The Man o' war

  • So...this post is about a small idea wich i wanna talk about. Its about a bigger ship in Sea of thieves. My reasoning for a bigger ship is that when we hop on with more than 4 friends its a bit sad and uncomofratble when we need to leave someone behind cause of the 4 people crew limitation. So i have na idea from a real life reference. Its the big ship called Man o' war. In my opinion it should be not too much bigger than the galion cus it will be unbalanced. The idea is to make a ship wich is bigger than the galion with more crew (5-6), but not too big so its not unbalanced.
It will be a great gamechanger and im looking forward to seeing that in the game!

  • outside of resource limitations and balance this idea is very damned if you do and damned if you don't

galleons are the most rare and the most rare to be run efficiently by a capable crew. Yeah some people use them with their buddies and it works fine but a lot of the time it's just a big ole open crew mess that is a nightmare to get people to help operate.

and on the other hand the player limitations are a heartbreaker scenario for some. People lose a lot of connections because people are splitting up to separate crews. It only takes a short amount of time before people kinda lose touch because of scheduling and capacity limitations

I don't see the stars all aligning to really fully ever get out of this pickle people just gotta do the best they can with what they got

  • If they ever do add in larger ships for larger crews, I think they need to add proximity chat into the crews so people don't talk over each other all the time. Four people isn't that bad but 6+ players and you'll have multiple conversations going on at once. This could make the megaphone useful on islands and maybe have it where all crew members hear the bell of the ship.

  • @mitaka2007 Ahoy me matey!

    Here’s Rare’s stance on bigger ships :)

  • @WolfManbush
Yeah I didn't often have a problem with conflicting schedules until A Pirate's Life... Now every time I try to play it's a scheduling nightmare trying to figure out how it all will fit... We're not required to complete the tall tales 5 times but I definitely will just by trying to play with everyone.
It can be so exhausting to get everything together because we all want to do the same thing, then one person has to cancel because that's how life works, and now we can't do the tale because that one person's gone.
Now I'm done with the tales with 80% of my close friends... but there's still that 20% to think about.

I'd like a Man O' War but it would be quite a thing to balance... realistically it's going to be hard to get a well-oiled group of 6, especially since the max crew has been 4 for 3 years... and we can talk manueverability all we want, It's still going to be hard to avoid if the MoW crew wants the same world event as you...

  • "That doesn’t mean Rare will never introduce an option for players to start the game with a fleet, or a six-person ship. But it’ll take a lot of work on the part of Rare, and there are no updates on the horizon. Right now, players will have to get used to either playing with three of their buds, or chasing down ships on the horizon to create their own fleet." - Polygon

SO, TECHNICALLY, Rare thinks that server hopping and alliance server creating is of MORE WORTH, because they're not wanting to put the work into ship-size changes into the game.

We've gotten our update of content, and it doesn't matter how much work it is to implement a new ship. What matters is the desire of the players for a whole crew. - Yes, a galleon nowadays is rare'^'? (because the people who want to play it are all gone now). However, remember that Rare wanted to build the Galleon game first! It was first about the big bad ships doing battle for the few treasures they could steal.

When they made the sloop manageable to play for solos, the game was about "how good can a solo player be?" - And then the game became, "How sneaky can the sloop crew tuck?" - And then the game became, "How insanely loaded with treasure and the skulls of their enemies can the brigantine be?"
The vision and path toward a BIG ship was clouded, muddied, and then spat upon for reasons of "balance, irl scheduling, and lack of interest." And I'm really disappointed.

< In effect: You don't hear how awesome the galleon is, or how much treasure the collect. Because the content creators and streamers don't play on that ship nearly enough. Which is a DARN SHAME!! Imagine a bunch of Twitch Partners just... sailing the galleon with three people because they're not min-maxing and saying how good the galleon is to enjoy. - Would probably see a new ship or an increase to crew capacities much faster.

  • Man if I had a dollar for every Man O War thread on this forum over the last few years.

Cue the conversation around balancing servers, etc.

  • @hijack-hayes I figured there would be a pinned thread by now stating
Please do not create topics about the following threads as they have already been discussed and beaten like a dead horse
    Man'o'war
    Hit Reg complaining
    Arctic Zone
    Update the Arena
    PvE servers
    Fix Daggertooth
    New Content (fixed)
    Buying cargo crates (fixed)
etc.. so people stop posting. I genuinely like this board and some of the great ideas on here but every week these topics get brought up like it's a new idea, lol

  • @awsmstaccntname You got them all except something about someone saying the game is dying, literally every single week.

  • @awsmstaccntname
I hardly see any topics started about Daggertooth though :).

  • @mitaka2007 conversation is always going to come back to balancing, net code, online player limits etc.

All valid points but I must admit it’s painful that after all these years we haven’t got a bigger ship yet. Honestly I won’t get your hopes up either.

People have been begging for this since launch, and rare undoubtedly know that it would be beneficial to the game in its own ways. But playing with lots of friends isn’t really a priority for them. Maybe in the long distant future but really doubtful.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love a bigger ship. Half my friends only left the game because of the mess it causes trying to coordinate 10+people into a few ships or deciding who misses out.

For the time being so what you can to create an alliance between 2+ ships and get friends on. Not ideal but it’s the closest you’ll get to having fun with friends beyond just having a max of 3 of them.
