@mith-bosevem you have to realize that teens are supposed to be playing this game and there regulations to have that classification, which they have to follow.

Please grow up? Maybe you could do just that. This isn't a big deal and any adult understands what they are trying to accomplish, creating a more enjoyable experience for all their players.

Imagine a young child playing SoT for the 1st time. His parents are smart, loving, and responsible parents and have disabled voice chat features as part of his Xbox Live account, so he can't hear anyone and they can't hear him. However, he can still communicate with text chat - the parents enabled this feature because they want him to learn how to read and type (because apparently writing isn't really a thing anymore SIGH). Rare, wanting to promote a family-friendly game, and to stay inside the rating it was given despite being an online-only game, has taken steps to help this family's child from learning certain words that can be used negatively (such as curses and racial slurs) and that would otherwise turn this child from a young, impressionable mold of happiness into, well... A bloody pirate.

I agree with you, the rating system is garbage. I mean the whole filter is so damn strict. Can’t even say the word “c-r-Acker” because of the way it may be used. But voice chat allows for all the range of words, so much for keeping it “PG”

where is the problem? the textchat is working for communication in game,a textchatfilter has absolutely nothing to do with a nanny or police state,.,.

I understand having a text filter may help with ratings and whatnot, but it's overzealous. Some perfectly normal names are even censored here and on the forum. Why hinder communication in a game based around communication?

1. There is no First Amendment protection for speech in a video game developed by a private company.
2. It helps keep the Teen rating. Obviously, they can't address voice chat, so they do what they can.

It's a sad reality when the world is either run by people who are afraid of everything and people who harm because of anything.
