Your obvious solution literally doesn't prevent 3rd partying.

    You dive for HG...then what?

What if the only other crew on your stamp is a defender that's stacking FOTDs? And it gets 3rd partied?

  • @sweetsandman if you invade then you cant avoid getting 3rd partied..

    All diving is invading

Allow me to elaborate by way of question.

How would you ensure that both of the following things are possible without a preference toggle as I originally suggested?

    1). Defenders get invaded
2). "Divers" that don't want to get 3rd partied only get paired with other "Divers" on a private server

  • Hourglass should not be 1v1, and imo i think it should return the ability to third party for rep since its themed to be a war type event. Hourglass is not opting in for specifically a 1v1, it was designed as an opt in for pvp on demand, and as a sandbox game, anyone can show up at any time.

As for hourglass being its own server, it HAS to be in open servers, arena died because it costed too many resources to maintain dedicated servers for an isolated mode. If rare put hourglass into isolated servers, it would fall to the same fate.

  • @goldsmen you still can 3rd party for rep, even if you're a full crew on a gally and you just turn up to two demasted solo sloops duking it out. it honestly seems like you don't even play hourglass though or you would already know that.. arena was closed because there were not enough people using it but that is not the cause of why it died, as iv already explained it incentivised toxic behaviour and spawn camping through the points system. and nobody is debating what hourglass was designed as, but you don't seem to have actually read what iv said.. it holds the attraction of being a direct 1v1 matchmaking which can be as close to a fair competitive environment as sea of thieves offers. and as competitive environments are good for growth of multiplayer games, they should expand on that prospect. As they have already removed randomising factors such as skeleton ship and meg spawns on ships engaged in an hourglass battle, they should also allow for the isolation from weather events, and random noobs.

So, again, you want PvP to get reduced risk with all the reward.

Also again; If one part of the community is told "Lower risk equals lower reward", then turning around and saying "But that rules does not apply to this half of the community." is a good way to cheese off allot of players.

Either the 'lower risk = lower reward' mindset applies to everyone equally, meaning PvPers on a theoretical HG server get less rewards.
Or it applies to no one, meaning SS should be raised to the same earnings as a theoretical HG server.

  • @guildar9194 in case you hadnt noticed, iv long lost interest in your inability to recognise anything or put together any point other than "boo hoo not fair"

  • Somebody organically taking the side of one of the crews is allowed. What is frowned upon is Teaming where you spawn into an alliance and have to fight multiple boats. I believe if you have video evidence of actual Teaming then the Teaming crews could be sanctioned.

If a Mod could clarify this then that would be helpful.

  • don't get me wrong I LOVE pvp but never been 3'rd partied is'nt something i have had before so thought it was odd and it ruined my crews streak.

    Keep dodging my points.
Also, YOU are the one saying 'boo hoo, not fair' that you can be 3rd partied.

It's hilarious how many of your snide comments apply to you.

  • Being fourth-partied was one of the best hourglass experiences I've ever had.

Early on, I was playing in a brig and we were matched. Then, another brig of their faction showed up, and all of a sudden it was 2v1. Then, another brig of our faction showed up, 2v2! It was exhilarating!

So in a way, yea, being interfered with isn't always fun; but sometimes it's great fun. I would absolutely advocate for expanding it to 2v2 as well, but I don't think bifurcating the pool would improve queue times or SBMM so it probably won't happen any time soon.

  • @L34FB70W3R

Rare removed third party rep just a few weeks after they launched hourglass cause people complained about surfacing to an alliance of 4 people trying to sink them.

If you are getting third party rep still then thats a bug, but there has been no third party rep even for sinking faction champ in over a year, unless they snuck a change under the radar without announcing it.

  • @goldsmen its not a bug, if you have hourglass up and you sink a ship from the opposing faction in the open world you get rep. so anyone who encounters an hourglass fight can just vote up a faction and get rep for sinking the opposing ship

  • What would be the point of having it in the open seas then, if you want the benefits of it being on the seas then you get the drawbacks too.

  • @spooper22 there is literally no benefit.. its just salty pve players who want to deny pvp players what they want because they cant have what they want (ie. full rep/gold safer seas)

Less risk, but all the rewards. Sure, that's 'no benefit'.

Still angry you can't refute my points?
If PvE players can't have full rep/gold safer seas; Why should PvP players get that exact thing for PvP?
Why should PvP players get less risk (No 3rd/4th wheels, no bad weather, no skeleton ships appearing) but still get full rewards?
    Oh, right; Entitlement.

Apparently 'Less risk = less reward' only applies to PvE players.
The PvP overlords demand & deserve less risk & full rewards!
