@vin-the-rat Yes but that crew will lose all of its loot upon crossing the portal and the loot will stay in the water for the boat chasing you. So not a viable strategy, unless you don't have any significant loot. But in this case, why not fight?
Shores of Gold Exploit
@jonny-rip There are not that many people who choose to flee in the Shores of Gold and it can be remedied easily by getting the checkpoint for the tall tale yourself.

In MY experience, this game has the most toxicity compared to others that I play and I've received more hate messages from this game than any other. I didn't mean it's the most toxic out there period as there would be no way to prove that, as you said. This is simply my experience, and I've been on Xbox Live since I had to buy a wireless adapter for the original Xbox to play Halo 2 online via dial up. FPS games are my specialty, and I've played nearly all at some point with a TON of time on Call of Duty titles. Still have not received the amount of messages, nor the nastiness of messages, that I do from SoT players.
Right here makes me doubt a lot of what you are saying due to these FALSE claims.
a) There was NEVER a wireless adapter for the original Xbox, it used wired ethernet ONLY.
b) and as stated above, there was only wired ethernet and was NEVER any dialup options for the Xbox. Only the PS2 and Dreamcast consoles had dialup internet service options (Saturn had a dialup modem option as well, but was only for peer to peer direct connections (phone to phone so no gaming outside your area code unless you were willing to pony up long distance phone charges) and never used game connections over the internet, only had web browsing through Geocities).
You can't get basic facts like these right it calls into question a lot of other things you state as fact.

The best pirates in history were excellent runners first and foremost. You should read up on the actual history of pirates. Boats were far too valuable to risk in a fight, so if fleeing was an option it was highly preferred. Not even being facetious. You may find it interesting.
The best pirates in sea of thieves arent runners & fight you head on even if you have 100k+ worth of loot on board.
The definition of being a pirate in this game is different then in irl.According to history pirates also didnt...
- Fight the undead & waterfolk.
- Shoot out of cannons.
- Use magic tridents.
- Use a mythical creature to respawn on their ship.
- travel to the afterlife to fight ghosts.
- Have their ships respawned.
Bringing in history to try and defend something in a pirate game doesnt realy help that everyone runs these days instead of having some sort of interaction or a fun fight, They all asume PvP is toxic.
These players don't run because thats what the best pirates did. They run because they have 0 self confidence, and they won't ever improve their PvP skills because they won't even try to stand up for themselves or defend what ever valiables they have.
Because they are dead scared of losing, when the treasure they have means absolutely nothing in this cosmetic based game.Oh I dunno, if you come after me when I'm on my way to sell, I'm as likely to run as I am to fight. At that point my main aim is to sell my loot, and there are plays I can make to achieve that by creating and maintaining distance.
Once my loot is sold, I'll happily turn and fight ya!
They're not avoiding playing the game by hiding there.
They're playing the game.
Just because you don't agree with how they're playing it doesn't mean they're wrong. They probably disagree with the way you play and that doesn't make you wrong either.
No one owes anyone a fight in this game. There is nothing that says you need to fight. Players have the freedom to play however they want. It's what makes this game great.

You tend to lean negative but you are passionate. Views that tend to see large groups of people as wrong or you being morally above them.
I think you would get along with people just fine with a more humble approach to community. People spent their entire lives getting to where they are now, we weren't a part of that, we don't see what others go through. A post here or there doesn't define a lifetime, just like it doesn't define you. You aren't just your negative views of others you are years and possibly decades of experiences that got you here.
We really aren't that different, not many people are truly rotten to the core. Painting others as the problem gets in the way of us being able to paint positivity around us. Life can be harsh all on its own, doesn't really need our help making it more so. I think your passion is currently negative but in my view your potential to approach things in a positive way is significant and that would lead to getting along with people that are different than you.

But if you have little to no PvP experience or you only try to out manouver, then in majority cases you won't be able to escape.Any experienced PvP chasers wil be able to out manouver & corner you before you sell any loot, i have had so many runners trying every trick in the book in an attempt to outsmart & outrun me & it never worked out for them.
I speak from experience because ive been were new players have been & now years later ive cought so many runners i cant even remember any runners that did manage to escape (there propably are, but the amount is very very small).@cpt-sockmonster said in Shores of Gold Exploit:

Wow. Ok Sherlock, maybe it was wired?
It was DECADES ago. I still have that green Halo Edition Xbox. The adapter went away years ago. And you don't have to believe a word I say: I'm not here to change anyone's mind or make a believer out of anyone. From the way a lot of people on here act, we wouldn't get along anyway.
Not sure what you're doubting, but go right ahead as your opinion, LITERALLY, could not mean less to me. The sun shall rise and set regardless of what you believe.

Where did this rant come from? What I did was point out you are trying to somehow boost your online cred with your experience and using completely false information to do so, which anyone with a knowledge of game consoles from that era would have. I found it quite humorous as well, you thinking the Xbox had dialup AND that you somehow had a "wireless adapter" that allowed you to connect to a dial-up modem none the less (such a thing never existed, and I just noticed the absurdity of that now). And there was no "maybe" about it, everything I provided was factual and easily verified. I have 3 working OG Xboxes myself and still play them on a regular basis, part of my retro Twitch streams.
If you can't fill out your gaming cred with even believable details, why should we be inclined to believe your other claims such as the one that "Sea of Thieves is the most toxic game eva!" when that is simply untrue. If you are making stuff up about your experiences to boost your cred, why should it be different in anything else you write?
My reply had nothing to do with me (self-absorbed, HA! that is rich!), but tells a lot about you the way you reacted when called out on the fakeness of it all. All I did was call out your incorrect information you were using to boost yourself up, which was all fake.

I'm glad you're entertained. You know, I also can't remember what I had for lunch this day 20 years ago. Isn't that amazing?
Literally supporting a brain dead argument doesn't look good on you, but you do you.
Its also possible you recall prior toxicity just as poorly. Rose tinted specs are very common amongst gamers, theres something I've dubbed the "CoD cycle" where the current title is garbage and unbalanced and the worst CoD ever, until the next one launches whereupon it becomes amazing, brilliantly balanced and contender for pinnacle of the franchise.
When my experience differs so vastly from yours, its kinda difficult to not see you as a walking stereotype. Loosen up a little!

Oh yep. I've been "exposed". How will I go on in life having no "gaming cred" on a forum about a child's cartoon pirate game? Oh my dreams are destroyed. 😑🙄
And you wonder why a lot of people wouldn't get along with you.....
This post is going a little off course.
The so called "toxicity" mentioned in game, ( whether intensional or otherwise ) is itself being represented on the forum as a bit of a slanging match.
It's no longer a discussion.. it's something else. I suggest.. deal with it elsewhere, or develop manners & respect for your fellow human-beings.
It costs nothing... just thought.
Maybe time to lock down? @deckhands @RareEmployee@piratecraggy Agreed. I replied to this thread hoping to get some ideas from the community on what people thought about this potential exploit so that we can judge future ambiguous cases fairly, and even provided a framework to define an exploit and why shores of gold may or may not fit that definition. That went nowhere very fast lol. I vote to lock.
