New Ideas to make SOT more fun and more people to come back and keep playing?

  • [Mod edit] we all know SOT is slowly dying off, and really should be brought back to life.
Some things that could spark it back is listening to the community.
So I was thinking, maybe a great few ideas I was hoping to see in SOT -- I really would love to sea and I know many agree on is with volcanos... You know how If you are sailing around and that the volcano tends to hit your boat, sometimes it doesnt? But most times... haha you know it hits the boat, especially if you have a keg on top... They will full on shoot at your mast making sure its duty is to hit that mast down......... Please could you let us vote on it it can a in game poll if we could have it changed to just a full on random generated pathway of the volcano hitting places, instead of the boats... Because of this, we know many like to stay away from the devils roar region...
Another great idea, which I know some people get annoyed about is the server merging.. It randomly merges, could there be a possible time limit? - or something to warn itll happen soon? For this, theres been countless times where me and my crewmates died and tried going back to an area to grab a key we stashed without burrying, and it merged servers, where we lose the items.

My crew and I were a lvl 5 reaper galleon. We sailed over to the Fleet, and sunk another galleon doing it, completed the event, and took all the loot. Off on the horizon, we see the same galleon headed over to us. We laughed because we knew they were probaby mad at us. We sail east, because we see an emissary out in the Roar. We sink them, take their loot, while this galleon is almost here. I notice a volcano near them is going off, so I sail north planning on driving them into it. They fall for it--I mean, they also turn north to flank us, and head straight towards it (the active volcano was between us, we were out of it's range). We then anchor-turn and head south, which causes that galleon to have to do a U-turn.....around the active volcano. We were laughing so hard watching them get pummeled, de-masted, and set on fire everywhere, knowing they were already mad at us for sinking them. It didn't work out for them very well, since all they wanted was revenge and kept being outsmarted by us (we were just having fun).

You may not like the active volcanoes, but there are times where an enemy of my enemy is my friend, if you can think outside the box and use it to your advantage. Especially if you can have fun with it.

    This guy gets it.

When I'm being hunted I use the volcanoes to my advantage, especially if it's a day I'm solo slooping or in a sloop in general. Escaping into the Devil's Roar when I know I am at a severe disadvantage is one of the best things I can say about the game's map designing.

As for "how to make people come back to playing and make the game more fun" ... Tbh I've been curious what's been dwindling the game's numbers other than disinterest and I have a sneaking suspicion that it's because the overall social aspect of the game is decaying. In the early days of SOT, encounters with other crews was a lot more varied. Sure, you would have pirates sink you, but you also had the random wacky stowaway, alliances, betrayals, all kinds of things. Now, it feels as though everyone is too wary of each other, and that's pretty understandable as the "middle ground" of players is disappearing and leaving the full time regulars and occasional anxious newbie to fill the space. I know this isn't the "sea of friends" or whatever tagline people used to make fun of more social aspects of this game, but I think we'd benefit from events or quests that require partnership with other crews in the same vein glitterbeard does-- the tricky part here is such a thing would require enough payout to make it worth it even for veterans on the sea.

Diving had a huge effect on the player to player interaction, but I don't think diving is solely to blame here. Lately, the only friendly interactions I've had are with a handful of brand new sailors.

  • Game should gracefully die off imho.
Also idk how your ideas would convince players to come back to the game, Respectfully...
Those are QoL requests at best. Not updates that would convince someone to redownload the game to play.

**The Game and people who run it did so much damage ** in trust and back and forth things over the years it really doesn't deserve a 'revival' as much as I love the game and pain to say what I just said.
SoT is the only game where you get banned for PvP'ing too hard (Spawn camping).
Imagine being a new player not knowing the unwritten rule about that and being greeted with a ban, then, on top of that, being refused to know why exactly they got banned by support.
DO you think those players will stick along for the ride? No. And that is just ONE example out of the hundreds why players quit the game, not because the game is inherently bad, but because it's contradictory and ran by incompetent people.

The game will see a revival imho the moment it gets mentioned that the game will be closing soon, and just like Arena, you will have a lot of people coming back to pay off their final stay and reminiscence on the good old times.

Is it though...or we just doing the round about again.

Another great idea, which I know some people get annoyed about is the server merging..

when was the last time a server merge happen? For me...2 years at best. and I sit on servers for hours.

Oh they are aware what they did, and just play victim. (I didnt know spawn camping was bad) nobody said this...its a gaming rule in pvp. Unsporting.

DO you think those players will stick along for the ride? No.

Oh well. Maybe they need a reality check in, Punishment for the crime.

but because it's contradictory and ran by incompetent people.

They just listening to the 1% of players is all. Every update, QOL has always been to cater to those who...want things easier, faster, less grindy, less everything.
One update they bring in that wasnt for them, those same people get upset because it ruins "there gaming" but boosts everyone else. The group of players who, Login and play. The group who dont complain. Bunch of players who actually bought the game and not game pass it...

  • We need guild wars

I'm convinced you just don't want to admit to the facts of things. Everything from Twich/Youtube/Steam numbers point to that, yes.

People like you end of the day, actually do more harm to the game pretending everything is fine when it's not. I hope you realize that. But I know self reflection is hard for some.
RARE have recently admitted in their last 2 podcasts, that they failed multiple times. ''Missed the mark'' was mentioned 42 times, at one point, it's no longer missing the mark, it's as I said, being incompetent.
    And that's the truth.

when was the last time a server merge happen? For me...2 years at best. and I sit on servers for hours.

Why do you need to lie on almost every post you make?
You seriously trying to convince us that you only had one server merge in a 2 year span when your chronically on this game?
    Come on dude, do better.
You literally have no credibility at this point on these forumns.

Oh they are aware what they did, and just play victim. (I didnt know spawn camping was bad) nobody said this...its a gaming rule in pvp. Unsporting.

Being un-sportsman like is VERY different than a bannable offence in comparison, point is, you have to have had direct knowledge that spawn camping is not allowed in this game by someone in the community, or you risk getting a ban if you do it and didn't know about it, happens to players all the time through out the years. Nowhere in game does it say killing a player on repeat on their ships is bannable.
RARE Support decide at their own discretion if it merits a ban or not.
