. Not only does the environment differ from the Caribbean, but so would the houses architecture, clothing and NPCs that you deal with.
There is also the option, if SoT wants to stick to the Caribbean theme, to have Volcanic islands, purely made out of molten rock, with lava pools everywhere. But unfortunately cultural aspects would stay the same.
So in short my vote goes to map expansion. How about you guys?
