I didn't elaborate on this idea very well, so I'm going to throw it in here and let the community discuss whether it's viable or not. If so, just wait for Rare to hear.
I could be wrong, but from what I understand the reason Quest Boards were "abandoned" was the lack of incentive. Almost no one burys anything, as there is no incentive to do so. Just as almost no one puts maps on Quest Boards, as there is even less incentive. Why make a Fort of Fortune to give everything to others without getting anything in return?
The idea is simple, make ledgers exist for some tasks.
- For each buried treasure you would earn points equivalent to the gold that was buried that would enter a ranking. But this ranking would only be counted with the map placed on the Quest Board.
- For each treasure found you would also enter a ranking. But this only works if the treasure is found using a map on the Quest Board, if it is stolen from you it doesn't count.
- For each treasure you found, a ranking as well, both with Quest Board map or stolen. The idea is a bonus for stolen maps, it would encourage theft, which for me is the basis of the game.
At the end of each season, like Emissary Ledgers, those at the top receive items, one for those who buried the most, one for those who left their treasures to be found, and one for those who found the most.
Of course, it's a very simple idea, it definitely needs to be better elaborated, and it must have a lot of flaws, but maybe it's something that if well thought out can help save the Quest Board system. With this I believe that it would increase the search for maps, both on the quest board and stealing from other players, and of course, also increase the number of players who bury their treasures.
Many players don't play for gold anymore, so I think this way would also help less fortunate players get their dream gold as well.
