Sea of Thieves map is too big, make an alternaive server please

  • @dlchief58 Let's look up the definition of squad.

    squad noun meaning:

    group
    gang
    band
    body
    crew
    team
    mob
    crowd
    outfit
    force

    Or the dictionary:
a small group of people having a particular task.

Can you get any more precise than the above? That is exactly what you do in SoT.
Yea you can play solo, but it's created to be played in groups.

I know they say never mess with the crazy people in forums, but jesus....you lot are something else.

Based on your definition, Minecraft, Flight Simulator, Elite Dangerous, Red Dead Redemption, Conan Exiles, Elder Scrolls Online, Neverwinter Nights, and so on would also be considered squad games because we can team up with other players. You are using the term too broadly in which case it would be meaningless. SoT is a multiplayer game, but certainly not a squad based game.

    You forgot Bridge

  • Anywho... Map's fine. They don't like splitting playerbase (I'd be willing to bet that had part to do of getting rid of arena and adding hourglass.) Now if they made a totally new map that was smaller size but less outposts, islands etc... that might be interesting. Be more likely to get speed boosted for all ships.

Would also suggest you learn to Solo/Duo Brig. It's the fastest in most situations. Sailing from Devil's Thirst to Sailor's Bounty does not take 25 minutes either...

  • @ghostpaw

Squad based games are games which have been created with the focus on being in a group over being played solo. SoT is meant to be played in a group rather than solo, you share loot, missions, objectives etc.

It's mainly shooters, but it can be some action games. I don't think any of the games in that list you have said are squad/group focused games.

CS:GO, L4D, OW2, TF2, DOTA, Rocket League are all in the same category as team/squad based games.

A multiplayer card game where you had shared goals for success would be classed as a group game...yes. Bridge isn't because it's solo.

  • Sea of Thieves is a Shared World Adventure Game. It is an open-world, sandbox pirate-themed adventure game, and as such, includes sailing.

There is no 'Fast Travel' by design, whilst you are transporting any loot/supplies etc, you are susceptible to interactions (be them peaceful or aggressive) as that is the nature of open-world adventure games!

The size of the world, the distribution of islands and outposts and the number of ships are carefully and deliberately balanced.

  • @barrypotter5610

Bridge you have a partner, that's why they mentioned it, it's 2v2. You're thinking of Solitaire.

    Also...can't believe I missed out in your gem of a typo...alter-naive ...

Lol. It's like that episode of Tiny Toons where the writer misspelled natives as naivetes...repeatedly and learned spellcheck wasn't a thing yet.

  • @triheadedmonkey Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the feedback.

Just to note, I did not ask for fast travel, just less sailing, as a player I felt that 90% of my time was sailing.

"The size of the world, the distribution of islands and outposts and the number of ships are carefully and deliberately balanced". Sounds like the end of the matter, and I wish you all the best.

  • Playing devils advocate here because i remember in the past it has been brought up with how long sessions are and sailing is part of it, reason why checkpoints for quests were added.
But one of my reasons for not playing as often was because mosts quests required a minimum of 2 maybe even 3 hours and sometimes i just wanted to maybe play 30 min but that was not productive. So definitely sea of thieves is a game you have to really plan out your session otherwise it can be countless hours wasted. Sailing from here to there is part of what make the long session times but i really would not want that to change nor would i want a smaller map, if anything i would like it to be bigger, with more things to keep us engaged.

And absolutely NONE of that applies to the GAMING definition of a squad based game. I already told you what defines a squad based game - Arena style gameplay in round based matches in teams with team/squad members having assigned roles (tank, healer, support, etc).

Futhermore the Wikipedia quote you pulled out does not even include the word "squad" - YOU chose to substitute it in order to support your failing narrative that the game was failing by throwing it into a genre that the game is not, saying it doesn't rank there and from that stating "...then compare this to world wide squad games it's almost non existant." Of course a game is not going to rank in a genre that it isn't - and you disregard the data given to you compared against ALL genres on Xbox Live where it ranks around #25 week after week after week.

Team and Squad based games are not interchangeable in definition. All squad based games are team based games but not all team based games are squad based games. And again you forget this game can be played as a solo player - that should be a mic drop moment right there on that narrative, one you conveniently ignored when I mentioned it earlier (but then tried to disregard the suggestion of Bridge based on that when others used your logic/definition, even though you play as partners).

And before you whine about this going off-topic, you drove the discussion in this direction by choosing to use this to bolster your false narrative of the game being dead and your idea would "save" it. These responses are showing that whole foundation is based on nothing of fact.

    Now who's "something else"?

  • i suggest doubling the space between each island.

  • @barrypotter5610 said in Sea of Thieves map is too big, make an alternaive server please:

@eva1977 I thought Arena was just PvP and not a smaller map server?

I love all the replies above saying I am a troll. Your game is sitting in the dead game section of the active player charts.

New World has a similar 15-20 minute walk between action and.... it's also a dead game. WoW and GW2 would be dead games if fast travel was taken out and replaced with 15-20 min walks between missions.

I am surprised the devs haven't done this already, it would cater for more action wanting playerbase.

I am not a new player, just new to the forums. I have about 20-30 hours in game.

If you are looking at steams charts to base that off of then OH BOY! Do i have some news for you! The majority of people who play sea of thieves play it on windows xbox app, or xbox, not steam. The game released fairly late to steam, and because you still have to sign in on xbox, many people get it on the app.

So either you didnt look into other charts, or you are as people claimed.

  • Haha, just came into my head that I posted this a year ago and everybody on the forums flamed me hard for wanting the game to be faster paced and less sailing. Then I get an email which I read from time to time from MS saying they have made some changes for the new season that include being able to "dive to your location" to start missions quicker.

I am surprised everybody in the forums hasn't lost their minds over this change.

  • You don't want everything handed to you on a silver platter either? No, really, what not to read....

  • @zeyrniyx

Nope, just wanted them to give the option to cut out the sailing parts that are a time sink for plays that want it. Which they have done, and I respect them for it.

But everybody saying that "this game isn't for me" and "I should go and play a different game" for even suggesting such changes does make it all that sweeter. I may even come back and see what's new after these changes.

  • Don't reply to them they are clearly trolling
