Rainy Season in the Sea of Thieves?

  • Hey, in the last two session I played over the last 4 days there were a minimum of 3 storms occurring within the server I was on. I have never seen SO many storms. Does anyone else feel like they have increased the amount of storms existing on a server at one time?
It was so bad during one session that 75 percent of the time I played it was raining. I do not recall it ever being like that. Just curious if it is just me.

  • 1 storm and there is 1 perma-storm up at the top of the map for the tall tale fortress that was added only semi recently

Sometimes a storm is in your area and it just lingers and annoys you for long amounts of time but it's just 1 and it's always moving around a server

As @wolfmanbush mentioned, there's only one storm on the map at a time. Do you remember those older screensavers with the logo that ricocheted off your screen's border? Looked like this:

The storm behaves like that, although it stays out of the Devil's Roar. If you're on an island near the edge of the map, you may get hit by the storm more than once as it rebounds off the map's edge.

EDIT: this might not be as accurate as I thought it was. https://www.merfolkslullaby.com/map?latitude=18.617077533548084&longitude=-64.41728416003001&zoom=12.675786220178319&realm=sea-of-thieves&tab=weather

  • Interesting, I will keep an eye on that. But there were definitely multiple storms and I have seen two storms on a map rather often. I recently saw one west of me and another one north of me. And you can tell by the lightning. It is quite possible that the third storm was one of the two changing course. But there was no question there was two simultaneous.

    Thanks!

Likewise; that's interesting! I wonder if those extra storms were because someone was doing a tall-tale? I'm less familiar with the Pirate's Life tall tales, but I recall there were several encounters in the open world where a localized storm occurred as part of that tall tale.

  • @limbicfanatic

Aaaaaaand now I can't unsea that.

Was also going to find a Ducktales reference to Monsopies but I'm way too far into the duck web 🕸😅

  • Some people tracked the storm over several months. And found it did have a pattern. https://www.merfolkslullaby.com/map?latitude=18.635138398979635&longitude=-64.4567392381694&zoom=12.675786220178319&realm=sea-of-thieves&tab=weather

Maybe you saw just FotD fog...don't know...but as been said there is only 1 storm on the map and that one is on every server on the same location/route...
The storm in the north, at Coral Castle, is just a visual one...it doesn't fill your ship with water, it doesn't affect your wheel, no lightnings that hit you...

Whoa- that's cool! It invalidates how I thought the storm behaved, but if it's supported by hard data, I'll need to update my own mental model.
