Does anybody else struggle in solo Hourglass fights?

  • I consider myself very good at PvP in the game and quite often find myself on the "winning" end of any sort of scuffles against any type of ship out on the seas. But when it comes to Hourglass fights, I just cannot catch any sort of break whether I'm solo or with a crew. The fights I find myself in usually last over 20 or 30 minutes or I end up getting smacked within the first few minutes of a fight. Is anybody else struggling with Hourglass?

  • That's what solo fights are in this game in general

either you get wrecked early by skill/numbers or an unfortunate one ball

    or the fights drag on

the exception being when the solo is experienced and the opponent doesn't repair their boat or takes an unfortunate one ball

Random adventure isn't often competitive especially if someone is the one that starts the fights because they will be fighting a lot of lower experience ships in those scenarios.

Spread your secret. I’ve seen a lot of people complain they last for hours.

  • Sounds like you were going up against newbies all the time and now you’ve been matched with someone of a similar “skill”, you’re being outplayed. Tbf losing only makes you a better player. Embrace the sinks and learn from your mistakes.

Biggest piece of advice I can give in HG solo, aim for the cannon line all the time until you know the player is dead, then spread your shots across the rest of the ship, and when you’re close enough before they’re back, chainshot the mast :)

My guess is that he's not using hyperbole 😁 as those other complainers.

Most crews you'll encounter in Hourglass are prepped for a fight; not all crews in regular Adventure are. They might have someone AFK for a short or longer period, cooking food, busy on an island or might have failed to spot you or don't expect an attack.

  • I don't struggle with hourglass at all 😉😋

Yes, very much so. My first few matches went horrifically, but I stuck with it and had a long streak of fair-fought wins, and now I’m forever matched against better skilled (and lucky-one-shot) players resulting in countless losses.

Sitting just shy of lvl 21 in Guardians (lvl 1 Reapers) I’ve already shelved the game mode. I’m no longer enjoying it.

Maybe my mindset will change in the future, but for now it’s a done deal.

Hourglass is a completely different level than adventure.

A majority of crews(mine included) that play hourglass are the crews that used to play arena(we’ve fought against so many tsd’s and lsd’s in the new hourglass mode) They are the top 2-3% of pvp’ers. Not to mention that many players have improved greatly with the addition of instant pvp.

Keep on diving, learn the naval angles and you’ll be streaking before long!

    Good luck out there

  • @pithyrumble 😂😂you don’t play hourglass!!

  • @vito1700 precisely

  • Solo is hard.

So often bad luck and timing can dictate a fight too.

It takes ages to get good at it.
Then some days you still have a terrible run.

Personally I’m taking a break from solo. I don’t like the stress. I just wait for my duo partner.

That is really good advice and something that I think I've started doing subconsciously. Not in HG but in general.

Again, a stalwart advocate of pvp wisdom!

  • Solo sloop fighting does require you to understand the ship and requires a decent amount of skill in pvp and managing the sloop alone.

The devs have mentioned that being solo is not recommended but if you dare for a challenge then go ahead.

  • @burnbacon Fights can vary in many ways, people of similar skills/ communication will notice battles will last longer while those with better communication and skill will usually take less time.

  • @capn-cayde much appreciated.

Purely based on my own experience with what works and what doesn’t ^^

  • @tesiccl

That is really how the whole game works. All based on experience over time and advice from others. One of the fun things about it!

  • The problem is that "healing is OP" i.e. any crew can out repair incoming damage.

But how to fix it without everything else needing to be changed I do not know.

  • Hourglass is going to be the most challenging mode of the game any time there isnt some rep event going on to bring more casual players to it.

This game has a higher skill cap than most people realize, and while i might boast about my pvp skill in adventure generally, the hourglass has a pretty devout group of players who either used to play arena a lot, or really got crazy about the mode and just stick with it. As for matches lasting a long time, that happens when 2 ships of near the same skill level face off, because when that happens, both parties will likely pull off to reset about the same time as each other, that is the time you want to rush them rather than reset.

  • @foambreaker trust, once you’re turtling in solo mode and trying to bucket when caught in a rotation from the other crew, you’re gonna sink eventually cause there’s too much water coming in to bail. So I wouldn’t call healing OP at all.

  • I am having a horrific time of it lol.

  • I choose not to self harm.

  • Nope
    (Im gonna get flamed here)
If im doing a solo HG fight and im losing, I’ll try to win, obviously, but i will attempt to sail them out of bounds, especially if they try running.

this was only an issue when people weren't getting rep for it and players were doing it intentionally to block the loss xp

now it's not a big deal as it's just another way to end a fight and players get their loss rep
