Open crew - Greybeard

Just started for me tonight. USA Midwest. Unbelievable they cant figure out what is causing this and fix it. I am probably done playing game for now as a key feature (open Crew) does not work. Where can I get a refund rare?

Yup super bummed out, new fav game, sunk the hook on me aaaaaand greybeard error after playing np for like a week

The game finally broke completely. At least before you could play a full arena match before you got Greybearded. Now you can’t even join a lobby

Thanks, I understand that will work to have other people join your crew. Many of us join open crew when we don't have friends playing and want to hop into the action potentially - in fact this is the situation anytime i use open crew. When I join a game open crew I'm hoping to be put on a ship already at sea doing something, not a ship docked at an outpost.........not being able to join open crew and jump a few times from game to game to find a situation i might enjoy is really taking a lot of the fun away - at least for me. I hope a solution is found soon.

I just signed in yesterday and am getting the GREYBEARD error (Server matchmaking problem) on 'Open Crew' and 'Arena'. I've not had this error before. I tried it today and still get the same error. It is surprising how much I use the join 'random crew feature'. Like others I can join a 'closed crew' and invite people, but that is a chore and takes the fun out of it, not to mention the time involved to find someone. I've had game since Beta times and not had this, like I mentioned before, but if it carries on like others are experiencing i, that would be really a rubbish. I have not changed any network setting or any routers.

Been having the same issue for the last three days.

I get the trick for joining adventure but I don’t understand why I can’t join arena with a closed crew. The game requires I join with a teammate. This makes no sense as I’m 90% of the time by myself in arena anyways. So for me, I can’t play the game anymore 😩

@justifiedrogue If you go to closed crew, You can press ESC and Enter at the same time and you will be able to glitch into a lobby yolo

I get the Greybeard error on the PC but not the Xbox. I have the game from Game Pass. On the PC I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Game. I first seen this error 10/23/2020 night. The last time I played was 10/17/2020 and did not have this error.

This issue has been known since at least March of this year. It has been affecting some people at least that long. Since the problem seems to be server specific it seems to affect people in clumps - a certain server starts having the issue and once if affects you, it affects you forever (or at least until there is a fix). This issue is also completely unacceptable. It's been over 6 months since the issue started for some and still there is no fix? If you put in a help desk you get an almost immediate reply stating the team is 'aware of the issue and is working on fixing it' and your ticket is closed with a status of resolved. Really? I understand this is not affecting everyone and I'm not sure how many players it affects, but a fix needs to be found and implemented, or an option for a complete refund of the game be offered to those affected. The impact this error has on the enjoyment of the game warrants it - in my opinion.

So I've resubbed to Gamepass specifically to play some Sea of Thieves and it seems I won't be prolonging my subscription since I started getting the Greybeard error whenever I want to play in an Open Crew. Solo slooping has its merits, but gets stale rather fast. From what I'm reading some people are affected since half a year ago, which means chances for a fix are slim at best. Great job there.

Starting a Closed crew then switching the crew type to Open once you are in will allow your crew to fill up in the mean time.

Have they tried rebooting the servers? :)

The obvious problem with that solution is the cycle time between sessions. You create a closed crew, then wait for people to join in, get a griefer or just someone, who refuses to participate, so you go to a new session, gather all the resources again, get another griefer... and so on.

Also the more people get the error, the longer it'll take to fill your crew, as we'll all just be waiting in closed/open sessions waiting for people to join.

This is a ridiculous game breaking impediment. I have game pass, but purchased the game outright because I was hooked after playing it once and wanted to show Rare some love since the Bad Fur Days.
I've not had the game for 2 months yet, but have had this error for over 1 month.

Offering hacks as solutions to this is embarrassing... almost to the same degree is the length of time this same error has been ongoing.

If Rare can't figure this out, then they need to open the list of servers up and let us select an open one manually. Perhaps list open games instead and obfuscate the server information to keep from loading them.

Either that, or we can start calling the game Seas of Thief.

Same issue here. I still can't play after 1 week. Any solution?
