Sick of perfectly normal words being turned dirty and getting acronyms that have the letter A or F in them censored. Can we please grow up?
And I already know the reason "because someone could read the word butt and then go on a killing spree" or something like that. Well I can say anything on voice chat so what are you even thinking? Is it a british thing because you dont have a first ammendment?
Seriously...
Why does a game with open voice chat have a text chat filter?
@mith-bosevem Lol.
- There is no First Amendment protection for speech in a video game developed by a private company.
- It helps keep the Teen rating. Obviously, they can't address voice chat, so they do what they can.
Imagine a young child playing SoT for the 1st time. His parents are smart, loving, and responsible parents and have disabled voice chat features as part of his Xbox Live account, so he can't hear anyone and they can't hear him. However, he can still communicate with text chat - the parents enabled this feature because they want him to learn how to read and type (because apparently writing isn't really a thing anymore SIGH). Rare, wanting to promote a family-friendly game, and to stay inside the rating it was given despite being an online-only game, has taken steps to help this family's child from learning certain words that can be used negatively (such as curses and racial slurs) and that would otherwise turn this child from a young, impressionable mold of happiness into, well... A bloody pirate.
@mith-bosevem you have to realize that teens are supposed to be playing this game and there regulations to have that classification, which they have to follow.
Please grow up? Maybe you could do just that. This isn't a big deal and any adult understands what they are trying to accomplish, creating a more enjoyable experience for all their players.
@galactic-geek Why would these “responsible” parents allow their young child to play a game rated T for teen? You lost me there.
@galactic-geek Hypotheticals are made to be delved into. That’s why people begin them with words like, “Imagine...”
