Too many hacks

  • Guys, I was just trying to comment that there is probably a vulnerability since the last patch, please calm down

  • @wolfmanbush 20 hours on a new account, yet know the mechanics in and out that took some players hundreds of hours if not thousand to learn...

Having good aim transitions to a game like SoT sure, but other game mechanics and knowledge of timings you don't perfect in 40 hours of picking up SoT...

Sure some players have alts to level up in for whatever reason, but those are not common from the get go... I know a lot more alts that got gone for being toxic rather...

This is why so many get frustrated with a system of reporting, evidence, and proof. If the system is run competently it's not going to enforce based on insufficient evidence for cheating.

That is a positive thing, not a negative thing because it protects you and I from false accusations and insufficient evidence against us.

  • @wolfmanbush true, but when evidence is purely based of people having no choice but to record, thats when problems arise, manipulatipn and offenders getting away because you forgot to record that crucial eveidence is stupid....

A lot of other games they have automated systems in place that does the work for you...

SoT feels like the players actually put in more work preparing a report case then support staff do... only for offenders to make a new Google account in 5 minutes and continue with their cheats, its that easy

Toxic voice/text chat should be automated bans as an example, but its not...

As said in an earlier comment, the game needs better anti cheat software and I hope there cooking something and drop it in a secret update to catch hackers off guard..

I have personally witnessed voice to chat type offensive things many times that the person 100% did not say and that negativity was not part of the interaction at all.

That would be a highly flawed and unjust system from what I have seen.

  • For sure there are hackers. But there are also a whole lot of people who think they are being hack because they got destroyed by sweat lords and who just don’t realized how good you can become at this game with time, knowledge and practice.

I think of myself as fairly average and got called out for cheating 2-3 times with some ridiculous claims. One was claiming i was invincible while i was right in front of him actively eating meat non stop to stay alive. Another one thought i was cheating because i didn’t died when he blunder snipe me from the wheel while i was at the bowsprit. Go figure.

@wolfmanbush A legit person does not have the need to open an alternative account to be able to play, you contradict yourself, if they open an alternative account it is for something

And that something can be completely legit. They could have created an alt account because they want to do the journey to pirate legend again for instance. Take Hitbo, who has an alt account for that reason. Rare even used that for advertisement that he was doing that: https://twitter.com/seaofthieves/status/1512907739080630277

Others might have completed the season pass or are already gold tier in every ledger and want to play on an alt to do that over again to create new goals to play. Etc., etc.

So just a skilled player on a new account on it's own is no evidence of cheating, since that can be completely legit.

  • Everytime you report, just tell the offical he/she is a cheater. You don`t know the result of your report.

    My thoughts:

    1. I've seen people hacking. I've also seen skilled weapons users. You can tell the difference very, very clearly.

Exploits and macros can be pretty obvious sometimes but outright cheating is extremely difficult to tell in general and especially with as many performance issues as SoT has on a regular basis. In this game specifically it's very unlikely that a person knows if another is cheating.

Loose and mass accusations against others that occasionally result in being accurate against someone doesn't mean the accusation was based in accuracy. It's just taking a lot of shots and eventually getting a hit.

What a joke - Contact their Support team? I was banned from SoT Insider, and was told to contact Support. I did, and they told me that I was banned for something I DID NOT DO. Still livid... 😡

Even worse, I can't use their Support site to report bugs at all anymore! And I don't even know why!

One of the worst things Rare can do, and have done, is accuse, sentence, and nearly cancel one of their most loyal fans, with no recourse for a proper explanation, defense, or appeal.

I currently empathize with your plight given that I have not personally witnessed wrong doing by you or evidence of it but you do still have access to the game and the forums even though you currently don't have access to insiders.

  • I haven't seen or encountered any players using hacks or cheats since the update. I feel there's a lot of over-exaggeration going on in this thread, as per usual. If it was as abundant as it being made out, surely everyone on here (and other SoT platforms) would be mentioning this, no? Yet, they aren't.

If you think you have evidence, report the person. Simple.

I assure you that I am not exaggerating.

You assured yourself but left others to die...
    No problem
    BEST Solution
Do hardware bans. They will need a new pc then or xbox. IF continued, put a time limit to their microsoft account.
    Valorant has the same solution.

Well, it does sound like (from the "Updates To Security Features" announcement) that hardware bans are what they are planning to do in future.

I am 100% behind that - provided the appeals process is equally robust. That means they need to adhere to FOI requests for the evidence provided. I am sure 99.9% of the bans will be accurate but for the very small number of mistakes (and there will be some mistakes), there needs to be a clear path to get it resolved.

All in all though, I am glad they've finally decided to address these concerns. As warranted as they may be, there is a lot of exaggeration over the frequency of those encounters.

  • Hmm, i have been playing for a long time, and i dont remember that we have ever seen a real cheater in the game. Sure we have been outplayed by better crews and "PvP gods", but nothing that would clearly mark a cheater. And some streamers are really really good at PvP, and im sure there are a lot of normal players (non streamers) that are just as good or better.
That being said, im sure there are some cheaters around, but they are quite rare on the seas. Reading some of the posts, it sounds like there are lots of cheaters around, and i simply have to disagree on that. Then again it depends on what timezone and region you play in, so maybe there are more cheaters in other regions. Im in northern Europe myself, and those servers seem "calm" regarding cheating.

So in short, there are probably cheaters around on the seas, but they they are very rare, and not really a problem. SoT does not have a cheater problem like GTA Online or similar less moderated games.

  • Seems strange, this hasn't happened to me at all. I've also watched people playing since the last update, in different parts of the world too (Oceania, USA and Europe), but have never seen nor experienced hacks/cheats in every session. In fact, I haven't seen any.

As others have said, if this problem was so extreme, surely there's be thousands and thousands of posts on Reddit, Facebook etc about this.

Probably best just to report them and move on.

    @wolfmanbush please leave me alone

Let’s get something clear. You are posting on a public forum. This is not a private conversation between you and the developers. This is a place to share your perspective and have others comment on it. You are the one who chooses to respond. No one is bothering you. If you do not want to discuss something further then stop replying. Did you honestly believe the team at Rare would see your post and have an emergency meeting to address your concerns? You shared your perspective, then others suggested there are possible alternate explanations. This is what public discussions look like.

  • @withmyapologies tell me what you would consider "hacks" in a game like SoT.

I'm sure you have come across a bunch of them but never noticed...

A "hack" is anything that modifies the code from the outside. Either by manually editing the game files or by injecting code from a third party program.

Exploits are not hacks, though quite a lot of them are still against TOS, as they use limitations of the game (bugs, glitches/ways the game is not intended to work) to gain an upper-hand over other players.

Hacks are far less prevalent than folks using exploits.

  • I’m not reading through all these posts. Has it been specified what OP’s server region is?
Because Oceanic servers are practically cheater-free… and dead
