Get Rid of fire in arena!
@ToastyRar
What steps are you and your crew taking to deal with fire? I'm not asking that to be difficult, I'm asking because many players who play primarily in Adventure mode consider fire to be a minor factor in deciding ship battles- the reasons being that it takes a long time to damage your ship and requires a good deal of time (or carelessness) for it to damage you enough to kill you.Here are some strategies that my crew and I use to deal with fire- hopefully you'll be able to apply some of these to Arena mode:
-
Fire can only damage your ship if that specific location is on fire. This means that if you leave a small amount of water in your ship, fire won't be able to start on the lower deck.
-
Water that's used to put out fires evaporates. This means that you can speed up your bailing if you dump it on any fire you encounter on your way to the deck. This also serves the dual purpose of fighting fire on your ship.
-
Boarders love to throw firebombs as they approach your ship (especially the top of the ladder) to create opportunities for them to board. As mentioned above, fire causes slow damage, whereas boarders can quickly cause havoc. Ignore the fire until you've dealt with the boarder.
-
If your ship has a lot of fire all over it, consider leaving a small hole or two in your bottom deck to allow a (small) stream of water into your ship. This water will immediately extinguish your lowest deck, and you can refill your bucket faster than you could with the water barrel (don't need to pump more water in). Prioritize putting out fires that block your path from the bottom deck to the top deck (don't want to continuously set yourself ablaze), then prioritize putting out your masts (don't want to lose a mast).
-
Finally, water has splash radius (pun intended)- aim your water bucket into the center of a blaze and you'll put out more than one 'unit' of fire. Also, as @Fllw3rb0y mentioned, you can 'alt fire' to douse yourself with your bucket (simultaneously puts out any fire you're standing in).
Hope this helps!

@limbicfanatic im not new to the game i have common sense its other people that don't i want to fight but people use fire to vanquish their boat to not have to deal with pvp. fire spreads super quick when all 4 enemies rain hell fire on their own boat and im not going to go through the trouble of getting a buckets of water while 1v4ing a ship. what im saying is fire just ruins pvp or just gets rid of it as a whole.
@ajm123 how is throwing a bomb in a random place on a bout skill? and i didn't ask your rank in arena. if you are trying to say that means that your opinion should stick out or that i should think that you have skill or something just don't legendary sea dog takes no skill its just playing games and pve'ing by getting chests and triumphant sea dog is just more wins and games played while equipping a specific type of cosmetics on. what im saying is arena doesn't take that much skill to play so don't go waving around your commendations thinking it means anything.
@fllw3rb0y yeah i know but i don't want to do that to peoples own boats after they fire bomb there own ship to avoid actual combat.
@pithyrumble i only die to fires started by people who can't pvp so they spam fire bombs to avoid pvp. or i die from abot that thinks their good because they can swim over to the bout im on killing people and the bot just fire bots the whole ship to a point where i can't even stay on the boat. and last and my least favorite is when me and my friends get a couple boats close to eachother to kill and they start throwing fire in every direction possible. it takes 0 skill to use and arena would have more hand to hand combat without it, which it needs after all the only objective of arena is dig up chest and turn them in the fastest.
@toastyrar
Wait, people are setting fire to their own ship in arena? Just to preemptively deter boarders?? Wow- I'll admit, I wasn't expecting that. Does it work? I'm really curious to get more details about this tactic.@limbicfanatic it isn't that good of a strat is if a lot of people are on your ship but if its just one person maybe even 2 just throwing fire bombs in places like ammo box stairs and food barrel which are the spots where most people need to get to it causes too much damage that it needs to be nerfed and eventually the fire can spread every where on the boat and it doesn't take that long so the boarders are helpless. but it still takes no skill to do and its OP so it really needs to be removed still.

Sounds like they are being smart and denying things you need from their boat so they have the upper hand, not "running from PvP" and by the sounds of it it's working, maybe instead of whining you should adapt, bring a water bucket when you board or I don't know use the one specially built to out out fires that is conveniently on their ship, there are many ways to counter it.
@fllw3rb0y because its a op and very easy way for people with no skill can get good players of the ship.
@toastyrar i think its just stupid as well a good crew would just punch holes in the hull while the boarder is distracting the crew

Out played lol. Tbh, if they're willing to go scorched earth to stop you maybe you should try ship to ship combat instead of boarding?
Let their fires put a couple holes below deck. Hit em with a ballast ball. Bloop bloop bloop...
You want to change the game since someone less skilled in hand to hand is outplaying you.
Keep the fires in arena.
@toastyrar so they use ingame tools to compensate theyr skill in PvP...means they outplayed you, like @PithyRumble said...
While the fire mechanic is not OP, it's just a dumb un-needed and mostly annoying unrealistic componentto the game that was added by rare more than likely to say "See were doing things".
Should fire be made far more rare because it's dumb like the cursed cannon balls? Yup!
Should all food be made equal to the OG bananas? Yup!
Should the entire balance of combat mechanics be reverted 1 year? Yup!
Unfortunately my friend, Rare is unlikely to do anything wise regarding this because they have like a lot of development teams lost their compass heading and are now lost at sea.
I like the fire. It's a cool feature, but it might have been better to just add it as a new type of cannoball... we got the grenades so it's fine okay. The issue, in the Arena especially, is the volume. Somebody goes to swim with fish and from the bottom of the ocean set your whole ship ablaze... that's dumb.
We can carry 5 fire bombs and when we use all of them (not to mention multiple crew members using them) it's just too much fire imo. Perhaps decreasing it to 3, 2 or even just 1 would make the game more strategic and less spammy in the Arena.

can eat up all of your foodI agree, especially in sloop arena.
@simplelyricc yes ill bring 1 bucket of water for 20 fire bombs that will do the trick. but it doesn't work for them it will take about the whole game for the food to run out.
@pithyrumble thats the problem Rare is lowering the skill gap every update they make it easier for noobs to kill a skilled player. i don't know why you are talking about cursed cannon balls when this is arena im talking about. its also not really getting out played when they all still rage quit before the fire actually kills me.
@toastyrar
I like these kind of elements that make every fight a bit different and unexpected.To be fair, I would throw an extra firebomb to someone with a username like yours 😁.
So you're complaining because there's an equalizer, but you're still getting wins because your opponents are quitting. Sounds like the problem is you?
Cursed Balls aren't in arena? Wouldn't know. Don't touch it. My Sea Dogs rank stays proudly at 0.
