Ahoy there, hope you are doing well and the seas smooth! I just wanted to raise something for consideration regarding the ability to form and disband alliances. I fully understand that piracy has deep elements of cunning and double crossing. All is fair in love and war after all! Sometimes allegiance is only convenient for so long or when the reward outweighs its benefit. However, yesterday we had another encounter where an alliance was formed, seeming all was well. However as soon as the fort was cleared (other crew did not help and alliance was formed to avoid senseless battle or theft) we loaded the treasure and the kegs on our ship and both departed to port for handing in, Only for the other crew to suddenly kill our members, board our ship, detonate the bombs and blow us up. Thanking us for the "donation" and stealing the treasure and lowering the alliance flag and leaving us like a barnacle on an elephant's backside... Now this is pirate life and under normal circumstances without an alliance this would be perfectly normal but we feel there should be stronger controls on alliances to prevent this behaviour that is rather vile and unnecessary. Surely since both crews would have received the same value of the items without conflict, why go through all that in the first place? We didn't even have a flag or representing anyone! Would it not be better to tighten the options or alliance mechanism to stop this like not being able to kill other members or to so easily remove the flag? Alliances are not formed easily but if there can be no trust or at least some form of forced trust with forming an alliance, what is the point of having the option especially now with the renewed focus on PVP and fight nights and hourglass. Maybe something to ponder over a grog? Cheers
Alliance and Teaming up
One phrase this game is built off:
Tools, not rules.
You chose to trust them and by doing so, you also chose to accept the consequences of their actions as well as your own. Besides, seems like exactly what the Alliance Flag was made for; appearing friendly for a quick betrayal at the end.
There is no honor among Thieves, of which their Sea you chose to set sail in.
