Internet always has connection issues, but only when I play this game

  • Playing on PC, using an ethernet cable.

I'm not sure if it's due to Sea of Thieves or Xbox Live (this is the only game I play that won't let you play if you're not connect to xbox).

Recently, when I hop into the game, it takes a few tries because a message pops up that says "You are not currently connected to Xbox Live. Please check your connection and try again." Or sometimes it says "You have signed out of Xbox Live. Returning you to the 'Start' screen. Please sign in and try again." However, my internet is fine at this point, so I'm not sure why I'm getting this message.

After a few tries, it will let me in.

After this point, every time I play this game, and ONLY this game, I start having serious connection issues. The light on my router even turns red about 5 minutes into the game, every time I play. It still let's me play for about 2 more minutes before I disconnect.

I have the best experience when I don't interact with anything Xbox, or open up the game bar, or hop onto a party call, but even when I avoid using the Xbox features, I still have connection issues often where the light goes red on my router.

Could anybody help me figure this out? Does my wifi see xbox or SoT as a threat and actively try to kick them off?

  • @mrspuddies Are you using wifi or rj-45? Your first line and last line contradict each other. Maybe you meant router/firewall?

I suggest trying this if you haven't already; may have zero use but worth checking to see if there's any difference.

-In your PC go to; settings/gaming/xbox networking, click "fix it" below xbox live multiplayer. Allow to finish, then restart pc.

    you can also try
-settings, gaming, xbox game bar. Turn that off.
-in same menu go to game mode, turn that on.
