Steam Version required!

  • The point of it being on the windows store is to make people play on xbox or windows so why would it be on steam??

  • the only way im buying this game is if it gets released on Steam.

  • @painsanta sure, lets just throw another game onto the steam store that would get pilled upon by the ever growing mound of trash that is the steam store.

Don't get me wrong, I think steam is a good platform, but steam doesn't deserve a game like SoT on its platform, SoT is to good for it

  • Being on Microsoft or steam really doesn't make a difference the game would still run and play the same, it very unlikely it will come to steam as the game is multiplatform (pc & Xbox). Most computer already have Microsoft (Xbox App) install on starting up. If they did bring ti to steam i believe it would mean having more servers and these servers would only be able to be used on pc and it kinda defeats what Rare wanted to achieve.

  • @grexxy751 I guess you don't play Overwatch then. Steam is just a library. yes it nice to have all your games in one place but it not really all that important even then you can always add non steam games to your library.

  • It makes no difference how it is delivered get over it and either buy it because you like it and want to support rare or don't.

How dare Microsoft give you an option to play Xbox exclusive games on your PC!! Shame on them for publishing games that rely on their network servers and matchmaking on their own games platform!!

    @PainSanta
^ AMEN. Not every game needs to be on steam people. And this game has valid reasons not to be. Ik it would be more convenient for some, but its really not that hard to buy it.

    How 2 Not be lazy:
*Log in with the Microsoft account you already use for Win10
    *Pay for the game
*Search "store" in windows 10 (for pc) and go to "my library"

CONGRATS! Its not that hard is it! It auto goes into a program included with windows! Since you NEED windows 10 to play this game on PC anyway, anyone who is eligible to play it already has the store needed to buy it! So if you think about it it would be more inconvenient for a lot of people for it to be on steam.

The first time i saw this game i was really excited! Even tried to access to the insider program and finally was able to do so. The game wasn't exactly as i thought, had a small deception there, but what i had between my hands was so FUN even with random people and not even friends!

So the next question for me was should i pre-order or will buy this game?
    And the answer is no...

The reason is simple: Not on Steam and even worse on Windows Store... never bought a single game on the windows store platform, allready had to suffer with Origin & Uplay that are c**p platforms, but Windows Store is the next level of c**p.

    Short story:
I'm waiting State of Decay 2, since i saw rumors about it. It's a game i was more than hyped and that i thought would be an instant buy / pre-order with eyes closed. I think no one can be more hyped about this game than i'm, but....
    Windows Store exclusive.
This single thing makes me hesitate to buy it and i might not even buy it even if it makes years i'm waiting for it!

So just put this game on Steam. Game will have more visibility and more people will buy it, cause Steam is the reference for any PC player that doesn't spend a ton of time looking for games all arround. A lot of people boycot Windows Store for good reasons especially for video games, so even hyped players, like me, won't buy it on WS.

To be honnest i would spend 20 euro or even x2 price if it was on Steam and buy it without even thinking.

AGREE 100% this windows store is b******t, its an f****n APP store like Google play or a cheap copy of it and this xbox thing is S**T AS HELL i cant deactivate it and it will record EVERYTHING what i played.

  • For everyone saying "the windows store is s**t" Please say why. I understand it does not have the features steam does, but that doesn't make it worse.

  • @frunchtost this is easy, its [Mod edited] cause u need 2 tools to invite friends u need Microsoft store u play the game and u need this Xbox thing to play with friends, i mean [Mod edited] ? why u dont put this 2 tools together.

  • @kailmenoke I understand this complaint, but tbh the xbox app uses like no system resources and its pretty straightforward to invite your friends.

Me and my friends who have never used it before figured it out in like 5 minutes

    • Slow or sometimes unresponsive
    • download is horribly slow
    • does not inform correctly about the state of the download
    • it has to still connect through the xbox hub, which is launched beside it in order to do so
    • they did not integrate party and games feature into it, so you still have to keep the xbox hub launched
    • the library feels lacking
    • I rather have game recommendations on a store page instead of microsoft excel and what the heck not, which is less likely relevant to me:)

This is all that came to mind right now.

  • @frunchtost next thing is that i cant invite friends to my game when im already in the game. This is realy annoying or tell me how i can invite people to my game when i already into the game?

  • @kailmenoke You currently have to switch out to the Xbox app and go to your friend's list and click on the user you want to invite to the game then click "Invite to Game"

Not Ideal but I'm sure they are working on a way to improve this workflow.

  • @kgmshylian I understand that it has issues, but for example Im buying this game on the windows store. And unless another game that I really want comes out on it, I will never use it again.

Ik it has its problems, but I only have to deal with it for one game. And honestly I didn't find it that difficult or terrible as your describing.

Im not stupid i already tried it, when i made an right click of one to my friend i can invite him to an Chat or an Xbox Party.

  • @kailmenoke I never said you were matey :( As long as you have space on your crew say 3 men on a 4 man galleon THEN you can invite a friend. If you have a full crew you will not be able to invite an additional friend.

  • @musicmee im alone with my sloop when i right click its says only invite to chat / Party when i add him to an party it will open only an Xbox party :(

  • @kailmenoke Did you start a single player sloop? If you did... you will have to exit out and choose a multiplayer sloop.

  • @musicmee nope. we enter the game together but after an hour he got an disconnect and i wanted to add him again. I know that i could leave the game too and we can made an new game buuut i think this should no the way to be.

  • @kailmenoke And nobody else is showing on your crew list? Press ESC - My Crew.

Very odd, this shouldn't be the case - unless the game is trying to matchmake you with others in the background.

  • When my brother would disconnect and have to come back he would just go into my xbox profile and click join from there and he would come right back into the party

I saw someone say that the download from the windows store was slow? I was downloading at 2 to 3 times the speed that I can get from steam if not more, it was making way more use of my full download speed from my isp

  • @musicmee nothing there was no way to invite him and nobody joined my game, i mean after an hour we just made an new game together but this is just annoying. I need an Tutorial how i can invite friends.

  • @bookoftheblade

  • @kailmenoke Ahhh well. Sorry I couldn't help but thanks for trying the things I suggested.

The current build is to test scale and while they are not gathering feedback I am sure this is all beneficial all the same.

  • @kailmenoke Not sure I'm reading this all right (it's after 6am my time and I haven't been to sleep yet ... lol). To invite your friend, you should be able to do it when the game starts right after you pick the type of ship and crew).

If you are already in game and on a ship with an open crew spot, your friend should be able to open the XBox app, right click on you and choose Join. I can't remember right now if he also would need to have the game open first or not .. did it last week but I can't remember offhand.

We can start an game together but if he get disconnected he cant join me even i cant invite him to my game.

  • @kailmenoke Better double check, is this on PC or XboxOne?

If PC, has he tried opening the game, then opening the Xbox app, right clicking on your name in his friends list and seeing if there's a "Join" option. I did a "join" last test when I got disconnected from my friends and it worked.

  • @mantonx2 this is the PC version of Sea of Thieves, we tried a couple of possibilities to come into the game i mean it was not only him who cant join, when i got an disconnect i also cant join into his game.

How will you never use it again, when you have to sometimes troubleshoot or check for updates? If you have one software purchased on it, that already means you will have to use it again.

If you did not find it that terrible as I described, I wonder if you used other platforms at all. Steam, GoG, Uplay, Origin?.. The whole microsoft store is an inconvenience. They just again wanted to make something that they can call exclusive, so they can do whatever they want on their own platform. :) Instead of going with one of the already established and working ones. They are just troublesome, is all.

Edit: Their platform btw is good for normal and office softwares, but not suitable for games. However I look at it.

That's a pain man .. I haven't had any problems at all since beta started but I know others have. I would probably either send in a request for help from Rare or start your own thread with a subject like "Unable to re-join a game after I get disconnected" so it stands out on its own (it's kind of buried in this Steam Vesion thread. Give it a better chance for Rare to see it and find out if other people also are having the problem.

  • @kgmshylian I use Steam all the time, Ive used steam for almost 5 years and have lots of games that I play all the time.

What I meant by "only using it once" by I will only use it when I wanna update or use SOT.

And I understand that steam would be convenient but it doesn't bother me that much that its on the windows store, they are not gunna put it on steam and Im still gunna play it so, this convo is irrelevant to me.

  • @oldmansutii said in Steam Version required!:

I find it amusing that folks are complaining about this rather than being thankful for even having access to a title that would in years past have been a console exclusive.

Do you think the title is available for PC too just because they want to please people ? It is available because that means more copies sold for them. It's not an act of charity.

And if the game would be on Steam, it would mean even more copies, and more money to keep the game alive longer.

I'm not even talking about how awful all those microsoft W10 apps are, i had to do troubleshoot during hours for 2 of my 5 friends for them to join the game.
