Fix Diving

  • Diving is a mechanic that helped the game in some ways and completely broke it in other ways.

I think a fix that Rare should at least try to see if it would work is making players purchase diveable raid voyages from outposts.
Players/crews can purchase one raid voyage at a time, and when they buy it, the voyage is automatically active for their ship, so as soon as they sail to open water they dive.

We can still use the quest table to start any voyage we want, as long as we sail to it, but if we ever want to dive, we have to visit an outpost.

This change would still allow crews to start voyages faster if they want to, but it would also encourage more players to sail from one voyage to another.
It would also help ships not dive the moment they see another ship on the horizon coming towards them, which would make the servers feel more active and alive.

Diving has never helped this game, it completely ruined the game's main premise: finding other crews. The only solution now is to remove diving.

  • @karminiumsot I 100% support removing diving and agree it ruined the games premise, but I understand the intent behind it.
I just know it probs won't ever be completely removed, so this was another solution to the problem I thought I'd offer.

  • Why not just put all dive/raid voyages on a 1 hour timer to keep ships on the server after diving legit or spamming 2 X-spot maps the only way they move to another server would be portal hop but that also needs put on a timer say 30 minutes and the only way they can leave is to quit server and start fresh i for 1 am sick of reaper 5 brigs galleys hopping to an island away to me as i just get on land and start my grade 1 flag voyage you cant react fast enough as their at your ship in no time .

I have sayed this point to a number of folk who think the same Diving is out of control .

My view but will probably fall on blind eyes and not taken into account .

    Thanks Loyal .

  • @loyal-l3g3nd Diving needs to be removed period. It has harmed server stability, server health, and only leaves the dev team to fall back on terrible ideas catered to diving.

  • Marine Biologists and Pirates agree: Diving Disrupts Sea life and must be stopped.

  • If not remove diving, at least make it less desirable to dive to another server. Reset your emissary level or something.

And if they do this, they also need to rethink how emissaries work. Remove the Reaper visibility from the map. Change the Reaper Grade 5 ability to something else. Get rid of the Guild 5 visibility.

Being a reaper stuck on a server that won't produce any more emissaries, or as an emissary that is permanently map marked, is not going to be fun.

Before diving people would alt-f4 and find a server with a World Event of their liking or less/more reapers/emissaries on it.
That wasn't good for server stability and health either.

Diving needs a long cooldown and perhaps only raids, complete removal will bring back server hopping via TT portals and the aforementioned alt-f4 method.

True, but it gave those "time constraint gamers" a quick and easy way to start a voyage. Idk...

Yup. It was something a lot of people foresaw but it was a hope it wouldnt.

Nah, the purpose was for Fresh ships an easy way to start the day. Having it cost would remove that.

Raids: Shrines/Fortresses/Camps. Only thing it should be used for
and a long timer before you can use it again.

  • @lem0n-curry Yea but here's the issue

    1. you still have sups and grade when diving, scuttling or alt-f4 did not make you keep your sups
    2. if diving is removed, then the game can focus on bringing more stuff to the servers that require teamwork.

Honestly, I think the scaling of world events should be removed to make the events harder for small crews, giving the opportunity for alliances and teamwork. This also means certain events need their loot pools buffed.
