Solo Brigantine for pvp?

  • I love the brigantine but i am still conflicted.

Some days i swear the brigantine is the ultimate ‘do it all’ solo ship.
Other times its the sloop for the simplicity.

However i have noticed pros and cons but i wouldnt mind some input and reassurance from the community.

Firstly, the brigantine is fastest. You can escape all the ships with relative ease. Even other brigantines crewed up ive outrun by just keeping within cross winds, running to the end of the map and going the other way until they get bored, get krackened or simply get killed by my attempts to board or keg.

Because of the speed ive encountered more skelly ships and can take on even fleets solo. Although it sinks faster, if i do a full right or left lock i dont get hit as much as the skelly ship kinda struggles to keep cannons on you for a while. So for PVE i love it too.

    Here is where im conflicted....

    Pvp.

Now in all fairness me going up against any other ship solo and the crew is skilled, it will be a challenge and possibility for me to sink.

Therefore for pvp in a brigantine, i prefer to use her as a “base of operations” and actually do all my pvp from my rowboat catching them unawares.

Ive stolen athenas and tons of loot from even 4 man galleons by rowing up with a handful of kegs, letting loose and killing off the stragglers.

When i have nothing to lose however, i find i can chase down my enemy sloops, ram them and hop on with a keg. Kill the stragglers and take their loot on their rowboat or simply drop my own rowboat before i board and swim back with the loot.

For me solo, its just a really effective way and the playstyle makes the brigantine the best ship for a sneaky sneaky or nothing to lose hard hitting attack. Keeping a storage crate on top deck with all your cannon balls makes reloading so easy too. Plus you can take them to the next ship if you sink and have rowboat.

Now the sloop on the other hand is definitely the best for pvp as a solo in the more traditional exchanging fire sense, i would feel comfortable fighting another player ship more in a sloop than anything else solo, However if its a skilled crew and im solo, well again its probably best that i do a more stealthy approach anyways because if they know what they are doing its high risk anyways.

Because of this, i feel that although i am a disadvantage exchanging fire with enemy player ships, it makes up for it in its ability to easily escape, travel as high speeds to catch unaware players or simply use the speed as a kind of way to board the ships, getting away with rowboats.

So in a way the best pvp ship for me is well...the rowboat!

But for these reasons the brigantine is my favourite ship.
On paper the sloop wins hands down but its strange, i always get more success and have more fun and definitely get into more trouble in a brigantine.

As for PVE, i can do everything solo in the brigantine as i can in the sloop, except kill the kracken but i can escape. So really its a no brainer to do it all but faster in the brig.

Most importantly, the brigantine has an actual bed too!

    Whats your thoughts on this?
Do you reakon there is anything else i could try or expand upon?
Theres no right or wrong answers really but i think people have different experiences and those little snippets can all make us better in our own games too.

    Please feel free to share.
    Thanks for listening.

  • @daringclarky I started the game solo-brigging, then I went to sloop, and every once in a while I would swap to brig/sloop. Now that I am more experienced I definitely really like brig when I have 2 more people to play with but otherwise I do sloop as it is much more efficient. My only problem with the brig other than how long it takes to do things (which isn't a problem with a 3 man crew) is that it is a glass cannon.

So brig and sloop are my favourite ships, but I have to say that sloop is my favourite overall as it is just much better, as you can solo more effectively, maneuver more effectively, and when you have duo you can just fill all of sloops roles.

  • @jofjjay Actually started slooping again after reading your comment.

I think the sloop is my favourite again but being used to that fast brigantine speed and going from fast to medium sloop speed is tough!
But i have a lot more time to do other things whilst sailing instead of juggling lots of sailing jobs on the go.

Thanks for the insight. Its really helped.

Im yet to take a fleet solo on a sloop.
Ive done it on a brigantine solo but i’ll see how i fare in the sloop.
I imagine much easier than the brigantine but we’ll see 😎
