[Xbox] In-game voice chat + Xbox party chat

  • While playing the game on Xbox Series X and using Xbox party voice chat with my friends, I am unable to hear or speak via the in-game voice chat.

I feel like this not only puts me at a disadvantage compared to PC players (who I am cross-playing with), but also seriously negatively impacts my experience, as if I want to talk to my friends with the Xbox party chat I am missing out on in-game voice chat shenanigans and general pirate trickery.

Please consider allowing simultaneous use of Xbox party chat and in-game voice chat, or at least allow me to hear the latter. Nothing is more frustrating than meeting a fellow pirate who tries to communicate with me, but I can't hear him, so I have a choice of muting my friends or ignoring those I meet randomly on the seas.

  • @hadook3110 I agree, there are settings where the game attempts to transcribe (not often accurately) anything that is said in game chat so you at least get the heads up of attempted comms and can choose to switch quickly if needed

  • @hadook3110

I generally play solo but have a friend that can team up via PC. After literally fighting XBOX voice chat to work properly over multiple sessions we just use Discord now. At this point I've enough experience in the game to know not missing out on much not hearing other players, given how default unfriendly, unpleasant (and all that entails) it is to encounter most random others.

  • @hadook3110 You could use discord for xbox, that supports both at the same time, or you could do what I do. I turn on captions in audio settings so I can see if someone is trying to talk, then if I see they are trying to then I switch over to game chat. Sadly the game chat party chat thing is out of Rare's control, it is part of the way xbox works. You could ask Microsoft directly though.

Does it? Last time I tried it didn't. It behaved exactly as party chat, just in Discord. Did something change?

  • @tangus-00 I'm pretty sure. Friends used it the other day in Apex and it seemed to do both. Could've been game specific though.

  • THIS right here is the thing I nag the most with SOT, it's time consuming when you are in a battle/about to approach another crew/etc... Having to press the Home button, go and select into your party chat, tap down to get to the option to switch to game-chat, etc... It's all tap, rap, tap on the damn controller and by the time this is done, we've been blundered in the face. We need a faster option for this, or similar to PC users.

Yeah, it might work that way in other games, but when I tried it still didn't work that way in SoT. If you or your friends are able to get it to work in SoT definitely let me know, I'd switch to Discord in a second to get away from party chat, haha!

  • Hello, I have the same problem, I was very upset, I bought myself a headset from Microsoft, and as it turns out, in games I can hear either my friends in the party, or I can only listen to people in the game, Because of this, I really regret the money spent, it’s a pity that I didn’t know about this in advance.

  • As thread necro (reviving of old topics) is not permitted as per forum rules, we will go ahead and drop anchor on this here. Thank you.
