The Deep Sea is supposed to be terrifying, not tedious

  • Listen up, pirates. We're sailing mythical seas, with mythological creatures, not paddling in a kiddie pool. The thrill of encountering and fighting legendary monsters like the Kraken and Megalodon should be like staring into death's eyes instead of treating them like an annoying mosquito and just a nuisance. I'd love to see some investment into the terror aspect of this game.

I want the Kraken to be a genuine nightmare. Imagine this behemoth creating monstrous waves, its roar echoing from the depths, feeling the reverberations though your ship while it shakes as if the ship itself was scared. Imagine the Kraken slamming your boat from below, lifting it into the sky on a tentacle, and tossing it around like a toy then letting it fall back to the water. Then you fall into the sea, look below and lock eyes with a massive, horrifying gaze in the depths of the sea. The kind of terror that should haunt your dreams.

And don't even get me started on Megalodon. This thing is supposed to be the ocean's ultimate killing machine, not something you can ignore while playing a musical instrument. You shouldn't have the guts to jump into the ocean with that thing there. It's supposed to be the most dangerous apex predator in history. It should instill terror on the player, a reminder of who really rules the sea.

The game’s been around for many years. I know people play Sea of Thieves for different reasons. Heck, some people get on just to fish and chill, while others constantly switch servers as reapers looking for trouble and victims. However, I'd love to fear the "unknown" again, like the first time you accidentally sailed into The Red Sea and nearly wet your pants as everything went to hell. That raw fear, that adrenaline rush—it's what makes adventuring into the sea so enjoyable. Similar to the feeling of people who climb the Mount Everest. Finding treasures, making gold, PvPing and the glory if sinking another player is cool and all, but I'd love to see more threats that even veteran players should have to respect and strategize against instead of yawning.

Rare, please, make these encounters worth the risk, increase the stakes. Give us scales, bones, anything that we can sell as loot to make gold or materials to make unique cosmetics.

Sea of Thieves has immense potential to be a game that doesn’t just "features mythical creatures" but also makes you truly fear them. I'm sure I speak for a lot of people here, except maybe people with thalassophobia or "hardcore PvP fix my meta" players who don't care about other aspects of the game.

  • @the-redd-jack both the Kraken and Meg used to be a threat but they got nerfed or changed because of problems(megs near islands) but I agree they both need some love

  • It's very probable that if the seas weren't littered with rocks and there was ample sea to make you sail a fair amount of distance before reaching another island, the Poor meg would stand a chance and not be so cramped. same with the Kraken, we need more "Sea Space" I'd love to feel like i am going to have to fight him once he shows up.

Use to be, Players complained now hes...just a bad dog who needs a kick.

And don't even get me started on Megalodon. This thing is supposed to be the ocean's ultimate killing machine, not something you can ignore while playing a musical instrument.

Same as Kraken, use to be but got nerf due to player feedback

As a Bug, the Sharks spawned in mass while swimming, players complained. (mainly pvp boarders) I loved it myself, it made me fear the water more. But players cries won.

Kraken use to attack any ship, sink ships by beating you to death. Meg use too attack any ship and bite you multiple times and doing mass damage.
Tears of the Seas nerfed these great beasts.

Heck, we use to have EoR skeletons that spawn with normal skeletons, they were "too Op" for the new players. Even Keg skeletons use to spawn in groups without warning.

Skeleton Ships use too spawn on your ship even if you were sitting still or on an island....you heard that Horn, you made a jet run for your ship. (and it was always a Galleon)

  • It would be nice if there was an option for crews to vote on that would scale the difficulty of the PvE enemies they face. The only downside I can see is if an AI enemy spawned on a high difficulty crew, but ended up getting distracted, and refocused on a low difficulty crew. However, that problem can already happen, since the difficulty of AI enemies is currently based on crew size.

  • It'd be awesome to update hunter call to have a sea monster voyage. Sail somewhere in the seas, and take on a colossal sea creature.

  • @the-redd-jack agreed! They used to be more difficult and I miss that! But some people just don't like sinking I guess 🤷🤷🤷

  • 9 times out of 10 megs glitch out amd deaggro/reaggro ad nauseuem.

I would agree with both encounters being revamped
