I'm sick and tired of constantly getting insta killed by pc players the second they see me and I know loads of people who feel the same way, I think the arena filter for choosing who to play with should be for adventure as well because it straight up isnt fair
GAME IS UNFAIR
Fortunately for you, you don't need to be tired of being killed by PC players, because XBox players kill you just as (if not more) often! Now stop trying to enforce segregation.
@ultmateragnarok If cross play is such a good idea, why doesnt Ubisoft do it for their game, R6 Siege? I mean, if MK is so even to a controller, all games should be doing it...
No... When someone can get behind me faster than I can turn because of joystick sensitivity RESTRICTIONS compared to the free range motion and ACCURACY of being able to spin with the FLICK OF A WRIST, is a CLEAR AND OBVIOUS ADVANTAGE that controller players will NEVER have.
Yes, a M&K is superior to a controller with precision aiming. However, R6 does not have other aspects to it, it's all aiming and reaction times. SoT has another major PvP aspect - the ships. A controller is better suited to ship controls than a M&K, which balances it out. Note that everyone dies to a full blunderbuss shot at the top of a ladder (if you hit them, at least) and the cutlass doesn't favor either platform. Just stick to where you have the advantage, and use resources you have available to you - cursed cannonballs, gunpowder barrels (which you don't need to be on board to do damage with, and them shooting at you isn't exactly detrimental to your plan), fire bombs, even just a barrage of normal cannonballs. Crossplay works in SoT because the game was built around balancing it as a priority. SoT is not R6, it's not even the same genre, as R6 is a FPS while SoT is a SWAG, or a Shared World Adventure Game, but specifically one built around negating and countering the aiming advantages of a M&K. That's why you don't have critical hit zones on players. As for spinning, yes, you don't spin quite in the same way, but if you gradually increase your sensitivity throughout a day, or a few, you can rival a mouse's turning abilities. It's arguably easier to turn around, since you don't have to do that snap back to a previous position so many M&K users tend to do.
Yes, as a controller user you have a disadvantage in gunplay. You have advantages elsewhere, use them.I'm getting convinced these are all the same one or two people, but you can never be sure. Might just be some of those players the game is apparently so quickly hemorrhaging, immediately magnetizing to the most heated topic and unknowingly supporting it in their own way, despite it not really making a difference anyways. @Deckhands , dropping anchor would be about right for this one. Another onto the pile, we'll breach the waterline at this rate.
I can understand the frustration. Yes, pc players have an inherent advantage over xbox players. The loading times and frame rates are indisputable. The developer has spent so much time trying to fix the weapon meta, when there was really nothing wrong with it... the problem has always been mouse vs joystick.
Now, that being said, there is still a great game here. Yeah, you might get messed with, but that doesnt have to ruin your while experience. Think of it as 'giving others an equally good experience' kind of thing. Without the threat of getting wrecked, this game would sink. And without the thrill of wrecking someone, there would be no fear of getting wrecked. When you lose, you are contributing to the economy of the game, as salty as it can be. So, are you really losing? I say not really. Try to duck and dive, run and fight when you have to.
Since when have frame rates had influence over this level of play (excluding the PC only problem of not being able to run double-digit frames, which does make it unplayable), and XBoxes unable to use SSDs? Enlighten me.
At least you know that PvP is essential. That's something a lot of people here could use.
@ultmateragnarok frame rates and enemy tracking go hand in hand. When someone can move fast enough to elude the frame, they become lost. Happens a lot on the ol' xbox. My One X does not have a ssd. The best that has ever been offered was the elite, with a hybrid. It seems you are somewhat off put by my comment, do you think pc and consoles are on level playing fields!? Lol, how adorable.
Anyone can use mouse and keyboard on console so people will still be able to flick shots.
What is going to end up happening is people on OG Xbox Ones are going to complain that people are PC when reality they have done some of the following.
- Installed an Internal or External SSD
- Have an Xbox One X which has SATA III which causes faster load times
- Have an Elite Controller (More buttons to bind to things)
- Simply having re-bound their controller so the more useful pvp options are not stuck in the item wheel
- Raised the sensitivity of their controllers so they can turn more quickly
- Are using Mouse/Keyboard on their console
You will still have people complain that things aren't on a level playing field and they never will be because hardware differences exist. People have faster internet, people have more powerful pcs. Both of which have made gaming more difficult on for the lower end of people for years and yet this is the first time we have a console that has more powerful/faster hardware playing the same game.
This is not that type of case, where tracking of that level is required, as it is normally quite easy to tell where something must've gone (unless extreme lag or teleportation are factors), and even then, you have a chance to fight back normally when you lose who you're fighting. As for you not having an SSD, well, how about the PC players who don't, either? They're external, anyone can get them, but not everyone has. Should they get to opt out of playing against those with high-powered gaming computers? Or what about the ones which perform worse than XBoxes do, should they be able to opt out of having to deal with XBox players? Should players on XBox ones be able to opt out against those with the XBox one X, or the one S, or the upcoming Scarlett line? Do you think all consoles and PCs are duplicates with the same advantages and disadvantages? Of course PCs and consoles aren't on level playing fields with each other, they've never been on level playing fields with themselves.
@ultmateragnarok gosh, I'm sorry. You seem upset. I didn't say anything about an opt out, but that seems to be your argument. I dont want a fight, bud. I was just pointing out facts. On average, a decent pc is much more able to handle this game than an xbox. I mean, the one x is 500 bucks. There is no way I can build a pc with 4k for 500 bucks. Of course it won't compare to a decent modern pc. But, the one x is what I use to relax. You should try relaxing sometime, its great!
Yes, I do relax. I sail the seas and enjoy the time on them, the sights, meeting new people, that kind of thing. Sure, people attack. Sometimes they're on PC, sometimes XBox, sometimes a mixed crew. Sometimes when they attack, I'll lose, other times I win. Never really a correlation between the two, there are very skilled XBox players and horrible PC players. But what with you pointing out hardware inaccuracies between console and PC, and only them, in a thread like this, the point always turns to some form of direct segregation of the two because people can't cope with loss sometimes. The XBox is an affordable, pre-built, branded PC, marketed to a younger demographic due to the lower relative prices compared to PCs. It's not really much difference, if you don't know what you're doing, you'll lose to someone who does, though everyone takes and deals damage the same. With a mix like this, the frame rates don't really matter at that level, since the people who can squeeze an advantage out of that have the ability to do so if they want to. It won't stop a bullet hitting them or a player escaping them, they'll just see it slightly faster.
@galactic-geek asking narrow and explicit scenario questions isn't a sign of emotional distress? I guess I'll take a note then. Thanks friend!
@ultmateragnarok slightly faster is an advantage. You're assuming that the op is low skilled. Very rude, but probably accurate. I was just stating facts, which you have agreed with. My philosophy you also agreed with, so why are you still spinning words?
Nearly without fail this will turn to an argument about that topic, so at this point it's not to much detriment to just start with it. There are disadvantages to XBox, and there are disadvantages built in for PCs as well (or, more accurately, controller and M&K, respectively, since that's the major point), however they're not all the same and never will be, so true equality among them just won't happen. Most 'advantages' provide little difference and make no change to the outcomes, regardless. As for the 'short novels', they just have quite some detail. Think of it as essentially a canned argument for this general topic, due to the sheer amount of nearly identical posts this topic has.
Here is a little life tips
10% is what happen to you in this life.
90% is how you react/handle it.Im not saying that they wasn't pc player that killed an sunk you, but again how do you know? should I just trust you word without hearing or a least see it from the other side.
An if you just follow a little bit on the forum, there is gonna be an update in jan-feb. where you can choose x-box only.
How are those gonna react, when you no longer can blame pc players for your own short comings.@ultmateragnarok "I equated this argument to opt out, I didn't want to waste time. There are disadvantages to both platforms, however they're not the same and never will be. Most 'advantages' provide little difference. As for the 'short novels', they dont have to have so many words. Think of it as a canned argument for this general topic, due to popularity of the topic."
There ya go, bud. So you can uncan it quicker in the future. I think we are saying similar things, but you misunderstood my initial point.
It would seem that I did, yes. Glad we could agree on the overall point, despite the miscommunication in between.

I'm 100% sure you're right. This post (https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/105186/so-sick-of-toxic-players/10) and this post (https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/105177/so-sick-of-other-players/17) were both made by 1 day old accounts. This seems to be the same here.
@rowdy-reid What about the people who play on laptops, or 10 year old computers.
The issues with everything you said, is that it's based on an assumption.
An assumption that everyone has £1000 computers.
And if anyone sounds like they are "emotionally distressed" it's you trying to displace your feelings onto him, but nice try
@hashashin777 fortnite, rocket league, minecraft, call of duty. All have cross play and they are the best selling games. Please tell me how these guys are wrong.
@greencamillion1 the only good reaction to this game would be to write the sever engine by myself, modify the client with my own server IP and play alone forever because i'm done with this community that picks every possible phrase just to defend a bad design, the guy up here even talks about minecraft and rocket league and a f2p game to compare to a sail game that needs to be paid to play also, genius
New skill acquired today: stare of death! Could you please tell me how to use it?
I really wonder how my xbox crew manages to board and take over ships, while I am guarding ours.
The servers and game do not care about your device:
- Pirates are identical
- Swords are identical
- Blunderbusses are identical
- Flintlocks are identical
- Eye of Reaches are identical
- Ships are identical
- Cannons are identical
- Munitions are identical
- Hit registration is identical
The choice to use a controller or mouse and keyboard is given to everyone. The ability to up your sensitivity is so there to make you have quicker turn speeds.
The ability to upgrade your system is available to all, buy the newer model of xbox, buy an external SSD, buy an elite controller, buy a gaming rig. Next year the next generation is coming out that blows all other xbox setups out of the water if you want to be on xbox. Internet speeds can be upgraded to improve ping.
Money buys you smoother gameplay, welcome to the real world and online multiplayer environment.
In the end, you can avoid CQC brawls if you are not amazing at them. In the end you can sail away. In the end you can use your ship in battle where the advantages are not there or even in favor of controller. Nothing is more important than how you respond, how you play and what type of pirate you want to be. Adapt, learn and #BeMorePirate

you can deactivate crossplay in cod,btw cod works with bots...if u not good u are sometimes with bots and maybe some new players on a server;).rocket league isnt a shooter and its just heavy when you have 3 or 4 good pc players against one.

Just to clear this up, the elite controller doesn't have extra buttons...it simply moves A/B/X/Y to the paddles. You don't get four extra buttons, unfortunately. As for M&KB on an Xbox, I can tell you haven't tried it.....it's like playing with your mouse in mud, it's terrible. No decent player is going to choose that option.
As for others defending pc and claiming there is no advantage, come on guys. I've just recently built a new computer and have played Xbox since release. This game runs terrible on Xbox when in battle. The game freezes, frames drop to single digits and load times are horrible because Microsoft decided to use 5400 rpm hdd's, which are extremely slow. The game literally stops and catches up while in battle, most of the time. The stutter is really bad on Xbox. And as I said above, M&KB is a joke on console.
Do I experience any of this when I play on my pc? Nope, smooth as silk and load times are fine and I'm not even using an ssd at the moment. I'm using a 7200 rpm hdd. Now, if rare gave Xbox users the option to change graphic settings this might help things but they won't, they don't think Xbox players know anything about this stuff so we don't get options, unfortunately.
I've played this game for hundreds of hours on Xbox and maybe 50 on pc. The game runs better on pc and mouse is just easier to aim with. These are facts and they can't be debated. Are there bad pcs out there? Yea sure, but that's a minority and at least those people can mess around with settings to make the game playable. I'm slowly moving in the direction of pc gaming. Why would I do that? Because it's a better experience. Let's be honest, it just is.
@bkj-seven you brand new PC runs better than a xbox? Really, what is the price difference between the two if compared now?
Nobody is stating money doesn't matter and better hardware doesn't perform better. The xbox scarlett will have double the FPS, internal SSD and 4x the power. You know they will be added to the opt out... what is the difference?
If I use a controller on a PC why should I not be given the same options as a xbox player on a controller?
Welcome to the multiplayer experience where yes people use different devices and where better more expensive hardware gives you smoother gameplay, which is why many PC gamers choose the modular open system of PCs over closed systems that they cannot upgrade and they spend more money in comparison because of it. This xbox only tag added to the option is a ruse to keep xbox players an illusion of fair play while it is not; it is just to promote sales of the scarlett, emporium and make money off of them.
We were promised a Crossplay title without Asterix, a true play anywhere live title and options be given to both ends where PC or xbox wouldn't be a limiting factor. Now they are following the money and adding xbox only servers, limiting PC players and telling those on controllers that the input differences only apply to xbox users... which is so false that everyone should be able to spot the hypocrisy of the choice. This is a money driven business decision that has nothing to do with fair play.
ssd/loading times are the only advantage pc players have, and it's been from before the Anniversary Update. I used to be able to load back in with a few holes and save my sloop. Now if I have one and die, I know I'm going to respawn on an island not my ship. Even I can counter a Kb/M player, but stock xb1 players have a loading disadvantage.
The framerates arguments are garbage.
