The prices

  • What????? You are going to have to actually work and put in some time? HOW DARE THEY!!

  • Man, if voyages cost hundreds just to start at higher tiers, I imagine they'll pay out a lot better than lower tiers ;p I don't think that 140k is as far away as some think.

  • During the final beta me and my crew logged in probably a good 18 hours or more. With the addition of the accolades for the factions they also showed you much you've earned. I noticed we had scored around 100k in gold during the final beta, that was with the lower level factions. With the increase of the factions plus legendary voyages, I imagine we will be getting a lot more than "1000 gold per 30 minutes". So the prices seem fair to me,its far better than buying out the entire cosmetic shop in a single day.

  • @dragonic26 No I did think before i spoke, I know that I would love to have that in the game as im planning on spending thousands of hours so something to gain over a few months for a awesome reward would be perfect, Don't presume we are all dirty casuals.

  • @samoclarkey I'm not a casual player ^^ ! More the kind to be the ultra hardcore gamer for some games. And I'm also a game developer.
When you put content and objectives in games like this, you should have multiple levels of skins, but for all kind of players, not only for hardcore gamers. 70,000 G and 140,000 G it's too much. It would be okay if there was maybe something else for ship customisation around 10,000 ~ 20,000 G.

All we need to know is how many time an average player can buy a full basic ship skin set for 210,000 G now !

  • I don't understand the problem I play with my friends today about 2h and we have done 20k golds without problems. When you reach legendary status the options are more too. No one know how much cosmetics and quests you can take after reach legendary.

Just play and have fun with your friends

  • The ship and clothing customization prices really should be tiered, with "damaged"/cheap looking stuff being cheap enough to afford early and prices getting higher for nicer stuff so you can have a sense of reward and progression no matter what you do.

I'm just glad I am able to put a great outfit together with a combination of my Black Dog, Mercenary and Ferryman's items and have my pirate look great from start (well, after roughly two hours of character creation due to the random system, that is, haha).

  • The prices are absolutely fine. That the ship parts would be much more expensiv then clothing was to be expected and of course I couldn't and it shouldn't be as cheap as during the beta. It' a big achievement to change the look of your ship and looking different as the other ships(Of course this is only possible if the add more options, in two weeks everyone will have the ship parts and look the same again)
After I went through the IPG Pain yesterday me and my mate did two mission for the merchants and got to over 5000g and we haven't even played for an hour. So yes it will probably take longer than a day to get all parts but that's what I expect to keep me entertained and gives me a goal. If it would be cheap and achievable during a day it wouldn't be special.
I don't know if you guys played world of warcraft in the early days, but then it was hard work to collect enough money to afford a horse. It was so satisfying to finally purchase the same horse as almost everyone else ;-).

  • @derkgoesbezerko but I thought this game is not about grinding...these prices makes items unobtainable for a working adult. It's crazy high, just like in free to play games. I guess that's why Rare said it will take people months to become pirate legends. Months of grinding is not what I hoped SoT would be.

  • Its well obtainable for a working adult. Higher voyages give higher rewards. You probably wont get it as early as others but you will still get it. And the upside of having the money later is that there are maybe more options to choose from by then. And out of my experience the cosmetics in a game are getting more awesome by time. I caught myself more then once thinking when a new skin was released in another game. I caught myself more than once thinking "If I hadn't I puchased this piece of junk back in the days I could have bought this awesome thing right now"

  • @laserblikk ship customization isn’t designed for new players. As you get higher ranks loot will be worth more.

  • @derkgoesbezerko It's enough that I'm working 12 hours a day to survive, why should I do the same in the game to achieve anything? Trust me, I like to work hard in games to get stuff that will make me unique (I've played tons of MMO's) but this is just out of this world. Not only there are very few cosmetics (so no, you won't be unique) but they're unobtainable for a working adult such as myself. I feel like it's battlefront all over again. Prices on par with free-to-play games, with the difference that free to play games have way more items to chose from. No wonder Rare said that best players will need months to become pirate legends. Months of grinding the same 3 quests to get a damn bucket texture or whatever.

  • @hudson-rl With a raid I got close to 15.000 gold, that means it only takes 4 or 5 to get the piece you want.

  • dude its so expensive cause they dont want that everyboy reach everything after an weekend :D

  • @wturok I too also got 15k from the raid. However, 4 or 5 times only applies if you’re successful and if you and your crew get all the treasure to yourself. It’ll most likely take longer. Plus the raid isn’t fun to me so I won’t be doing it that many times. Everyone is entitled to their opinion though.

  • @dragonic26

    So erhm...

I got each trading company at 18/18/16 as of today.

68.770 doubloons earned after a "honest day of work" (we're talking hours).
Well not quite honest, but y'know...

I think the prices are perfect. Just saying...

  • @laserblikk So you would rather not working towards something?

  • I swear if Rare made Battlefront 2, all y'all would be praising their loot boxes and progression system.

"Good, I WANT to grind for 500 hours to unlock Darth Vader"
"Good, I don't WANT to unlock Darth Vader in the first week"
"Good, grinding 500 hours to unlock Darth Vader will give me purpose in the game"

  • The prices are insanely overpriced for their average looks. If I'm paying 70-100k for a ship hull I want that thing to glow or be animated. That's just nuts.
