What’s the Problem?

  • Isn’t this the most exciting point in the game? We knew for the most part what we were getting with the betas, stress tests, and full release but now we are finally at the point where literally anything could come next!

One day we will look back on the early days of SoT and think of how plain it was. Compared to what it will become. We’ve always been exited for potential SoT has.

But now we are spoiled! Have you ever seen a game push out updates and bug fixes as fast as Rare has this past month? They have outlined a boat load of updates FOR FREE. Giving us updates weekly. But people are already complaining that the first update is 7 days later than they expected.. spoiled.

To the people threatening to leave if Rare doesn’t push out updates faster.. relax. We’re all in this together and your hate mail clutters the process

  • @straw-hat-blake plus we have State of Decay 2 to look forwards to!

  • Agreed! This game is a ton of fun to just play, make your own content people! Use the "Looking for Group" feature on xbox, keep your eyes open when sailing around, have fun! If you don't have anyone to play with, feel free to add me and I'll help you out some. Just enjoy the game and don't complain about everything that could be a little better!

  • @straw-hat-blake the problem is that this game is the best of the best, we are addicted and we want more and more and more...

  • Totally agree.

The crying self-entitled masses need to learn some patience. Developing updates for a game like Sea of Thieves without bugs and issues is no easy feat when you've got such a small team.

  • Poorly thought out quest and progression design.

It's not about entitlement. It's about 60 bucks for a beautiful but poorly executed idea.

That's why people are upset mostly.

Had they focused on progression system that makes you feel like you're actually progressing in "someway" - people would have felt like they that although grindy - they were actually moving forward (there is a thread about different level looks ship looks versus leveling up the look of tools)

If missions were actually quests that took you deep into caves or clever riddles that actually had to be solved - you might lessen the mouse on a spinning wheel feeling...

Instead, you have a rudimentary quest system fit for a mobile game and almost no visual level progression. Also, they decided just to make stuff cost an ungodly amount. Would have been better to lock things behind levels but oops they designed with players making lots of gold and then what do you do with all the gold oops... that breaks that idea.

"Oops" is the name of the design of this game.

Anyway, you just added another pointless thread along with the rest. I just added another pointless response with the rest.

  • @endosku11 I wanted to give the pointless threads some variety. Why the hostility? Mobile game? Dude relax. You say there isn’t any form of progressions.. the factions are 3 but whatever. They could add more at any time. A campaign would be amazing. Is this compared to like fortnites awesome “progression” or any other game out there? The progression ladders are stacked to make you just pay for them anyways. You say the customizations are way too expensive and should be locked behind levels.. the best are locked behind levels.. but whatever. SoT is a different model of game meant to grow and reward the players that were there in its early days. You can be apart of the process. Or complain while they deliver on everything we ask for

  • Like I said pointless thread.

    I haven't complained.

My only requests over and over -have been let me see animals on people on islands from a distance.

All my other posts are explaining why people are upset with the game and why it's broken. There is no need to wave a flag saying how great a game is.... when it's not.

The only people that did their job on this game are the artists and whoever implemented the game effects.

Other than that - the game designer or whatever the title is - dropped the ball. There is no way around it.

I like the game but the potential momentum that the designers wasted at launch is sickening.

So pointless thread after pointless thread I'll keep responding with a pointless response.

Or just let em leave right? if they give up this early they are weak minded anyways so hey... bye bye your loss lol

  • It's poorly handled communication. That's it.

Can't only talk to the community about success and you cant hype them up and go silent the following week.

Mention the bumps in the road, mention the failures, and show some humility. The people that are here for genuine reasons will love that type of communication. It can only help in the long run.

  • Amen!

P.S to the people who are threatening to leave the game or have already stated that their time has ended with the game.. we all know that you’re still playing it ;)

As you bring up fortnite, the progression is the same as SOT, cosmetics. You have to pay real money or ingame money for them in fortnite, and soon will be exactly the same in SOT in their shop update. Neither are pay to win but however, fortnite is free. And arguably a much better, less buggy game.

  • @uvg-reign
Im glad you said its arguable. Because i feel like fartnite is a plaugue on mankind. A containment game for kids. The entire purpose of it is to milk youngsters for every penny their parents have

The more "weak minded" ???? People leave means ; sot, bye bye your loss.

  • @Straw-Hat-Blake yah i agree. i think back to my days playing ffxiv. It use to be good, then became amazing and added soooooooo much especially speaking specifically on cosmetics. In the beginning your class had one gear that was the best. Then they came out with loads more not to mention vanity and then adding dyes and special limited items.

I can see sot being this way. A year from now we will be like wow look at how far its come. And I dont say that meaning now it sucks. I love it as is. And I am excited to be on that journey that will take us through the years and grow with the game.

  • @reluctantdragon i really dont think that many people are leaving though. Their fanbase will keep growing assuming rare keeps making the right moves. They're doing quite alright in my opinion as far as listening and keeping up on these weekly updates.

  • @straw-hat-blake $60 early access game that wasnt touted as such with roughly imho $20 in it.

  • @straw-hat-blake you, I like you.

  • @vapor1080 your game.. is dying. You can argue against this as much as you want. This isnt ff14 and this game will not pull itself out of its freefall its experiencing. Simple understanding on gamer mentality and mannerisms... such as... moving to the next big thing when it comes out.. will tell you this.

This back and forth between the two sides is silly... people will move on.. the rest will follow... and then people wont come back because there wont be anyone to chill with. Its simple human nature 101.

Like i said, only game i have ever seen save thier bacon is ff14.. and they had the resources and the repuation to save.. to do so. Rare.. does not. Sad to say. But hey.. forums are fun reading reguardless so knock yourself out!

  • @straw-hat-blake I don't mean to sound cynical, but maybe from an xbox perspective these updates are fast. I have experienced many pc titles that push bug fixes significantly faster as well as faster on cosmetics. However, I am unsure if that is actually on Rare. I heard somewhere that Updates on console games have a monetary price. PLEASE correct me if I am wrong.

  • @straw-hat-blake %1000 agree. I don't know where people are getting their moon high expectations set from. I haven't played a service game thats put out any significant content before the three month mark. Most quality games patch maybe once or twice a month, even on the PC. Plus all the complaints of "early access" about this game are delusional, early access games are almost exclusively unplayable buggy garbage, this game is far far from that. You don't get to call it early access and beta just because it didn't have as much launch content as you dreamed it would have guys :)

  • "Have you ever seen a game push out updates and bug fixes as fast as Rare has this past month"

    Fortnite.

But quality over quantity is my motto. So I don't care if the update gets delayed, so long it doesn't ship like update 1.0.6, which was a mess.

  • @endosku11 ugh now see that response was actually pointless.. and inaccurate. You’ve complained.. a lot. “Poorly thought out progression and quests” etc. I obviously disagree and with all of the hate mail out there I wanted to give the pointless threads some variety on the subject. I fully expect a “poinless” response from you even though it will probably be a broken record of what you’ve already said. But you bore me so don’t expect any more of my time

  • @vapor1080 haha yea that’s the truth. I’ll take quality over quantity any day

  • @talonwren I’m used to $60 base pay for every game out there. or $80 or $100 for the “deluxe” “gold” edition.. people so easily forget. It’s been $60 all the way back to n64 games so idk what you’re complaining about

  • @talonwren dying? Just because people don’t play SoT all day everyday like the first month it came out doesn’t not mean it’s dying.. it’s being born. I’ll admit after I hit legend I slowed down a lot. But just one addition is enough to get me interested. After this summer we will have an accurate idea of what the future will look like. Right now it’s just hear say and opinions

  • @talonwren said in What’s the Problem?:

this game will not pull itself out of its freefall

    Free fallin

  • @straw-hat-blake On Point! Keep up the good work everyone at RARE. Super excited about the future of SoT.

  • No matter what they do it’s to late. Majority of players are are more than likely not to come back even for dlcs. It’s not a traditional mmo. No progression of competitiveness isn’t a big draw for alot of players. I’ll still keep an eye out for updates and new Reskinned skeletons to fight but I think expectations for future content is way to high for some.

  • @straw-hat-blake I admire your positive outlook, however, when you release a game with a triple A price tag attached ($60) one would expect it to:
    A) Have more content than what we saw in the beta
    B) Not have high amounts of bugs and glitches (flying ships, warping from the ship to 50 feet below the sea for no reason, OoS voyages not populating an island, etc)
    C) Not get disconnected from the server on voyages or having server issues.

These are just to start, not to mention the progression system seems like it could have implemented other ways to gain rep amongst other short sighted designs/decisions.

But these things happen in games.

And the devs fix their screw ups. As they should.

So now you’re applauding the devs for pumping out free updates to fix the unfinished release that cost $60? This is what they should be doing. This is what they HAVE to do in order to make right on releasing an unfinished game with such a high price tag. That’s like a waiter spilling food on you at a restaurant and then giving him special high praise for cleaning it up! It’s what the waiter needs to do in order to keep clientele happy and returning to the restaurant. The waiter screwed up and now has to make up for it. No special praise needed.

In the end, we all love this game, otherwise we wouldn’t be here posting on forums. I have confidence that the devs are working hard to make this game live up to its cost. I’m still here. I’m still playing everyday. I’m not complaining. Things will get fixed, but I don’t think they deserve a shout out for doing something they are supposed to be doing anyway.

  • @straw-hat-blake said in What’s the Problem?:
That's not complaining - that is just pointing out an issue.
I play the game daily since launch - and I've never come to the forum to "complain" about missions.

I do come to the forum and post on threads - saying I agree on some of the issues people are bringing up. And I do add suggestions what might make it better.

On another note - The last video update they posted does seem that RARE is getting the message. Hope that continues.

Exactly. And even if this was labeled as a traditional mmo. It would have been blown out of the water for its lack of entertaining quests.

And then theres the future updates... i think a lot of people forget how long it took for them to get alot of this game done. The little of it that there is. So i agree fully with you last statement too.
