🔥 [SUGGESTION] Dread Ships Dominance – Epic PvE + Ship Unlock Event

  • 🏴‍☠️ THE CONCEPT

Introduce three cursed ships as PvE boss encounters:
    🔥 Burning Blade
    🏴‍☠️ Black Pearl
    🧟‍♂️ Flying Dutchman

Each has unique traits and abilities.
Defeating all of them allows you to unlock ONE of them permanently as your own galleon (cosmetic + skill).
These are special player ships with limited powers, unlocked via a dedicated event.

⚓ EVENT STRUCTURE: "TRIAD OF THE DREAD SHIPS"

Triggered via Guild voyage or Tall Tale.

    2 Game Modes:
    • ⚔️ Sequential Challenge – face each ship one by one
    • 💀 Total Challenge (Hardcore) – face all 3 at once

    🎁 REWARDS
    Sequential Challenge
    • Up to 10,000 gold + 50 doubloons
    • Cursed loot drops
    • Title: Master of the Cursed Sea
    • Unlock one cursed ship to use

    Total Challenge (Hardcore)
    • 25,000 gold + 100 doubloons
    • Unique ship emblem
    • Title: Sovereign of the Dread Triad
    • 1x Dread Token = 100 Ancient Coins (used in the Pirate Emporium)
    ➡ Max 1 per week / max 4 stackable

    🚢 UNLOCKABLE CURSED SHIPS

    🔥 Burning Blade
    • Ability: Frontal incendiary cannonball (same as current Flameheart version)

    🏴‍☠️ Black Pearl
    • Active: "Mist Veil" – fog cloud around ship for 30 seconds (6 min cooldown)
    • Passive: +15% turning speed
    • Bonus: Improved harpoon pull range
    • Uses the in-game cinematic model seen in Tall Tales

    🧟‍♂️ Flying Dutchman
    • Active: "Abyssal Breach" – submerge 10 sec, resurface with knockback + 5 sec roll effect on nearby ships
    • Passive: Permanent lanterns off (stealth)
    • Ignores rowboats/skiffs
    • Also uses in-game cinematic model

🪙 DREAD TOKENS → ANCIENT COINS

    • Earned only in Hardcore mode
    • 1 Token = 100 Ancient Coins
    • Max 4 held per crew
    • Redeemable for special cosmetic lines (ghost sails, pets, crew emotes)

    ⚖️ BALANCE

    • Only 1 cursed ship may be active per session
    • Ship base stats = normal galleon (HP, storage, crew)
    • All abilities have cooldowns
    • No pay-to-win, only a new path to earn Ancient Coins

  • Not meaning to beat down on your suggestion, but um... there are already Flying Dutchman and Black Pearl themed cosmetics in the Emporium lol.

Second, and the most important thing - there will be no ships with special powers, aside from those captured in the sandbox, like Burning Blade. Rare's policy is that everyone is equal at the start of their session. Having a special ship from the start is completely against that idea. So nope, unless I completely misunderstood what you're suggesting.

And regarding ancient coins - with ancient skeletons being a thing, you really think Rare would add an additional way for them to NOT earn money? Good luck is all I'm gonna say 😂

If only one can be active per session then how can we face all three at once???

  • One of the main points of the game is that everyone has equal opportunity. The only unlocks are cosmetics, no new abilities or anything. The PVP system is CAREFULLY balanced around this. Adding any of these sorts of power ups would change how the PVP system as a whole has to be balanced. These ships would inherently have advantages over any standard ship and would have to be balanced accordingly, like how the BB is galleon sized but moves slower than a sloop, but also has a sloop anchor. Anything that could be unlocked would provide a player with a distinct advantage over other players. Keep in mind how delicate this balance is: Rare once changed the shape of a sail because it was too overpowered for PVP and they determined that having a sail with an OP shape locked behind an 8 million gold price tag and PL was damaging to the gameplay and put people who weren't PL (2.68% of players are PL) and didn't have 8 million to spend on one cosmetic at enough of a disadvantage that they had to change it.

    How do we tell him?

  • Already lost me at the first paragraph.

I actually mentioned in the original post that there are two separate modes: one where you can face one at a time per session, and another (possibly rarer or special) where you can fight all three at once.

Totally understand that details can get missed sometimes, but I promise the idea already takes that into account.

Ahoy! I hear you loud and clear, mate — all solid points.

    Just to clarify:
    • I know the Emporium already offers Flying Dutchman and Black Pearl–inspired sets, but they’re more like fun replicas — nice, but far from perfect. My idea was to suggest unlockable, in-game variants that feel more polished and true to the original spirit.
    • No special powers — just visual or lore-driven effects, like the Burning Blade, with zero gameplay advantage.
    • As for Ancient Coins: I get that Rare needs to monetize, but small in-game rewards could actually boost player engagement and might even increase interest in the Emporium.

Just tossing some wind into the sails — who knows, maybe an idea or two catches the devs’ attention. Thanks for the discussion! 🏴‍☠️

Hey! I totally get the concerns about balance, and I’m absolutely fine with dropping the idea of power-ups.

That said, in my opinion, it could still be really cool to have events where you duel legendary ships (like the Flying Dutchman or Black Pearl) and maybe get to use that ship temporarily, similar to how the Burning Blade works.

I know there are already themed skins in the Emporium, but to me, it’s not quite the same — sailing an iconic ship with its unique shape and atmosphere would feel like a totally different experience, even if it’s purely cosmetic.

Just a thought I wanted to share, always with full respect for the game’s core philosophy. 🏴‍☠️

  • @bar00kablast
Fair enough — if the first paragraph was too much, then maybe this kind of suggestion just isn’t for you.

I write in full so people who are actually interested in the idea can follow it properly.

No hard feelings — just not every post is made for skim readers. 😉
