Can we PLEASE combat the amount of reapers camping outposts??

  • So one of the biggest issues this game has EVER had is the ability to camp outposts. I cant tell you the amount of times ive had to switch servers wasting 3-4 hours worth of work because there isnt a limit to the amount of reapers or ships in alliances allowed on a single server. Theres only so many outposts, and now with guilds being added on top of alliances, the problem of being the only one in the server not part of a reaper alliance makes it IMPOSSIBLE to do anything. cant stop at outposts without getting teamed up on by at least a brig crew. I remember waaay back in the early infancy of the game even during the closed alpha there was talk about incorporating some kind of tagging and bounty system for players who are camping outposts to cause them at least the penalty of being hunted by other pirates if they did that kind of thing and it sorta just vanished. It's one thing to force players to fight or run in certain situations. its another completely different thing to render servers useless due to people aligning with reaper flags and camping outposts. There should only be 2 Reapers at MAX in a 6 ship server...there shouldnt be 5 reaper ships, all aligned camping outposts.. An quite frankly im tired of hearing; "well just change servers" when most tasks in this game take hours to complete, especially solo. nothing like being trolled by 2-3 ships by the time you get near an outpost....And i can already hear all the people mad about proposing to make the game more accessible. but facts are that a lot of people HATE the game BECAUSE of the stuff like this. If you want player retention you NEED to put something in place to deter; multiple reapers working together in 1 server, & outpost camping. Not saying it still cant be a thing, but there needs to be a balance put in place to give people a reason NOT to just camp outposts...

  • Well, for one thing Reaper ships are marked on the map so you should be able to tell which outposts they are at, and there are more outposts on a server than the number of ships so there should be at least 2 open if all the other ships are parked at one.

You can also spot mermaids around the outposts if there is a player on one with no ship nearby, and if you kill them they need to sail their ship over and you should be finished selling by then.

  • @screamthepoetry check your map for reaper ships, they show. Check your horizon. Most importantly, check for mermaids when you get to an outpost. If there’s one there and no ships around, leave.

  • @screamthepoetry

Talk about complaining about something that essentially is a non-issue and actually part of the game design. Outposts are NOT supposed to be safe havens - never have been and hopefully never will. Reaper's are clearly marked on the map so again this is a non issue. Also crews camping outposts is the most inefficient way to look for foes or treasure as there would be so much wasted down time. So forgive me (and others) if we do not believe your yarn, especially since I have NEVER seen this happen in the years I have played the game since launch. Sure occasionally someone may set a trap at an outpost for unaware players or happen to be there when you spawn in (a rarity as it is not supposed to happen, but does from time to time), but I can almost guarantee that your exaggerated examples of coordinated blocking of all outposts does not happen...and is literally impossible as well since outposts outnumber the maximum allowed ships on a server so there is always at least 2 outposts free - 3 if you include the Reaper's Hideout (7 outposts, 1 Reaper's Hideout vs 5 other possible hostile ships IF in a full server of 6).

  • @screamthepoetry Everyone experiences this game differently, but I can honestly say in my MANY hours of game play I don't think I've ever even seen Reapers camping at an outpost. I've never had an issue of an all-against-me sever challenge. Might have a lot to do with my game times, mine being late nights pacific coast?

I've experienced Reapers camping outposts several times in the last week, but I tend to change servers; it's usually obvious before I get anything done, but on occasion there'll be a low level Reaper trying it later, and, if we're unlucky, one that'll rush to level 5 using world events. At least twice we've been attacked shortly after getting to the ship (despite not having an emissary, and the second time on a non-captained ship, so there was zero value to them beyond the basic supplies).

It's a social issue playing out in gameplay, and one that will either self-correct through a drop in population, or a drop in High Seas population.

A blunt fix would be blocking Reaper emissaries from selling anywhere other than the Reaper's Hideout, and being unable to remove the Reaper's emissary flag anywhere except the Hideout too. It wouldn't solve the problem, but it would reduce (if not remove) gameplay benefits, forcing some transparency between those who are doing it for gameplay reasons, and those who are doing it to ruin games.

  • @screamthepoetry reaper ships are marked on the map at all times, there are 5-6 ships a server and 8 outposts 7 of them have the Sovereigns so you can just give them all the loot also ships are easy to see from rather far away pay more attention to the horizons also who camps outposts iv been playing since launch and maybe ran into this problem once or twice at most also I haven't seen a Reaper in weeks but that could be just lucky servers even then iv rarely seen more than two on one server and if their is more it's an alliance server

  • In five years, I have never found this a problem. I have occasionally encountered ships at outposts when I arrive, and even the occasional marooned pirate without a ship. Some were hostile / defensive too, of course. But, I never suspected any to be Reapers lurking in wait for me, or anyone else.

As others have noted, simple awareness - looking at the map, and for ships, or mermaids - should keep you safe.

  • I haven't met an outpost camper since year 1.

  • Theres only so many outposts

So many they all can’t be camping them. Which there is one outpost nobody ever visits because the area. Devils roar.

Now I have to ask. How are they able to camp the outpost you plan to visit? I always go for the furthest one away when finishing a fort or event.

It’s not as big an issue you make it to be. Unless your maki no predictable traveling paths which so far appears to be so.

  • @screamthepoetry "Can we PLEASE combat the amount of reapers camping outposts??"

    1. Load your cannons
    2. FIRE!!!

    😉

  • @d3adst1ck they are..which is why is super inconvenient to be migrated to a server with an alliance of 4-5 reapers camping said outposts...the fact that nobody can talk about this stuff without a slew of people coming in acting like its not an issue is WHY the game has had a hard time retaining a player base outside the hardcore fanbase. personally im kinda tired of trying to give a voice to casual players to better improve a game and keep players only to have the hardcore fanbase who doesnt realize that casuals dont participate in forums act so toxic discouraging an open discourse on improving a game we all love. You all want the game to continue to survive? want it to keep evolving and last as long as games like warframe or warcraft? then you all need to start accepting the reality of the game and stop assuming the hardcore players who mostly use these forums arent the main player base. thanks for coming to my ted talk. you can feel free to disagree with me, but proof is in the pudding. Safer seas is being introduced for exactly this reason.

  • @tesiccl you, like many really arent getting this. there are 7 outposts, 6 ships per server...if 5 of those ships are reapers in an alliance than no matter what you do you are limited to 2 outposts scattered lord knows how far..these teams that are all over youtube so i dont understand how everyone wants to act like its not a problem... anyway..they communicate via discord most of the time. so when you switch servers and have 5 of the 7 outposts all camped with reapers..even IF you try to avoid it..all it takes is ONE of those ships to see you, report back to the discord..and boom. every reaper in your quadrant is going to beat you to the outpost..especially since they havent nerfed the speed of the brig making solo slooping impossible. but sure lets act like its the solo players responsibility to abandon hours of work to switch servers again hoping not to get put in another one being dictated by a discord server group.... Camping outposts should have a penalty..ive been saying this since 2 years before the game was even out. it was a massive topic early on that just got abandoned because the hardcores that actually use the forums outweigh the unheard voices of casuals who try the game and just leave out of frustration without talking here.. there needs to be ANYTHING to deter multiple reapers in a server as well as camping outposts.. its not a question of IF it needs to happen. its a question of will the game survive long enough for people to pull their heads out of their butts to figure it out themselves.

  • I have played Sea of Thieves since Alpha (June 2017) and have NEVER seen this happen. Not saying it CAN'T happen but again, there are more Outposts than Ships on the server.

Limiting Reapers per server is simply limiting player choice for an edge case.

  • @screamthepoetry I’m sorry but this issue is a nothing burger and has happened to you at least twice in your lifetime of playing the game, not every session. May I suggest something else? Maybe fight the ships if they’re sitting at the outpost 24/7…

  • @triheadedmonkey absolutely wild that im apparently the only player who has also been playing since about 2 years prior to release that pays attention to social media outside these forums..there are youtube videos all over the place explaining how to take over entire servers, and yes its a big issue... but lets just pretend it isnt

this video which is one of many from someone who isnt even me, shows how people take over entire servers... stop acting like its not an issue because you all havent grasped that casual players dont post on forums like these. Nobody wants to admit that casuals are what fuels games to survive..not the hardcores who post here. Facts are this. the player base is less than half of what it was at launch and even then everyone was calling it a failure to the casual audience. One Piece, just launched on netflix and that SHOULD have spurred more players into the seas, but it didnt.. because casual players get tired of being trolled every time they try to play. its one thing to lose a half hour worth of progress. its another to spend 6-8 hours in a game like this and have nothing to show for it. Everyone here wants the game to survive right? make money and continue on for a long while?

ok cool then get your heads out of your butts, and realize you dont make up the majority of players. you are the minority. so take the blinders off and stop thinking of YOUR play style..and start thinking of the game as a whole.

  • @screamthepoetry It is interesting you mention 'Casual' players and link a video (removed by the way as it contains swearing, which goes against the Forum rules) from someone who is anything BUT casual and went out LOOKING for the edge case servers.

Not entirely sure what One Piece has to do with anything as it is not related to Sea of Thieves other than the tenuous 'also has Pirates'.

If I went out looking for spiders, I would be able to find them but wouldn't claim they are everywhere all the time.

Again, I am not saying it is impossible to find server alliances but suggesting they are everywhere/the majority of your play time seems a tad far-fetched. Unless you are actively looking for/hunting for them.

That being said, if you believe a player has been toxic in the game or suspect foul-play, you can report them to Xbox Live here. You can also submit a support ticket via Rare Player Support.

Which may also include the person who is responsible for the (removed) video link as it can be construed as targetted and deliberate harassment.

  • @screamthepoetry so you’re talking about server alliances being the issue when you’ve spawned into their server and yet you’re complaining you can’t sell anywhere instead of A) joining their alliance and B) not trying to attack them…if you know you’re in a server alliance, then either leave or make an effort instead of whining that there are reaper ships around.

  • Like many things this game offers.

A single thing happens or maybe twice. It is instantly cranked too 100 and must be a game wide issue and must be dealt with….

I mean. A good pirate with “1000” hours of experience should know…if you feel you could be ambushed. Stake out the place before you dock. Don’t dive into the water until you’re sure it’s clear.

Just because something looks safe (and it’s never just reapers. I feel bad for reaper players as the ones I fear most are the ones not listed..) if it looks safe from a glance, it’s not.

  • @burnbacon Merchants are the REAL menaces to watch for!

  • @screamthepoetry

Do you know how many pvp players would love your luck. I'm not one btw. I've been outpost camped like maybe 2x over the years. (Launch)

I outpost camped someone by accident in the middle of a storm. I think they might have been trying to camp me but I swam or something. I forget the details, but I pvp'd and won (IKR?!)

  • @pithyrumble

    I pvp'd and won

    Proof or lies

Shut up, you. I was as surprised as they were. The tremors afterwards were no joke either lol. My brain tells my adrenaline that we're actually going to die in pvp situations.

    I've discovered I'm old lol.

I don't pvp in any games much anymore.

Competitive coop is still fun tho.

  • @pithyrumble HA! get the old head sweat, feel the heart beat for ages after? That’s a sweaty fight for you.

I blame SoT. Lol I never had this issue before and I enjoyed Halo 3 Griffball and getting my aft handed to me in Marvel v Capcom. Was pretty good at Titanfall's attrition mode.

  • @pithyrumble fun though right?!

  • @tesiccl said in Can we PLEASE combat the amount of reapers camping outposts??:

    @pithyrumble fun though right?!

    Not anymore 🤢

  • I've never seen a Reaper camp an outpost without reason to suspect that someone with loot is en route.

  • Almost 4k hours and Ive only stumbled on server alliance once. Odd.
I guess if I start playing more casually, then rare is gonna put me into those servers endlessly by the logic of OP.

  • @triheadedmonkey Toughest fights I ever had were with Merchants. There is a good reason why the Level 5 merchant flag was the last one for me to complete.

  • Watch your horizons.

  • @orloglausa Your idea is a brilliant one. It'll never happen.

  • @mrat13

@orloglausa Your idea is a brilliant one. It'll never happen.

It’ll never happen because it’s not a brilliant idea.

  • @screamthepoetry theres people that would literally pay for your servers. 4-5 reaper alliance servers are THE jackpot for every player that likes adventure pvp and/or literally every streamer looking for content. Either you are the luckiest person in SoT or you're a big liar that is inflating the issue to make an argument out of it.

But on a serious note, sounds to me like you're stacking loot and then you get servermerged into these "allianceservers"? You know you can prevent a servermerges by either having one of your crewmates off the boat at all times, or, if u're solo, you can just vote on the pirates life last TT to prevent servermerges until you sold your stack.
