Ferry of the Damned Improvments/Suggestions

  • My friends and I were chilling on the Ferry of the Damned and one of them noticed the 'Hallower MCMLXXX' easter egg/secret, and I thought that it would be cool for a number of things to be added to the game:

    1. Stealing the Ferry

    The cause of this could be a random event, or could be determined by if the player dies while using the steering wheel of their crew's ship. The idea is that the Ferryman is unlocking the chains on the cannons and Capstan of the Ferry, and the player can use them all to steal the ferry.

    1. Being able to steal the lantern from the Well of Fates

    The cause of this is by pressing the 'secondary use' key/button with your lantern on the Well of Fates (in the same fashion you would take a Flame of Fate) without having a cause of death to get a Flame of Fate. This would unlock the lantern in game and an achievement.

  • We already have ghost cosmetics to look like the Ferry - just earn and use those.

    wait what we do? what about the other one where you steal the Ferry?

  • So, I'd have to ask:

    1. To what end? What does stealing the Ferry do? Why would we care to do this?

    2. What are we doing with people who need to respawn while the Ferry has been stolen? The Ferry is mostly a respawn lobby, how will adding gameplay mechanics here impact that function?

    3. How does this interact with existing functions of the Ferry, such as the Tall Tale started there that involves the Ferryman? What happens if a player wants to start this when someone has stolen the Ferry?

    And this may well just be the tip of the proverbial iceberg as it pertains to concerns with trying to do what you suggest. I don't think this would work, personally, and think there would be much more reasonable ways to approach doing something in the Sea of the Damned beyond just respawning.

    To my knowledge, nobody has ever stolen the Ferry. The etching by the door simply commemorates the pirate who died the most during alpha testing. I imagine he must've been a pretty terrible pirate; either that, or he really liked to use the Ferry as a vacation get-away.

    1. grants an achievement and is just a cool random encounter
    2. just have them respawn on the original Ferry and make the stolen one and the player that stole it invisible to everyone other than the player that stole it

    and to respond to your last paragraph: there is something you can do in the Sea of the Damned beyond respawning: changing weapons in the armoury, grabbing a Flame of Fate, voting on the Tall Tale and talking to the Ferryman

  • @mr-mc-gamer663 I dig it. I would even go a little further

    1. Have Pirate Legends pay a hefty sum to unlock this as a world event. The skies go dark, The Ferry of the Damned pops up on the main map, and the Pirate Legend now has an hour to kill as many players as possible.
    2. Any time other players die, they wind up on the resurrected Ferry of the Damned, where they can choose to respawn as normal, or fight alongside the Ferry of the Damned's growing crew of undead players. It plays like a floating game of Blob Tag.
    3. Same as the above. They either join in the fun or continue on their Tall Tale as normal. Whatever floats their boat.
