  • They had 2 years of catering to casual play. That's not a bad thing but it doesn't mean there isn't a place for a grind as well.

The best thing they have added commendation wise since emissaries got released imo.

  • Its not crazy but the fact that they don't always count as completions is imo

  • wow that is crazy. I don't really like it anyway, it looks like a chainsaw mixed with a sword.

  • @madfrito99 100 completions isn't that bad. Considering to get legend year one you had to do 93 Athena voyages.

That was to get to Athena's Fortune rank 10. (Guardian of Athena's Fortune) Not to become a PL. :)

  • 50 would have been way better…especially for such a ugly sword

  • @madfrito99 100 might be extreme but these are meant to be here for a long time. They fortunately do not take very long. Its about 90 hours of game play while making money, renown, reputation.

  • This isn't time-limited content... so no need to grind! Take your time... enjoy the adventure!

  • @aerotsune OH lol right. In my mind same grind lol.

  • This it the first really grindy commendation in over a year? Always is a bit of an overstatement especially since most of the last year of content has been for casual players.

And if you think the sword is ugly, maybe don’t grind for it?

  • @themadlad94
I thought it looked familiar, that's very interesting

  • This isn’t as terrible as it seems. I have yet to do this voyage in a crew but word is a well put together crew can potentially knock this out in ~30 minutes. That would equal about 50 hours of play time. Compared to the thousand+ hours most of us have, it’s nothing.

  • Done 17 LotV's so for, 15 of them on a duo sloop.

I think 100 is a really fair grind.
I'd also rather have a bigger grind than being able to complete all of these commendations in a single week.

  • @brunokuz i have done 30 lol its just boring at this point

for all we know we might not see athena content for another couple of years.

No reason to do 30 in a week unless you enjoy it.

Things to get done contribute to longevity. That's why hunter's call has helped so many look forward to something over time.

No reason to do any more than you enjoy, eventually it'll get done just like everything else.

  • For what you get it is a little excessive since the sword is pretty bad.

But it's fine as it is.

I must admit though, Rare does not balance commendations at all. They are rarely just right and are either way to high or way to low.

  • anybody else thing this is just insane? this is where rare always misses the mark; making commendations too ridiculous

Keeps the player coming back. Completions.
    Insane? Good. Ridiculous? Perfect.

Rare missed the mark? I think they did the best thing. If you don’t wanna do the work, don’t.

  • Eh, not really. The sword looks okay. I know I’m not grinding it, though. Or anything.

War Thunder has my grinding priority… somehow

    please help
    I can’t stop

  • its no worse than many other achievements/commendations in the game i can think of many others that require more time to complete. there is very little actual content in SoT so hides the fact by making you do the same thing over and over again

  • @greatfailure82 there are crazy amount of content in Sea of Thieves? If you had said that when the game launched I would’ve agreed with you. Now though? Hard disagree.

  • i think you could all the content in SoT ignoring tall tales in under 10 hours easily. that to me is not alot. even adding in tall tales your adding another 10-15 hours.

  • If you do it with a full galley you get 4x completions for each time rn

Nope, we had an update yesterday, that fixed this afaik

No, just perfect, finally we get again something that's not finished in the first 2 weeks...but if you finish it in that time, I'd say, your own fault

Everytime the same, people come in here and cry, they have nothing to do, or nothing to work for...then when something like this comes into the game people cry, it's too much to do...

  • @ssolutionss That was only for the completions as a Grade V Athena. It didnt count for the Veil Seeker commendation.

  • @schwammlgott if you think having to play the same voyage 100 times is ok…then you really dont care what rare does lol 50 would have been perfect…all others are 50

    Because you know me...you don’t!
Do 2 of them per week and you are done in a year...that's just perfect...
We have a commendation to open 100 ancient vaults*...why not complain about this then?

But why do I even respond to you? I almost see just complaints and crying from you

Edit: *there is even a sail to unlock for that

  • @madfrito99 we have commendations for completing 250 voyages from each of the base game voyages and a commendation for doing 100 vaults.

So no, you’re incorrect. And some more positivity wouldn’t kill you.

  • @madfrito99
I know it's a personal thing, but that doesn't sound that bad. If you can, do one quest a day. It'll make it less mentally daunting in the long run, trust me. I did the same for the "Seeker of Ancient Vaults" commendation. You got this!

  • I’m glad they made a long commendation like this that cannot be completed in a day!

These are here to stay and I want to be incentivized to do this new voyage for a long time to come! I like jumping between voyage types just finished my DR cargo and now am doing animals, LoTV, vaults, and oos fleets. Having a variety of options left is awesome I just wish there were rewards locked behind the other long commendations!

  • SOT struggles with "hard" vs "tedious"

    It's always about completing things 10, 50, 100, 240+ times.

Making things tedious does not mean it's hard...it just means it's tedious.

I would have fully supported a much lower number IF they made the voyage conversely more challenging.

  • @wallyscag1817 this game is/was planned around a 10 year life. These quests are going to be here for awhile. Take your time.

While Rare does want streaming to provide content, they more want commendations/achievements to take along a long time.

My plan is to knock out 10 quests a week. Should finish in season 7

  • They have done this in the past , i remember when i was fishing for 250 fish or something , of course the fun of fishing dropped in a way that i didn't fish in months ...This , however , is a much more fun adventure which i would have no problem with of doing . firstly , and most importantly ,it's not time limited and may even stay in the game and the adventure itself is no bad at all...You see , thanks to a great Helmsman /woman , tactician /Captain ,i've been able to finish these adventures without losing a ship , as a mainly repairing Pirate ,this adventure has also pushed me to my limits but also improved my routine between repairing and bailing...i even dare to say that this adventure has improved my repairing skills or routine...So i don't complain one bit and that sword ? Well, you can engrave my name on it because one day ,it will be mine.

  • 100 isn't anything really. 50-60hrs of gameplay, wouldn't classify that as anything hard really.

If anything 240 arena wins or 500 skellie-ship kills is insane even if I enjoyed doing them!
