Every Season, Same Problem.

  • I don't know how to have fun in this game anymore.
There is nothing to have fun with.
Yes, it is good to have some quality time with friends in PvE, or to fight with people who is trully skilled or just funny to fight with, but not anymore. Not because of the lack of content, but because of the cheaters.
After retiring for half of the year from the game I decided to get back with my friends so we can get some Anniversary stuff, and the first crew I need to fight is the crew of cheaters. They will just not leave us until we sink.
You can say: "Maybe you are just bad" or something, but listen - it is not real to shoot 20 cannonballs from a Brig in a row from a maximum possible distance without any misses on the high waves without making some shots firstly. But they can.
They can just shoot from far away, just because they have some sort of auto-aim, and you can't do anything.
Yes, i can run from them, but for what? Until I reach Red Waters? Why should I spend hours on fleeing if I can just leave the game and delete it so I dont need to rage quit after hours of farming?
I just want to have some fun with friends, but instead I just want to get back my 80+ GB of free space on disk. This is just stupid how a lot of problems get fixed through the seasons but the main one is still there. Maybe you should change something in anti-cheat, because that one from Microsoft clearly just doesn't do its job, because not every cheat interferes with in-game values.
And I want to say, that making manual reports (with records, nicknames) maybe a good idea, but not in the game that has its fanbase growing in sizes after every update. It is both hard to make and check those reports - not everybody is playing this game on new PCs with good hardware and its not possible to check those reports if there are a lot of them and they are coming 24/7 from a lot of people.

  • "I decided to get back with my friends"

    this

love of community and/or love of content/piratical freedom and adventure and/or love of encounter

If you aren't in love with one of the above you might as well get your 80 gig back.

You have friends that play the game, that's a beautiful thing in this game, maybe y'all don't stay in this game but that's what this game is about. Experiences with others and/or experiences within content and happenstance.

There aren't enough encounters with cheating in random adventure to truly ruin the overall experience.

    • I agree that there needs to be additional measures taken to mitigate hackers.

    • I also think that these hackusations are often just exaggerated stories.

The number of times that I have been hackused this season is hilarious...and I'm an Xbox player 😂

Clearly you havnt practiced enough to know the in and outs of aiming and knowing the arch of a cannon ball flight path

I see these types of “must be cheating” and fear for the day when Rare actually starts taking action to every report on players without evidence or good cause.

My aim is that hood but I must be cheating, because you can’t do it.

the first crew I need to fight is the crew of cheaters. They will just not leave us until we sink.

So the first crew you fight are cheaters and you complain they won’t leave you alone…but from your comment you started the fight.

  • Doesn’t sound like cheaters. Some people just have very good aim on cannons (I do) and I’m on Xbox.

  • Do you quit driving after getting a ticket?
Do you quit walking after twisting your ankle?
Do you quit eating after you taste something foul?

We all have good days and bad days. I've encountered cheaters, sure, but every game has them. You've never had a bad session in every other game you have installed?

If you love the good sessions, stick around. But if you're looking for a pastime where you never lose, go watch a movie.

I use a controller, so I can somewhat relate.

  • Ahoy!

  • @highwayman7718 the new hourglass feature has turned out some very skilled naval combat. With as much time as some of those players have put into it…hitting cannon shots from afar is pretty common for them! I have experienced much more skilled crews since the hourglass has been released! And I no way did I think getting hit with cannonballs was a cheat of some sorts.

absolutely, people started improving nearly instantly because of the tough competition, especially people that spent some time in HG sloop where the first to start getting hits is going to likely control that fight for most or all of the fight.

Angles take more time for people generally but people improved their shots very quickly because of HG

Also as they brought down chain shot quantity overall in the environment that pushed people into having to adapt with better cannon shots, both of which are an improvement for the environment.

  • As much as cheaters are a real problem, in the post description it looks like a normal match against skilled players.
Given that the vast majority of this game's community doesn't know the basic PvP, being accused of using cheats is common.
I myself am accused of using cheats at least once a week, I have friends who play on XBOX who are accused of using cheats.
I believe that you only played against skilled players, because the vast majority of encounters I had with cheaters were against very bad players and it was clearly possible to see that they had unfair advantages.

  • I can't disagree about skill issue, I may be actually bad at the game sometimes, mostly because I am playing on my laptop and have occasional freezes and framerate drops, but I still play this game.

I have met a lot of people in SoT. I was helping newbies to fight other ships, have fought with skilled TDMers (most of them are actually nice guys) both in Adventure and Arena, and even fought on Sloop in solo with Hourglass on (hit 34 level reapers in 3 days by myself recently). But every time I met cheaters they don't even try to hide that they are cheating because they are bad at everything else but shooting.
    Also:
I can just look for people's Microsoft accounts, thanks for xBox Live. And I can see how much time people have spent by playing this game. There is no way to hide your timer. And I can see that the guy that just hit about 20-30 cannonballs in the same place from the distance of the square on a map without any misses while both ships are moving in opposite direction has about 30-50 hours in game.
Will you think that this guy have spent all his time just to learn how to shoot cannons? Probably not. And so do I.

Of course you aren't bad at the game. It's an adventure environment where it's not only about gold and glory. Everything is just a piece of the environment. Everyone has strengths and potential. You're never bad at adventure as long as you're adventuring. Losing a fight is just a moment in time and a story to tell, it doesn't mean you are bad at the game. As long as you look out to the horizon and think to yourself "let's see what happens" and then take a step forward you are doing just fine and are an important part of the environment, a necessary piece of it.
