How long does it take to ban for hacking?

  • Hello team,

So I've just finished playing Arena and played against a team who where using Aimbot 100%, so I reported and the other ships did too, but I've noticed aimbotting has become a massive problem within SoT right now, but how long does it take to get rid of these waste of human space players?

It is ruining the game and I've come across a few players in the adventure mode too doing this, so I googled and it seems there are a few aimbots around... Yet no bans on these or anticheat update...

Dont be silly as everyone on these forums will tell you cheating on pc is 0.00000000000000001% of the population. All jokes aside the only fix for this is opt out and play on xbox. Take it from someone with 100% completion.

I am a PC player, so I cannot out of PC haha. So kind of a different situation here.

The cheating is becoming frustrating and unenjoyable now.

Tell me about it, I cant play in the crossplay anymore. Its ignored by Rare and the community though they will just tell you to get better at the game.

Yeah which is massively drepressing and off putting. Rare and Microsoft need to act on this big time before it ruins the game anymore because with the Steam release, it's going to flood the game with PC Players and then A WHOLE LOAD of complaints as we know the Steam community and being vocal!

  • Some players cannot accept defeat whatsoever, so they resort to hacks. It's sad. I don't call hacks much, but when it's there, you can feel it. I don't know computer stuff, but couldn't Sea of Thieves have a sort of file check on startup, that checks to see if your local game files match the actual ones? Idk.

  • @klutchxking518 - Same if you are a good player than 100% I acknowledge and would clap, but I know I am a above average... (Taking a sloop and sinking 2 galleons and a brig solo in one match, that's where that analogy comes from)

I am unsure how it checks and bans people but it "seems" they employ bug fixes to stop things but anticheat no acknowledgment and it needs to be changed by aimbotters.. A simple Google shows loads, even free ones!

  • @captain-taben lol because you know the numbers? Get out of here and shut the door after you.

  • @menphuess

It's really not that hard to sink other ships in this game. The skill level of most players isnt what you think it is. The chances of you running into multiple aim bots is very low. Now you could have been playing the same crew in multiple matches or even possibly ran into the same crew in multiple days. The lobby for PC players isnt very large, chances of running into the same crew is very high as its happened to me multiple times. I'm on Xbox but play with 2 PC friends and we do sometimes run into the same crews.

Please understand that just because the other player is hitting a shot you think is impossible doesnt mean they are hacking. Hit boxes and hit registrations in this game is wonky as hell. Shots I for sure know i missed end up killing a player and shots I get indicators on miss.

Record a video and send it. Rare and Microsoft will look into the game files and see if it's been changed and the players will be banned. @Captain-Taben you just bring that prejudice everywhere you go dont you? Xbox cheats too but you'll only beleive that PC cheats

Forget it, mate, you don't get to be a hugely popular game by banning players. It's been an issue Rare and the team have given LOADS of lip service to, but that's aboutit.

  • Knowing how the Steam involvement is going to be and how the reviews and the vocal voice it have. Im going to bet that the steam community is going to be the general voice of PC players and might get something ( In hopes) done much faster. But to the fact with hackers on about and also that SoT Doesnt have anti hack such as VAC that steam does. I say its going to get worse in the long run. But then again because of the crossplay mess happened it still be silent seas for some.

  • Would be nice if you could actually report the bloody people who does it as well.

Xbox won't even take the report.

  • @menphuess

It's an age old problem for this and no doubt many other games.

Thankfully, I opt out on my Xbox and none of this concerns me anymore.

Think about getting a Series X later in the year and joining in playing online games without the scourge of cheaters that certain platforms bring with them.

You're one of those robot people that wouldnt understand sarcasm if it hit you in the face arnt you.

    Windows 10 in the flesh

The thing is the it wasnt, its your pointless pure hatred to pc players, and your ability to deny simple facts and numbers.
Get real the amount of hackers was so tiny and long gone

  • @captain-taben

I play on xbox and dont own a PC yet I was planning on getting one at the end of the year for black friday prices but with the Scarlett coming out I changed my mind. Does it not exist in your world that players on Xbox disagree with other players who cry hacks for everything? Xbox players cheat but you claim they never do or that it's simply not possible to cheat on Xbox. I like how Xbox players claim they never cheat but sit there and claim all PC players cheat. PC players don't disagree that it happens, they disagree with you claiming it happens all the time and it doesn't. The chances to repeatedly run into hackers is extremely low but according to the way you complain and whine it happens everytime you played in a cross play server which is not true. You have an outright hatred for PC players which not every Xbox player feels like you do. Some of us are actual grown ups. Sorry if your little bubble got popped but you need to put the pitch girl and torches down because PC players aren't the devil's. Players like you that blame PC everytime you lose and cry hacks are the problem

  • @menphuess

Hey broski. Sorry to say but the likelihood of you running into that many hackers that frequently is actually really low. Could it happen once in a blue moon? Maybe. You might be able to run into 2 different hackers within the same day but the chances are extremely low.

Rare and Microsoft take cheating very seriously. I've been accused of hacking countless times and solely just for being on PC. If I'm playing on any of my friends servers I am playing with 250 ping which makes me teleport all over the place sometimes. I get called out for hacking. I have sometimes shot players that have clearly dodged my shot and ended up dying anyways and again still called hacker.

You have to understand that there are players that have played games for a VERY long time. The term gamer gets thrown around a lot but there are gamers then there are GAMERS. Someone who played counter strike for like 15 years picks up this game is probably going to be very good with the sniper rifle or any gun for that matter since its always accurate when zoomed in. Same thing with players who have played CoD for years and years and have perfected the quick scope. This game is nothing but quick scoping.

You might think you are "above" average but what are you basing that knowledge on? Your own accounts? What is average to you? We all have our own level for what average is and yours might not be as high as you think it is.

Like others have suggested. Set your system to record while in the background. It will always keep the last "5/10/15/30" minutes of game play recorded and when you push the "record that" button, you'll be able to saved past (however long you set) video.

Then you go over the video. Get their names. Send a report and Rare will handle it.

In the 2 years I've played this game I have only reported 5 players. All of them have been banned. Rare does takes these things seriously but you have to understand that not everyone is hacking. They could just be really good or you could just be really bad or even having an off day, hell they could be having a really good day and playing in the zone.

SIDE NOTE I don't understand this term ever when players use it. "If they were 100% better than me I would accept my loss." What if thats all that it was. They were 100% better than you. I don't know if you've ever been to a professional setting or have seen professionals play.

There aren't just 3 or 4 people in the world that play with god like reflexes. There are thousands of players like that. Again there are players that have made it their lives to play and get better at games. There are a LOT of them.

    @Captain-Taben

Oh wow, your actually back. Thought you got perma'd. Well good seeing you again. Hopefully you'll be a little more careful but I doubt it.

PC players hack - Xbox players hack. PC Players don't disagree that there are hackers, we disagree with that there are hackers all over the place like the plague. It is true for some games that have little to know anti-cheat software but those are usually indie games or free to play games. Microsoft and Rare wouldn't let hackers go rampant in their game.

Just a heads up also, xbox players have been hacking in the opt out servers. Its funny because when a person dies they immediately think they just got out played because you know, its xbox. Its funny how biased the belief over hacking is. If its an xbox player then they died to a good player, if its PC then they have to be hacking. I could buy an xbox and hack all day long but no one would report me because they would just accept that I wasn't hacking. Its hilarious lol.

  • @captain-taben

Broski your ship at sea counter is at 2. Only time it gets reset is when you get banned :).

  • The only way to tell a true hacker is if you are repeatedly wallbanged from the water/ocean multiple times.

The very best in this game hit most of their shots, and excel at shooting through the hull at predictable locations... like the banana barrels. Where you are probably running to heal.

The only real hacker I ever encountered one time wallbanged me while I ate 5-8 bananas in a row, bunnyhopping around the hull of my own ship, from nowhere on my ship. When he realized I was not going to stop eating bananas, his partner fired extra shots at the same time to ensure I died, which came through the side of my own hull and finished me off. This was before the days of wallbanging even existed.

Let’s just keep to the pirate code of conduct and respect all, until we’re on the sea then bets and untrust are slightly off, even alliances :)

To subject, being a PC player and a simple Google you see hacks online and I’ve run into a far few in adventure but MOSTLY in arena I’ve had the hackers with aimbot.

I do report and use the game capture feature to snip and send to Rare but never hear much after a few emails, which is why I wondered how long does it take and do they actually ban people :)

Anti cheat needs an update and I massively agree with when it’s on Steam, it will explode the vocal side as PC gamer is the biggest platform AND Steam is the biggest so yeah. Fingers crossed

  • @menphuess not trying to sound nasty or anything, but all you have is a "feeling" that its hacking at best.

Ultimately rare are the ones that have the tools to detect it, it would also be counter intuitive for them to publicly disclose details or metrics on the process.

Although you definitely have done the right thing by collating clips of situations you "feel" is hacking to send rare for them to investigate and ultimately determine.

  • Came across a player today who was taking people our with one shot from at least 10-15 feet away using a blunder.

  • @Deckhands

    Necro

  • to get anyone banned you need proof. Without it saying someone cheated is the equivalent of a witch hunt.

  • @menphuess

Quickly before this thread gets locked.

So I used to play a game back in the day that had a support team that would e-mail the player that status of their reports. They would let you know what the decision was when they closed your ticket. Player in question was found to be hacking, outcome Banned. Player in question was found to be harassing, outcome warning. Stuff like that.

I got to admit this was very nice to know. Few players I reported got banned for hacking or for throwing the match or game. Others were found to be innocent of the support team found no fault and I let it go. However, after a year or more they stopped reporting on the outcome of the tickets.

Through the grape vine it was found out that a lot of players would be enraged with the reports that came back as innocent or no fault found. The players would report for whatever reason; harassment, hacking, throwing matchs, and etc. When they got replies that no faults were found or that the player in question was found innocent through investigation they reporter would go crazy, they would flood the support tickets with crying and whining, with demands and threats.

Basically, whiny and childish players who feel as if they have been victimized will always and forever hold a grudge and demand some kind of retribution and if they don't receive they will yell, cry, and whine in the support teams ear until they get it.

If they don't get a response then all they can do is report and hope its handled.

Is it better this way for players who are mature and act like grown ups?? No its not, but like all things in life, the things that would be awesome are taken away because of the very loud and whiny few.
