Merchant and Hunter's Call Crate Issues

  • It's not a new issue that we have crates that either aren't able to be grabbed once purchased, or if you do grab them, they don't appear in your hands and are gone from existence. After experiencing it twice in a row at different outposts tonight, I decided to give my feedback on that. They keep trying to fix the bug so you can grab it... but why not just fix the underlying problem? When you purchase a crate from the Merchant or Hunter's Call representative, make it drop on the dock next to them immediately upon purchase. No glitches when trying to grab a non-existent item from an NPC, just a new crate. The same can be applied to the Spears as well.

    Easier to steal, yes!

  • @skunkmunkee While you await a fix for this issue, here's a tip. When unable to claim the crate you bought - If you buy something from the shipwright (supplies, a trinket-anything at all) you should then be able to grab the crate from the merchant.

  • @mopwieldinghedgehog ya, this usually works... but lately I've claimed the crate and it just never appears in my hands and the Merchant or Hunter doesn't even show it available to grab anymore. I've had this happen a dozen or so times in the last couple weeks for both Merchant and Hunters Call.

  • @burnbacon I've been playing SoT for 5 years and I've NEVER had anyone fight me for crates that I'm purchasing from the NPC's. I'm not saying it would never happen to anyone, but I really don't think it would be a big enough issue to not implement dropping the crates.

I have to agree with this. In the years I've been playing, this has only happened to me ONE time, and it was recent. We were fighting a duo sloop circling Plunder Outpost. They were low on supplies and had to choose to either sell their chest, or fight us. They couldn't sell the chest with my friend guarding Sovereign, so they shot over and bought supplies. My friend killed them, and sold their supplies back to the merchant lol.

P.S. us selling their crates STILL happened, regardless if the player grabbed them from the merchant, or if the crates had appeared next to them. Didn't matter.

Interesting, the solution to that particular glitch is to spend more gold than we may have intended to 🤔

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not following me! 👀

  • The best workaround for the Hunter's Call phantom crate that I've found is to purchase it, buy something from the shipwright supplies, then go back to the Hunter and grab the crate. I've had 100% success rate... overspending to fix a glitch that could literally be fixed by the crate dropping on the dock.
