Game is bad since the last update (GDK - Season 11)

  • Hello,

A little message to say: Fix the game before adding more and more content. Since the past 3 weeks I've encountered multiple issues multiple times.

    • Being stuck between a palm tree and a rock then no teleporting back the to ship. Praying for skeletons to spawn and kill me. But it didn't happen so need to leave the game to restart another session
    • After diving I cannot use parts of the boat : anchor, harpoon, map table disabled. So leaving the game to restart another session
    • Server disconnecting, impossible to rejoin. So leaving the game and restart another session
    • Many other bugs that's not lead to leave the session but makes the game less playable

I'm a player with more than 700hr+ since 2019 but I'm clearly not having fun for now by playing SOT. For example, I just want to do a chill session for merchant and catch animals on small island. Even that is a pain with bugs like I mentioned before about the diving. The boat became unusable, so I force the game to close (MS-version) and try to rejoin but that didn't work. So I lost the loot, the nice bottle quest I got...

Not forgot to mention brig full of pirates that directly comes to you from the opposite side of the map to destroy your solo sloop doing chill quests this day. You cannot do anything much and get sunk, that happen every time I play. I know this is a pirate game blablabla, anyway, that's not a pleasure to play and I think most players can understand this situation. Playing in safer seas ? It's nice for new players but too limited for advanced one, and that's not fixing the bugs.

It's good to have new content, release on other console but fix the game to take care of people that really love the game and are not playing the game because they see some streamers play SOT only to chase other vessels and sunk everybody just for fun - it's part of the game anyway, the most important things IMO is to fix the bugs and let players just play the game how they want without issues.

Many players will not agree with me I know. Also this message will never have an impact on the game, but you can discuss about this here if you are fed up with the issues / toxic crews like me.

Alt-f4 or otherwise force close the game without clicking leave game, you can then rejoin the session and spawn on the ship

  • I have also gotten "diving and unable to use the anchor multiple times". Only thing that fixed it was scuttling and changing seas.

Hoping it gets fixed by community day.

  • Rare will never figure out that solo players would enjoy the PvP side of the game so much more if they were sharing the world with other solo players and not full crews.

    It’s called balancing.

Most people just go along with the solo = hard mode argument and typically just avoid PvP like the plague when playing solo.

Others will pretend to play solo and then invite a friend or open their crew when they need that extra set of hands.

And a very small minority of nightmare mode enjoyers actually enjoy being at a major disadvantage in PvP and thus see nothing wrong with solos being mixed in with full crews.

Surely when the game drops on PS5 all of the most common complaints that haven’t been addressed yet will resurface once again.

I still am not holding hope for Rare to make PvP enjoyable for most solo players. It takes them half a decade to begin to take feedback seriously.

Add solo sloop crew roster to the game. If chosen lock the crew size to one pirate and put on server with other solo players.

All nightmare mode enjoyers can choose duo sloop crew roster and simply not fill the second slot on their roster.

    Simple.

Finally we can see less running and more engaging in PvP when it comes to solo players.

Play solo ALOT and pvp while doing so, i love the shared crewsize nature of it. The balance is in the shiptypes.

Don’t you feel left out I included you.

  • @meekkitten64978 you fail to see the balancing between shiptypes

  • @callmebackdraft

You fail to understand that not every solo player has thousands of hours of experience in the game.

Most solo players will be demolished by even average full crews.

If Rare wants most solo players to enjoy the entire game and not just the PvE they should consider making the change I suggested years ago.

I’ve always been considerate of the solo pirate hunters that enjoy the challenge of attempting to sink full crews.

You are not considerate of the average solo player and neither is Rare.

Safer seas is and was not the solution to this issue. Safer seas is not a shared experience; there’s no PvP. And no I’m not suggesting you said safer seas was the solution but others will so I am future proofing my reply.

  • There is no doubt the game is full of bugs at the moment. My own guess is that they were waiting to release the GDK build first before tackling them. Many of the bugs have been there prior to this update - some of which I reported last year and haven't been addressed.

In many ways, I see this as being back in Beta and I really hope the game is brought into shape again very soon.

For me though, bugs aside, I am seeing better overall performance with the GDK build running in DirectX12. Framerates are consistently higher, LODs seem far less culled (shadows and textures remain higher quality at further distances), and the CPU usage appears to have finally been optimised properly for multithreading.

I know that's not everyone's experience, and would urge those who are struggling to run the game to check that it's running in DX11 instead, as that may alleviate some of those problems.

With just over 2 months until the PS5 release, I hope Rare focuses on the many issues with the game right now. We desperately need QA to step up and for bugs to be squashed.

  • @callmebackdraft This is what I've done so far. Work about 20% of the time. Once reopening the game I have this popup that ask me to rejoin my previous session, then after some loading it throw an error. (can't remember the beard type)

@MeekKitten64978 Agree with you about the "hard mode". I'm okay with PvP but only with crews that's really play a pirate game. Not one that are just trolling and make your session a nightmare. Also I'm not playing alone every time. 25% solo and 75% with 1 or 2 more friends, even with friends many sessions (if not all) are a pain and not enjoyable compared to previous months. Solo crew roster is a good idea but I think Rare will never do that...

@CallMeBackdrafT What do you mean about "The balance is in the shiptypes" ? A brig with 3 players will always have a small advantage against a sloop with 2 players no? (talking about the ship)

@RealStyli I agree with you, I think the bugs will be resolve soon. But I think there is a more deeper problem in the game. About balancing and "enjoyability" of the game for the player that really play the game.

Don't forget that Rare is a company and the more money earned the more it's better for them. I love what Rare created but it feels like the company is slowly falling into another huge video game company to only make profit - not taking care of their real players (and not fixing bugs) but creating only new releases of content to get new players that will spent about 100€ (base game + pirate emporium skins) then uninstall the game after 4 months.

  • There is not a more deeper issue than the constant bugs, plus instability of the servers, that this game produces every update. Every single update.
