Why is PvP being downplayed/dissuaded?

Yet most people carrying loot sail away for hours avoiding contact, and even sink their ship on the red seas or server hop just so they won't get sinked.. Pve community mentality

Why not? It's what they were told to do.

Back around launch, people would come to the forums and complain about being "forced" to PvP. The go-to response was, "you aren't being forced, you can run away if you don't want to fight".

They would complain about losing loot and the response was, "don't stack loot and turn in often so you won't lose loot".

They complained about being attacked all the time and the response was, "just switch servers if that one is too aggressive".

So now people run, hop servers, and keep their ships empty and suddenly they're NOT supposed to do it?

Good points all around, I remember that same mantra being told to me two years ago if I had any problems, even had condescending videos linked to me saying the same thing.

If I may be so bold to say, that the culture of empty ships and players running away at the first sign of another ship is nothing more, but the fault of PvP players snorting at people and say "If you don't like it, just sail away or don't have any loot". Kinda funny to then see them turn around later down the line and now call this a problem.

  • @kalgert PVE dedicated games that retain players over the years are either mmorpg's or games that offer tons of variety, recurrent updates, tons of mechanics and different levels of challenge for each type of player. (see elden ring, monster hunter, genshin impact for example)

You have to admit it even if you hate the fact, pve in this game is an afterburner, a means to an end, it was not deeply developed, it was meant for people to have something to do between pvp encounters, later I believe they realized pvp scared off most of the pve oriented folks which where probably the ones putting money on skins (happens in every single mmorpg out there) so they decided to switch direction and give a bit more focus on the pve aspect of the game, but with this old engine, they can't develop more interesting enemies/zones so they are kind of stuck with what they got. And thats why they present cosmetics or track lists as "content"

    Think about it, you have:
skeletons, ghosts (same as skellys with a weapon swap)
sea monsters (reskined ghosts with no guns)
    bulky sea monsters (damage sponges)
then you have bosses with way too big health pools but no mechanics at all except maybe that guy that toss fire balls, they even repeat bosses across different content (ashen winds guy as last boss of FOF)

None of this enemies can kill you unless you afk for a whole minute right on their faces so all you need to master to be a pve lord is to walk and shoot at the same time (basic mechanics across every single game that involves any kind of projectile based weapon)

And now on the pve content overall:
Green skulls/mermaid dungeons: ignored and neglected
fotd: rarely you can see a crew summoning one since it's way easier to just portal hop looking for a FOF
FOF: replaced by veils so few crews look in for this (btw mechanic wise it's the same as running any other fort with the addition of colored lamps, 1 new mechanic)
skelly fleets: ignored and replaced by veils
veils: naval battle against stationary structures...
forts: half a fortress with 5 ghosts waves (ghosts die on one sniper bullet...)

If you don't get eventually bored of this sort of content of course I'd call you a bot, specially since most players that engage only in this side of the game are the same that complain PVP is too stressful and difficult, they need a safe chill environment to vent off after a long day of work and admit they go through this repetitive content just to reach a personal goal (achievement, title, etc.) and once they finish are the same players who leave the game until the next big update is announced.

  • @clasico6730 "I personally love to fill my ship until hitting lvl 5 and look up a fight, having treasure on my board makes everything feel more impactful, but I know there aren't many folks with my mentality around.. It's a bit sad after all those chests are just pixels on a screen.."

If people don't want to fight, they don't have to. Lately I've been soloing milestones and I'll run/server hop if I can't be bothered to fight. PVP is fun but after doing that pretty much exclusively for years including arena 100%, it grows stale too. Nothing to do with loot, just not in the mood sometimes.

If it's just pixels pvpers could do what alliance servers do and fight all day long

The treasure matters all around, just a good chunk of pvp likes to take no risks and find quick action

Nobody's style is the issue at the end of the day it's that low investment styles have been enabled in the name of convenience.

A healthy system is where people play how they want to play and the environment is maintained to where some styles don't kill off others by having features and changes lean far into some preferences at the expense of others.

  • @wolfmanbush Yeah that was Clasico's quote, my response was the line below. I agree with you in most cases, though there are a fair share of pvp'ers that will just let loot sink (I'm guilty of it)
