Questions about Quest board and buried treasure

  • When burying treasure and leaving maps on the quest board what are the mechanics around how many people can benefit from the maps.

Is it a one time thing with only one crew on a server being able to take a map or can every crew take it. will the game spawn my map in multiple servers for people to take generating copies of what I buried for then. Then once the treasure gets taken does my map disappear from the system or will it be regenerated if necessary.

A lot of the information I've been able to find only goes into how to bury treasure, post your map, and how to take maps from the quest board, nothing concrete on how the system manages and distributes your maps.

So was wondering if anyone knew.

    question
  • The map is linked to the server only. When a crew takes it, it belongs to them only so the map is removed from the quest board. Once dug up that map is finished. Other crews could dig up the treasure though if they just happened to find the items by accident or steal the map off you. If the map is not used and the server ends it is lost.

  • You get rep if they take your map, even if they don't dig it up. Just less.

Thanks that covered everything I was curious about, what triggers a server to end usually, is it just when they are empty long enough or do servers get closed and players migrated to save processing power during quieter periods.

  • @solus-corvus usually when there's just one ship left on the server it'll merge ending the old server.

So does that create a disincentive to leave big hoards for people because their is a risk that the server might end before someone comes to try and dig it up

  • @solus-corvus it does. That's why you hardly see anyone posting anything to the quest boards. People might start burying and posting again in S6 when they're trying to boost the renown again.

Nice, I didn't realise they rewarded that part of it as well
