Fort keys

  • Very simple concept say I sink someone with a fort of fortune key but they have had it for a while and either just had it or were running what ever their reason may be and I grab the key and it doesn’t say where’s it’s from then I have to go fort to fort looking for where it’s at. So I was thinking why not add onto the key where the fort is at like a vault key. So it could be “Stronghold key of Skull keep” etc. small but quite useful in certain situations

  • I don't really see the point.

If you forget which fort you were at look at your map table to see where you were. If you've been chasing someone for that long and the map trail has disappeared just think back to which fort you were at. They're all pretty different.

The fort of fortune also only spawns on large forts so that should help narrow it down.

  • I don't have much of an interest in it being added personally but if it were to get addressed why not make it a compass like a vault or tall tale? I think that would be a cool way to handle it

  • @faos-ernie

Mark the fort on your map if you know there's going to be a battle for the key!

  • For those misunderstanding OP: They are saying the situation is the ship with the fort key was sunk randomly no where near the fort. The OP may not have even been in the server when the fort cloud was up in this scenario. They are just asking to be able to determine which fort a key came from with no prior knowledge, much like you can with gold hoarders vault keys.

  • @aribalam sagte in Fort keys:

There is something like a small fort??? 🤔 Anyway, it can spawn on any fort (not sure about the devils roar fort) so there are 8 possible locations

  • @schwammlgott It doesn't spawn on Shark Fin Camp, Sailor's Knot Stronghold, Molten Sands Fortress or Lost Gold Fort in my experience! Not yet at least. If it's anything like the ooooooolden days, I bet it's just like how the original forts only spawned at 3 forts... something to do with the Skelly AI not being good at navigating things... probably the fatty Ashen Lords not knowing how to navigate the mountain on Lost Gold and such...

  • @klutchxking518 patch notes from the 2nd latest update say something else: https://www.seaofthieves.com/de/release-notes/2.1.1

  • @klutchxking518 **New Forts of Fortune!

A wider range of Forts can now arise as fabled Forts of Fortune. Shark Fin Camp, Sailor’s Knot Stronghold, Lost Gold Fort and Kraken Watchtower have joined the locations capable of housing this dangerous encounter.**

  • @faos-ernie Interesting idea, niche, but interesting. Not sure I see a negative impact to it either.

My immediate concern is how (I believe) normal fort keys technically work at any fort, so you could beat a fort, take the key, and use it at a later fort. Whilst FoF don't exactly spawn regularly, it's something that needs to be considered.

The other point, which I'm not too sure about, is what happens when the loot eventually despawns?

  • There's no reason not to do this just for that scenario. I think it'd be kind of cool though that maybe if you steal it from some one that it could spawn a voyage of clues to figure it out much like the merchant manifest voyage which would be fun for the crew to do since they're now looking for treasure. If you know where it was then just go to it but if not then maybe 1-2 clues to figure it out. It's an idea that's a bit out there and super scenario specific but it'd be fun.
