New NPC / Ability to check cosmetic rarity

  • Ahoy,

A recent topic here made me curious about the rarity of certain cosmetics. Since this game has no progression and cosmetics is the only thing we can unlock, a certain amount of emphasis to celebrate them would be welcome.

What if we had a new NPC in Port Merrick which we could visit and he could tell us the Rarest cosmetic of each type we own or just how rare is each cosmetic in our possession, perhaps show other statistics of rare items - Ship and pirate? He could also sell a random Rare cosmetic, but for an extremely hefty price.

Alternatively, it would be cool if we could just see the statistics of % how many players own it, when we inspect any cosmetic.

Which ever is easier. What do ye think?

  • @zig-zag-ltu don't mind but these things are strangely skewed. According to xbox achievements only 65% of players have set sail for first time...

  • @hiradc True, but I think this feature would make a lot of sense since cosmetics is the only thing that really separates those pirates who never set sail and someone who has 10 000 hours.

There was a topic here last week or so, I found out that some Bone crusher items I have in my possession and the shark figure head are rare. I thought they were rather common.

Perhaps % is not the best way to go about this, maybe having an item grade like Common/rare/ very rare/ mythic etc would make more sense?

  • @zig-zag-ltu it's an interesting idea because currently we judge based on how often we see cosmetics but that only shows which ones people choose to use.

  • @zig-zag-ltu lots of things need fixing and introducing into this game. In my honest opinion this ain't one of em.

  • @zig-zag-ltu cosmetic elitism is already rife in this community and so toxic from some who simply think they’re better than others, obviously they’re not. So I don’t think we need an NPC to validate and encourage that behaviour.

  • @tesiccl Hmm, interesting perspective. Did not think about it from this angle. But on the other hand, it doesn't take long to realize that as an example Kraken outfit, Ashen Dragon and DA clothes would belong in different tiers. But I guess if that was important it would have been in the game already.

  • Possibly, but if something is extremely rare but obtainable, i feel that a lot of people would rush to get the rarest one they could get, only to see its rarity vanish. As well i feel like the type of people who use exclusive cosmetics only to flaunt and make people jealous would use this feature just to try and brag and flaunt even more.

Something similar could be good, but im not sure how it would have to work to try and dissuade the cosmetic elitism that many people already have in the game today.

  • I would not want this as i spent lots of hours and rare defiantly excluded all the futures from items of Day one cosmetics it was day one cosmetics that sperated new and old players people still flaunt it and or dog Arena cosmetics honestly you wouldn't need to add the future if it's being flaunt in the game already just less lesser towards people who don't even play the game or know it's rarity it be a bad choice to make as people brag not having them and them seeing it would make the idea that person has it no one can unless they add anniversary shop and holiday shop and missed out cosmetics people never got or couldn't return to the gane knowing they have a chance too then yeah I can see the reasons person would want status to share to public viewing stand point me I wouldn't want see any as rare currently don't allow for players ubtain lost cosmetics....
